Due to its highly interoperable, scalable, widespread, and open nature, the IoT approach is an ideal match for precision agriculture. We built our model in response to the above benefits and potentials of IoT in precision agriculture. In this paper we propose a low cost IoT based network model using the developed IoT sensor node for precision agriculture applications consisting of a near-infrared sensor and general purpose microcontroller for gathering data from agricultural fields. Our model architecture is extremely flexible, and it provides a machine learning data analytics solution that enables small size data processing at the edge of the network (sensor nodes) and large-scale data processing on real-time observation streams of data from a number nodes in the cloud. We employ LoRaWAN™, a wide area networking protocol as a transmission protocol in our solution, which has a low power consumption, long-range capability, it's affordable and requires little maintenance, making it perfect for large fields and variable number of sensor nodes. According to the first results of device testing presented in this report, our device might provide affordable means of field-based spatio-temporal sensing.","PeriodicalId":176605,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 8th World Forum on Internet of Things (WF-IoT)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130187176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many people can move about with abnormal gait patterns for years without knowing the odd symptoms. However, an abnormal walking style can lead to more significant health problems when someone's regular gait pattern is altered due to injury or illness. Therefore, one must self-assess and diagnose the early stages of abnormal gait. We propose an interdisciplinary implementation of the Human Gait Analysis System project (HGAS), a human pose estimation using the PoseNet machine learning model that can run on a smartphone browser. Gait analysis conducted in a laboratory environment is expen-sive and cannot be used to assess the person's gait daily. There-fore, it is desired to focus on developing a new gait analysis system that is affordable for personal use, user-friendly, and mobile. The present work explores machine learning techniques that can be used to determine basic gait parameters using observational gait analysis. The individual can utilize the developed system for a self-gait assessment, help doctors/nurses to understand the patient gait patterns for their treatment, or an individual pose assessment during yoga/exercises.","PeriodicalId":176605,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 8th World Forum on Internet of Things (WF-IoT)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127175338","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the literature, there are some conventional synchronization algorithms including the autocorrelation algorithm and the cross-correlation algorithm. Although the cross-correlation algorithm outperforms the autocorrelation algorithm, the performance of the cross-correlation algorithm is significantly affected by the carrier frequency offset (CFO). In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm that is robust to the CFO and has better performance than the autocorrelation algorithm. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm performs well when CFO is introduced.","PeriodicalId":176605,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 8th World Forum on Internet of Things (WF-IoT)","volume":"2007 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128958850","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For example, in Ambient Assisted Living (AAL), the concept of context-awareness empowers users by reducing their dependence on others. Due to this role in healthcare, such systems need to be reliable and usable by their intended users. Our research addresses the development, testing and validation of context-aware systems in an emerging field which currently lacks sufficient systems engineering processes and disciplines. One specific issue being that developers often focus on delivering a system that works at some level, rather than engineering a system that meets a specified set of system requirements and their corresponding qualities. Our research aims to contribute towards improving the delivery of system quality by tracing, developing and linking systems development data for requirements, contexts including sensors, test cases and their results, and user validation tests and their results. We refer to this approach as the “quality traceability of context-aware systems”. In order to support the developer, the quality traceability of context-aware systems introduces a systems development approach tailored to context-aware systems in intelligent environments, an automated system testing tool and system validation process. We have implemented a case study to inform the research. The case study is in healthcare and based on an AAL system used to remotely monitor and manage, in real time, an individual prone to depressive symptoms.","PeriodicalId":176605,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 8th World Forum on Internet of Things (WF-IoT)","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121355338","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to systems that involve computation, sensing, communication, and it involves the connection between humans, non-human physical objects, enabling monitoring, automation, and decision making within organization. