Ermiş","doi":"10.1109/IAS.2009.5324849","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/IAS.2009.5324849","url":null,"abstract":"In this paper, a new flicker contribution tracing method has been proposed to determine the individual flicker contributions of multiple-electric-arc-furnace (EAF) loads to the flicker measured at the point of common coupling (PCC). The proposed method decouples the flicker contribution of the interconnected electricity system from the individual contributions of the loads connected to the measured PCC, using the individual current variations of the loads, and the estimated short-circuit system impedance. It has been shown that the individual flicker contributions of the loads are mainly caused by the variation of their reactive current components. Since the computational complexity of the proposed method is low, it is appropriate for online applications. The algorithm can easily be embedded on a power quality analyzer, which can be employed as a flicker contribution meter. Performances are then decreasing a lot, specially for a system with variable parameters and direct drives. Moreover, a two-mass system representing numerous class of industrial problem can become unstable. Keeping stability, a simple controller and observer tuning approach and a lower time consuming are main goals of this study. A previous calculated state feedback is used as base for two Kalman filters with special a noise matrix. An evolutionary algorithm optimizes observer's degrees of freedom to keep stability all over the stiffness variation. This paper presents a cable model and a procedure of coupled electrical and thermal analyses for the evaluation of the current, loss, and temperature in the cables of concern. The cable model and analytical method were tested experimentally on a cable system in the laboratory. The procedure was applied to evaluate the current rating and the temperature rise in a particular single-conductor installation. It is concluded that the parallel cable installation without proper cable rephrasing derates the cables significantly. This work develops a highly efficient battery charger with a parallel-loaded resonant converter for battery charging applications to improve the performance of traditional switching-mode charger circuits. The charging voltage can be regulated by varying the switching frequency. The switching frequency of the parallel-loaded resonant battery charger was set at continuous conduction mode (CCM). Circuit operation modes are determined from the conduction profiles. Operating equations and operating theory are also developed. This study utilizes the fundamental wave approximation with a battery equivalent circuit to simplify the charger circuit analyses and presents an efficient, small-sized, and cost-effective switched-mode converter for battery chargers. A prototype charger with parallel-loaded resonant converter designed for a 12V-48Ah battery is built and tested to verify the analytical predictions. The maximum charging efficiency of the proposed battery charger topology is as high as 90.9%. The Cp curve is affected by several factors such as the structure of a wind turbine, surrounding environment in which the wind turbine built, and its method of control, etc. Therefore, it is necessary to estimate this curve in real-time using direct measurements from the generator and wind turbine. To achieve the optimal estimation for the Cp curve, the reduced multivariate polynomial (RMP) model is applied because it can be basically represented in a polynomial form. Unlike general neural network algorithms, the RMP model avoids a training process. This characteristic makes it possible to apply to the real-time estimation in a practical situation. Also, the first-order partial derivatives of the Cp curve are easily computed by using the RMP model. This derivative information can be effectively used to maximize turbine output power by a proper pitch angle control. This paper has investigated how both an electromechanical and a solid-state protection relay are affected by the nonsinusoidal resulting current within the electrical system. The work was carried out using a commonly used GEC CDG11 electromechanical overcurrent relay and a Multilin 369 Plus digital Motor Management Relay. The testing was carried out using a three-phase Omicron 256 Plus secondary injection test set. The test results showed that harmonic currents are not filtered out by either of the two relays and that both of the relays tested will operate faster than they are otherwise seen to do due to nonsinusoidal currents. Connection to the utility is performed through a front-end power factor correction stage. Fine tuning is performed by overlapping the control signals of the resonant converter phases. Output ripple is reduced by interleaving each module and the arc strike is achieved with no extra circuitry and at low voltage. DC and multiple pulsating operations from 20 Hz to 5 kHz with different pulse widths have been tested. The resulting arc stability, welding parameters and efficiency are analyzed. The proposed PFC front-end circuit combines the PFC stage and the dc/dc stage into a single stage. Experimental results obtained on a 78-W (24- V/ 3.25-A) prototype circuit show that at VIN = 110 Vac, the proposed PFC front-end for HB LED applications can achieve an efficiency of 87.5%, a power factor of 0.98, and a total harmonic distortion (THD) of 14% with line-current sharmonics that meet the IEC 61000-3-2 Class C standard. This paper will describe generator pitch along with other generator design criteria that affect output harmonics.
