It has been assumed that the building involves a platform equipped with smart communication and metering infrastructures, recalling the smart home (SH) concept. The best economically optimal model is choosed in each case based on the net present cost (NPC) and the cost of energy (COE) criteria. Mutual effects of the inflation rate uncertainty, project life-time span and a comparative model to study the use of combined heat and power (CHP) technology on the objective function have been modelled. An economic index related to environmental issues and one related to the thermal load supply have been defined and analysed. Finally a conclusion has been done according to results achieved throughout the study.","PeriodicalId":179631,"journal":{"name":"18th Electric Power Distribution Conference","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116145034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed method is based on the social behavior of firefly insects and their shining phenomenon. A sufficient two phase modification technique is proposed to improve the total search ability of the algorithm effectively. The objective function to be investigated is the total annually cost including the cost of power losses as well as the capacitor placement cost simultaneously. During the optimization process, several equality and inequality constraints should be met when the discrete nature of the capacitor placement problem should be satisfied too. The superiority and effectiveness of the proposed method is examined on the 9-bus and 34-bus standard distribution test systems.","PeriodicalId":179631,"journal":{"name":"18th Electric Power Distribution Conference","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130388236","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Weibull probability distribution has been used frequently for the reliability performance analysis. Over the years several new distributions have been proposed that are either derived from, or in some way related to, the Weibull distributions. They provide a richness that makes them appropriate to model complex data sets. Effective reliability performance analysis require good understanding of the properties of these different distributions as well as tools and techniques to determine if a particular distribution is appropriate to model a given data set. Many of these derived distributions have their own shape in the Weibull probability plot (WPP). Hence, WPP plot can be used as a tool for model selection through these distributions. This paper presents a case study regarding the reliability performance analysis of the electricity meter based on the field failure data using the Weibull distribution family. Weibull Probability plot (WPP) is used as a tool for the model selection and validation.","PeriodicalId":179631,"journal":{"name":"18th Electric Power Distribution Conference","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121987582","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Self-healing can be performed in system level (like restoration and local generation), in component level, or by reinforcing the healer system reinforcement (called as healer healing). Smart Grid literature chiefly focuses on the two former approaches; while, the latter has gained less attention despite merit. A proper healer reinforcement method is expanding redundancy, in both control and protection subsystems. The redundancy expansion and the consequent self-healed distribution network is anticipated to express lower outage times, thus higher reliability and increased social welfare. This paper investigates the effect of redundancy expansion on reinforcement of the Smart Grid healer, by reliability modeling of protection and control subsystems. The positive effect of the proposed healer reinforcement approach on the overall Smart Grid reliability is shown on RBTS4, and the results are discussed then.","PeriodicalId":179631,"journal":{"name":"18th Electric Power Distribution Conference","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125088357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method uses output current phasors of PMU for detection of HIF. At first, change of current detects by summation of errors between sampled data and estimated samples that are obtained from output phasors of PMU,Then in order to certain that this change is HIF, 3rd harmonic phase of fault current is used to discriminate HIF from normal condition such as load increasing/decreasing. Effects of transformer vector group on 3r harmonic phase are also studied. Several cases are simulated in EMTP&MATLAB to evaluate accuracy of method.","PeriodicalId":179631,"journal":{"name":"18th Electric Power Distribution Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130025996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Presence of DG influences the performance of distribution network that can be positive or negative. In this paper the effect of DG on the performance of an It-overcurrent (inverse time overcurrent) relay, used for current protection of the grid has been studied. The study has been performed from two points of views; it's effect on relay operating time and relay reach (the certain distance that relay are set to protect). For studying DG's effect on the performance of a Distribution system, the effect of a DG with different injection percent (to the max grid load), which is placed in different distances from the grid voltage source has been examined. The Simulations has been performed by using Matlab/Simulinki Simpower system software. The results show that the DGs injection percent and its distance from the It-over current relay significantly affect the It-over current relay protection performance.","PeriodicalId":179631,"journal":{"name":"18th Electric Power Distribution Conference","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127723520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Renewable energy resources (RES) based on Distributed Generation (DG) are innovated in response to pollution lower, efficiency enhancement, cost reduction and reliability improvement in deregulated market over the past two decades. Renewable generations are principally characterized by variability and uncertainty properties. Novel approaches are necessitated to robustly utilize the resources. Energy storage devices and demand response programs have strong ability to complement the renewable weakness attributes. Intelligent technologies have provided smooth path for balancing demand and supply more than before in smart grid environment. In this paper, energy storages and interruptable electrical load service; subsection of demand response programs as smart grid important keys are applied to entirely utilize the valuable resources; wind and solar in a proposed innovative hybrid energy system. The system has rich capability to exchange electricity between electricity networks in power market environment to profitably achieve minimum cost operation and maximize revenue. The approach is implemented on a commercial load through GAMS software in 24 hours a day. Results approve that what technology should be intelligently exploited to satisfy electrical commercial load in smart electrical power networks at every hour to minimize operation costs and maximize revenue.","PeriodicalId":179631,"journal":{"name":"18th Electric Power Distribution Conference","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131537574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The storage units are used for both peak cutting and diminishing of the energy not supplied in distribution network. Moreover, the uncertainty impact of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) on the optimal scheduling is considered. The uncertainty of PEVs is modeled by fuzzy set concepts. The uncoordinated PEVs are connected to the network in grid-to-vehicle (G2V) or vehicle-togrid (V2G) operating modes. Tabu Search (TS) algorithm is implemented for optimal scheduling. The numerical studies on a typical distribution network shows the ability of the proposed method and uncertainty impacts of PEVs on optimal scheduling of battery storage units.","PeriodicalId":179631,"journal":{"name":"18th Electric Power Distribution Conference","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134287416","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