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of ‘smart’ devices that connect and communicate via the Internet. The concept of the IoT is to establish a pervasive and ubiquitous environment (i.e., an IoT ecosystem) with a variety of things or objects (e.g., RFID tags, sensors and actuators, smart phones, washing machines, smart TV, etc.) that can autonomously collaborate, and cooperate to reach common goals providing smart services for the benefit of humankind. Because of lack of awareness within the public about devices, lack of standardization for devices, and characteristics of IoT are highly dynamic, and continuously change because of mobility, for that reasons IoT alleviates concerns about security, and privacy. In this paper research is mainly focusing on the concept of IoT, architecture, new business model and security and privacy issues with suggested countermeasure and cyber security awareness in IoT threats, also outlines recommendations for how to mitigate or reduce the effects of these IoT concerns.","PeriodicalId":176605,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 8th World Forum on Internet of Things (WF-IoT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122555077","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the increasing use of asynchronous, wireless Internet of Things (IoT) technologies such as IEEE 802.15.4/6LoWPAN, the demand of applications that require some form of reliability and agreement are on the rise. Yet practical implementations of FDs are less visible, and to our knowledge, entirely unavailable for the IEEE 802.15.4/6LoWPAN-stack until recently. We already presented 6LoFD, an FD specifically aimed at energy and memory efficient operation in small scale, unreliable networks. In this work we are able to validate key findings of our initial presentation, but also improve on some identified shortcomings of our preliminary evaluations. We further show significantly broadened evaluation results and related insights.","PeriodicalId":176605,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 8th World Forum on Internet of Things (WF-IoT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115316298","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, we propose a cache-aided simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) scheme for a bidi-rectional cooperative hybrid relaying system wherein two source nodes communicate with each other via a hybrid decode-amplify-and-forward (HDAF) relay node. Considering a time-switching (TS) protocol for harvesting energy and probabilistic caching at the HDAF relay node, we derive novel analytical expressions of the exact and asymptotic outage probability, throughput and energy efficiency in a Nakagami-m fading environment. The correctness of the proposed analysis is verified through Monte Carlo simulations. Moreover, numerical results show the superiority of our proposed scheme over other existing schemes.","PeriodicalId":176605,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 8th World Forum on Internet of Things (WF-IoT)","volume":"202 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131513189","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Control algorithms deployed on smart systems are now driven by connected sensors with control decisions being made based on the sensor generated data. As sensors tend to be unreliable and prone to failures, this has resulted in the increase of system errors due to the wrong control decisions derived from the faulty sensor readings, thus affecting the performance, safety and quality of the operational tasks. Existing methodologies to evaluate and test such systems do not take into account the complexity and uncertainty exhibited by the underlying sensor networks, and hence not being able to dynamically verify the behaviour of the smart systems at run-time. This paper proposes a novel run-time verification framework combining sensor-level fault detection and system-level probabilistic model checking. This framework rigorously quantifies the trustworthiness of sensor readings, hence enabling formal reasoning for system failure prediction. We evaluated our approach on a passenger lift equipped with sensor networks to monitor its main components continuously. The results indicate that the proposed verification framework involving the quantified sensor's trustworthiness enhances the accuracy of the system failure prediction.","PeriodicalId":176605,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 8th World Forum on Internet of Things (WF-IoT)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131557132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

IoT devices are installed for monitoring the environment and the LORAWAN things network stack is used to collect raw sensor data into the cloud. A major challenge faced by geologists were outliers in the collected data, caused by natural and weather conditions or device/sensor failures. We propose a system for data collection, detection of outliers using unsupervised machine learning algorithms, tagging of outlier data, and storing the results. We utilize Serverless (FaaS) model to deploy individual data processing services as virtual functions, which can be executed in an event-driven manner on data streams. We designed two different serverless data pipeline (SDP) approaches: Apache NiFi and Message Queue (MQTT) based. We investigated the performance of the two proposed approaches and results showed that Apache NiFi-based SDP approach has a lower processing time and higher disk utilization. In contrast, the MQTT-based approach experienced higher processing time and lower disk and memory utilization. Our suitability analysis showed that Apache NiFi-based approach suits better for environment monitoring applications like PuhatuMonitoring.","PeriodicalId":176605,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 8th World Forum on Internet of Things (WF-IoT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131245834","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
