A sample of 114 high-intermediate and advanced ESL students completed two self-reported surveys: the Questionnaire of English Self-Efficacy (QESE) scale and the Revised Almost Perfect Scale (APS-R). Pearson correlation, the hierarchical cluster analysis, MANOVA, and independent samples t-test were run. The main results showed that the total English self-efficacy scale and its four subscales correlated significantly with the Order and High Standards subscales. However, the Discrepancy subscale did not significantly correlate with the total English self-efficacy scale or with any of the four selfefficacy subscales. In addition, there was a significant main effect for perfectionism on students’ English self-efficacy: adaptive perfectionists scored higher than both maladaptive perfectionists and non-perfectionists while the non-perfectionists scored the lowest. However, there was not any significant interaction between English levels and perfectionism.","PeriodicalId":175961,"journal":{"name":"ECPS - Educational Cultural and Psychological Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116030654","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to investigate the needs and expectations for a better qualification of virtual learning environments and online didactic, we administered the «Questionnaire on the evaluation of the quality of the educational experience» to the students of the Degree in an online degree program of Roma Tre University. We distinguish assessments provided by young adult students aged 18 to 32 years, mature adults aged 33 to 45 years, and senior adults aged 46 to 58 years. The results indicate the importance attributed in particular by the younger age groups (from 18 to 45 years) to the role of tutor as mediator. The expected professional skills include the request to develop the «individualization capacity of the teaching» and the «organizational and communicative-relational skills». There are also specific expectations of enhancing the «affective usability» of virtual learning environments. Thanks to these forms of innovation of e-learning systems, it will be possible to promote online attention and learning processes.","PeriodicalId":175961,"journal":{"name":"ECPS - Educational Cultural and Psychological Studies","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124988598","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Generating preservice teachers’ prior knowledge in inquiry activities is needed using conflict cognitive strategies. Based on theoretical studies, the conflict cognitive strategy can treat learners to think critically. This study was aimed at describing the effects of the conflict cognitive strategy in inquiry-based learning model on preservice teachers’ critical thinking ability. This study was quasi-experimental research with one group pretest-posttest design. The sample of this study consisted of 18 preservice teachers of the physics study program at State Islamic University of Mataram. The preservice-teachers’ critical thinking ability were assessed using a critical thinking ability test instrument in the form of essay test. The data of critical thinking ability were analyzed descriptively and statistically, where homogeneity test, normality test, and t-test were applied. The results showed that the conflict cognitive strategy in inquiry-based learning model had a significant effect on preservice teachers’ critical thinking ability. The finding and discussion are further described in this article.","PeriodicalId":175961,"journal":{"name":"ECPS - Educational Cultural and Psychological Studies","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121941917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For these reasons, there is a need to deepen the evaluation practices addressed to teachers, in order to trigger a personal and collective reflection on this theme that can then be translated into good practices used by all school operators. Starting from these premises, the present work aims to present the research that allowed developing a new self-assessment tool for teachers, called Reflective Questionnaire for Teacher Self Appraisal (REQUEST). This work aims too to show the results related to its first exploratory investigation. This tool could not only allow the recognition of individual performances but also constitute an incentive for all teachers to undertake paths for improvement. The aims of the research and the important role attributed to the evaluation process are considered in terms of professional development: for these reasons the tool was also built with the teachers, through the contribution they provided during the empirical phase prior to the construction of the instrument.","PeriodicalId":175961,"journal":{"name":"ECPS - Educational Cultural and Psychological Studies","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134209662","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The strategic role played by the reading motivation has been broadened by educational research, which have highlighted the correlation between reading motivation and learning outcomes (Gambrell, 1996; Froiland & Oros, 2014; Schiefele, Stutz, & Schaffner, 2016). Teachers can help students become mature and aware readers. Therefore, they should be able to understand the students’ individual needs and to identify the most effective teaching strategies (Lumbelli, 1988; Moretti, 1993; Cardarello, 2004). This paper intends to share with the scientific community a tool capable of detecting the reading motivation of the students of the last classes of primary school. The Motivation for Reading Questionnaire (Wigfield & Guthrie, 1997) has been translated and adapted to the national context by conducting exploratory factorial analysis. In the Italian version, the questionnaire was reduced and four factors were identified: «Recognition», «Engagement», «Competition», «Sharing and sociability». The results of the research are reported to disseminate the outcomes with researchers, teachers and educators interested in deepening the theme of reading motivation.","PeriodicalId":175961,"journal":{"name":"ECPS - Educational Cultural and Psychological Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114547256","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Yet, the specific relevance of these skills for particular job occupations is still to explore. We investigated perceptions of skill requirements and their development potential reflected against cultural impacts, using close interviews of 64 managers at firms in different fields of industries in Italy and Finland. Managers reported that, due to heightened competitive pressure, specific soft skills, particularly Work in team and flexibility to develop, are becoming increasingly important. The study indicates that the perceived significance of soft skills seems to vary according to the working environment and occupation. Furthermore, some soft skills seem to have a higher potential for development and thus suggested to be implemented in the university curricula. The paper concludes that a country characterized by working  environments conducive to the development of soft skills, must however promote research for the identification and relevance of the skills themselves.","PeriodicalId":175961,"journal":{"name":"ECPS - Educational Cultural and Psychological Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117138964","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The participants were 89 students from three second grade primary schools divided into an experimental and control groups matched on IQ and age. Both groups were assessed by tests of intelligence. The experimental group was trained with a dynamic testing methodology. The results show a significant difference between the means of the posttest gain scores in the experimental and control groups with a high effect size. There was a temporary stability of the gained scores, because no significant difference between the posttest and the retest were found in a period of three months in the experimental group. In conclusion, the EPA-2 may be useful as dynamic testing for learning potential for this ethnic group and educational level.","PeriodicalId":175961,"journal":{"name":"ECPS - Educational Cultural and Psychological Studies","volume":"18 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113937880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mediation has proved to be a useful tool for peace-building in different countries by developing individuals, their relationships, and the school climate. However, little research has assessed mediation practices. This study aims to evaluate mediation through the perceptions of secondary school students in Spain in order to highlight strengths and weaknesses of school mediation programs. It specifically aims to learn from the assessment by those who attended mediation and to detect whether there exist any significant differences regarding gender and school year. To do this, we conducted a survey study, and data from 1,198 students were collected by means of an ad hoc questionnaire. A descriptive-inferential study shows the high level of agreement between the students, who rate mediation positively, in particular, those who have used mediation for conflict resolution. Regarding necessary improvements, it is imperative to offer more information about the mediation services provided by the educational centres, to train the entire educational community and to broaden the role played by mediation, which has still to unleash its potential.","PeriodicalId":175961,"journal":{"name":"ECPS - Educational Cultural and Psychological Studies","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125313072","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
