Administrative data from clients (n=177) attending the program between June 2010 and April 2011 were analyzed. Our preliminary findings revealed three variables to independently predict employment in a green job in the final multivariate logistic regression model. Those who completed the solar power installation training (AOR=7.19, CI=1.89, 27.34) and business etiquette training (AOR=3.40; CI = 1.56, 7.41) were significantly more likely to have a green job than those who did not complete that particular training. Interestingly, African Americans were significantly less likely to be employed in green jobs than other ethnicities (AOR=0.47; CI = 0.23, 0.98). Results also indicated that over half of the green jobs paid between $12.00 and $33.00 per hour. Overall, the manuscript provides preliminary data to explore effective program components to providing the Pathways Out of Poverty Green Jobs Training program. Further exploration is needed.

However, Black Americans who worked in predominately White workspaces perceived race-based discrimination to be a real issue. Perseverative cognition related to work can cause an increase in the individual’s need to recovery because it maintains work-related stressors that deplete the individual’s resources further. The repetitive thoughts can lead to anticipatory cognition or stress, which makes the individual hyperaware or vigilant due to thinking they may experience racial discrimination or a racial encounter. Social support has been used to buffer the adverse effects that are caused by racial encounters. Social support has shown to have an influence on mental health by buffering the effects of stressors. Participants were provided a survey that include three questionnaires to complete. The results showed that the overall models for the two analyses were significant. However, the moderators for the analyses were not significant.

However, they are often difficult to discuss\u0000in class because theories can be abstract and elusive for students.\u0000This may be especially true when exploring macro level theories.\u0000Social work students are attracted to the field of social work because\u0000of its practical application and often because they are interested\u0000in working with micro level systems. Further, in considering\u0000social work education at the BSW and often MSW level, using\u0000Bloom's Taxonomy, theory discussions and synthesis are certainly\u0000beyond the undergraduate expectation and similarly difficult for\u0000MSW students to contextualize. However, HBSE theories are the\u0000conceptual foundation of competent social work practice. This lack\u0000of exposure can also be said of working with diverse populations.\u0000Many undergraduate BSW programs are not in urban areas, but\u0000social workers need to understand urban problems as they advocate\u0000for social policy development and work with urban client systems\u0000at various levels of practice. Stigma acts as a barrier to mental health treatment. This research explores the influence of self-stigma and public stigma toward mental health care among Chinese adults. The study investigated which participant characteristics affect stigma toward mental health treatment, and whether participant exposure to mental health problems moderates the relationship between participant characteristics and stigma toward mental health. Five hundred participants were recruited in public areas throughout Shanghai to participate in a community survey comprised of demographic questions and standardized instruments. Findings indicate that knowing someone with a mental health problem moderates the relationship between participant characteristics (e.g., age, gender, employment status) and stigma. Also, this study found that gender and knowing someone with a mental health problem influence public stigma. Results support the inclusion of family in the treatment of mental illness at a clinical practice level in China and informs anti-stigma interventions and public awareness campaigns at a policy level.

Contrary to many scientific expectations, native Africans on the continent are less impacted compared to the global number of infections in other regions of the world. Therefore, an analysis of the role of melanin and milieu should be assessed by healthcare providers who have a concern for melanin-dominant populations. Questions are raised that Melanin has antiviral effects and there are additional factors derived from comorbidity that impact the susceptibility to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) embedded in institutional racism (aka the system of white supremacy-Milieu). Dietary practices, access to healthcare, lifestyle and genetics can influence the severity of illnesses associated with contracting this virulent coronavirus via intense erratic activation of the immune system among those subjected to a plethora of chronic societal stressors. In summary, this article will address the effects of this crisis on people of African descent and suggest alternative treatments as an intermediary, rather than exclusive reliance on a vaccine as preventative treatment. The relevance of such discourse is critical given America’s medical history, which has fostered profound distrust among her melanin-dominant citizenry.

This paper presents a qualitative evaluation model used by the Local Interagency Network for Children’s Services (LINCS), in Shasta County, California, as an example of evaluation of multisystems collaboration in child welfare services. This evaluation of a multisystems service delivery process includes key findings regarding day-to-day operations, financial relationships, and working relationships, as well as a comparison of the prior foster care services delivery system and the LINCS program. Lessons learned, recommendations, and implications for knowledge of the foster care service delivery process and evaluation research of foster care programs are included.

The potential for oppression of LGBQ youth of color and/or those holding non-Christian beliefs, are exponentially increased. Historical, social, political, and cultural contexts also influence experiences of marginalization. The ecological perspective, combined with risk and resilience theory, form a conceptual basis to clarify the reciprocal relationships between LGBQ youth and their environments. Together, these theories assist in locating optimal intervention points for mental health professionals, ensuring the best possible outcomes for this population. Utilizing these theoretical frameworks, the author discusses the importance of recognizing and advocating for strategies to promote health and mental well-being among LGBQ youth.

This study was guided by one research question: What are the levels of food insecurity among first generation Latinx college students and non-first generation Latinx college students at CSU Stanislaus? This was a quantitative research design. The sample consisted of 1,064 undergraduate and graduate Latinx students at CSU Stanislaus enrolled during the Fall 2019 academic year. Participants responded to an electronic survey. An Independent Samples T-test was conducted. The first major finding revealed first generation college students reported a higher average of food insecurity than non- first generation college students. Another major finding revealed that both first generation and non-first generation respondents do suffer from some level of food insecurity. The 2019 Novel Coronavirus created limited availability of food items for consumer purchase. Survey responses to measure food insecurity levels among this population may have differed prior to the stay-at-home order initiated by the 2019 Novel Coronavirus pandemic. One future research implication is to spread awareness of the Warrior Food Pantry at CSU Stanislaus. Future research can also explore the mental health impacts first generation and non-first generation Latinx college students experience due to food insecurity. Efforts by higher education should be made to find ways to spread awareness to all food assistance programs available to its students to address and diminish food insecurity on campuses.

The result is the discovery of “Who Am I?” or adolescent identity development. Identity development during adolescence includes determining one’s values and creating meaning in life, as well as integrating how one is viewed by others and identifying contradictions among these perspectives. By developing an identity that integrates various features of their sense of self, adolescents can better interpret their life experiences, therefore improving their general well-being and health [1]. There are several aspects of adolescent identity development, including participation in sociocultural contexts such as home, school, or work, internal and psychological processes of exploring aspects of identity, and social group membership [2].
