Oktaviana","doi":"10.47080/jeltl.v6i1.2419","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.47080/jeltl.v6i1.2419","url":null,"abstract":"The background of the researcher to analyze students' ability in writing narrative texts by analyzing several aspects of writing skills in the form of content, organizational ideas, grammar, vocabulary and mechanical punctuation. The aims of the research are to find out suggestopedia method able to increase students’ writing of narrative text and to find out studensts’ interest using suggestopedia method. The method used in this research was classroom action research. The research procedure includes cycle I and cycle II using research instruments in the form of observations and tests. This research was conducted at SMAN 1 BINUANG class XI MIA 1. Minimum completeness criteria (KKM) value is 70. The results of research on student pre-test got the average score of 41 and cycle 1 got average score of 68 and have not reached KKM. Therefore, treatment was carried out to be able to increase the students score by doing learning used suggestopedia method in cycle 2 obtained average score of 79 has reached KKM. Then, the action hyphotesis could be said that the suggestopedia method improve students’ writing narrative text and make students interested in learning. This research aims to identify the different kinds of figurative language used in the lyrics of Stephen Sanchez’s songs. The theory from Leech (1981) was used to assess the meaning of figurative language, and the theory from Perrine & Arp (1991) was utilized to distinguish the different varieties of figurative language. The findings of this study demonstrated the use of seven figurative languages, including 12.5% of personification, 12.5% of simile, 12.5% of symbol, 25% of metaphor, and 37.5% of hyperbole in Stephen Sanchez’s songs. The objective of the research is to find out is there any significant of Puzzle Game towards student's vocabulary mastery at the eighth grade students of MTs Tanwirul Kutub Bayah. In this method, the researcher uses a quasi-experimental method with two groups the experimental class and the control class.The population of the research is all the eighth grade students of MTS Tanwirul Kutub Bayah which consisted of 2 classes, with a total of 66 with a sample of 33 students in class VIII A and class VIII B as many as 33 students. The instrument for collecting quantitative data was a pre-test and a post-test with a total of 25 questions. The Researcher calculated data by using SPSS 2.2. Based on the analysis using paired samples test, it can be concluded that t-count= -7.430 and signification value (p-value) = 0.000 < α = 0.05, so H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. In fact, there are many EFL students have some difficulties in reading comprehension. The objective of this study is to analyze the students’ difficulties in reading comprehension skills. Descriptive qualitative method is used in this study, and by using purposive sampling, 98 students of Basic Reading Class at English Education Program in University of Indraprasta PGRI were engaged. The data collected by administering the questionnaires, then it was analyzed to find out what kind of the difficulties faced by EFL students in reading comprehension. The questionnaires were administered in collecting the data, and it was analyzed descriptively to know what kind of reading comprehension difficulties faced by EFL students. According to the results, the most reading difficulty faced by the students are distinguishing between main ideas and supporting details, getting main idea between paragraphs, the topic of the texts from other culture, relating topic and background knowledge, understanding vocabulary and inferring the text. The researchers utilized a descriptive qualitative method as the data is not numerical but instead taken from the lyrics of the songs in the form of words and phrases. The object of the research is phrasal verbs in Coldplay’s Song Album A Head Full of Dream. There are eleven songs on the album: A Head Full of Dreams, Birds, Hymn of the Weekend, Everglow, Adventure of a lifetime, Fun, The Scientist, Army of One, Amazing Day, Yellow, and Up & Up. There are fifty-six phrasal verbs found in the album that are divided into three types; transitive separable, transitive inseparable, and intransitive inseparable. It is possible that Coldplay’s album A Head Full of Dreams is a useful material to improve vocabulary building on phrasal verb since there are numerous phrasal verbs. This can provide students with much-needed exposure to challenging aspects of the English language, such as phrasal verbs. This is especially true in the English as a Foreign Language context, where the majority of learners' exposure is limited to the teaching. The use of songs from Coldplay's album is also emerging as an innovative method of teaching phrasal verbs. However, Empirical researches discussing motivation toward learning English of Indonesian students studying abroad from different disciplines are uncommon. Employing Gardner's instrumental and integrative motivation, this research aims to examine the major motivational level toward Learning English of Indonesian undergraduate students who are studying at the University Utara Malaysia (UUM). 20 items of a questionnaire were administered to 89 students from different disciplines. This study reported that the students were highly motivated both in integrative and instrumental motivation. However, they had more integrative motivation than instrumental motivation. In terms of integrative motivation, students learned English because they believe that it can give them the chance to interact with a diverse range of individuals. The research question is whether Semantic Mapping strategies are effective in Reading of English for Foreign language Class. Forty-two eleventh grade of in SMK Bardan Wasalaman Batang was chosen as a subject and divided equally into two groups; one group is the experimental group and the other is the control group. There are several procedures carried out in data collection to answer research questions; first, a pre-test is given before the experiment is performed to ascertain whether there are no significant differences in English proficiency in the two subject groups of lesson. Subjects are required to complete a reading comprehension test consisting of forty-five multiple-choice tests within ninety minutes. Second, after the experiment, a post-test was carried out using the same test for the pre-test. Finally, the t-test was used to determine whether there were significant differences in the achievement of reading comprehension between the two groups. The data showed that there were significant differences in the achievement of reading comprehension between the experimental groups - treated with Semantic Mapping strategies and the control group taught with KWL strategy. It means that the Semantic Mapping Strategy is more effective than KWL Strategy. The data indicate that there is significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between the experimental group - treated and Semantic Mapping strategy, and the control group taught with KWL strategy.
