It requires unique procedures such as position setting, port placement, roll-in, and docking, which lead to prolonged operation and anesthesia time. Five conditions described below were established at our institution to reduce the time to the initiation of console: (1) changing the patients' position from the flat lithotomy position to the spread legs position; (2) attaching a Hasson cone to hold the umbilical cannula stable; (3) changing the cannula's obturator (inner tube) from blunt to bladeless; (4) fixing the team, and (5) conducting regular docking training. These outcomes were examined in this study. The study included 77 patients who underwent robotic-assisted total hysterectomy for benign uterine disease and stage IA uterine cancer at our individual institution between April 2019 and July 2022. We compared the median time from anesthesia to console initiation between the first half group (cases 1-40) and the second half group (cases 41-77). The former required 91.5 (53-131) minutes, whereas the latter required 59 (37-126) minutes. The present study explored the factors associated with workers' perception of paints as \"dangerous and harmful\". A questionnaire survey and interviews were conducted with workers engaged in painting operations in small-sized painting companies (fewer than 50 employees) in northern Kyushu and Yamaguchi prefectures. Safety and health education methods making workers perceive paint as \"dangerous and harmful\" were clarified. Fisher's exact test and logistic regression analysis were used for the survey and hierarchical cluster analysis for the interviews. The factor \"Hazard prediction activity (KY Activity)\", gender, and job position were identified as factors that make workers perceive paint as \"dangerous and harmful\". Based on the interview results, \"KY Activity\" was a keyword and a standardized safety and health activity. Before work, workers gather in a small group to discuss the dangers and hazards of paint, share information, establish action goals, and confirm safety measures. The questionnaire identified \"KY Activity\" as a factor influencing the workers' perception of paint as \"dangerous and harmful\". \"KY Activity,\" also extracted from the interviews, is an effective health and safety education method for teaching workers in small-sized painting companies that paint is \"dangerous and harmful\".</p>","PeriodicalId":17570,"journal":{"name":"Journal of UOEH","volume":"46 2","pages":"191-202"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141260376","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This case report discusses the fitness-to-work assessment for a Hansen's disease patient with a disability. A 19-year-old female, who worked as an online shop warehouse staff, presented at our hospital with a wound on her left hand accompanied by numbness. The patient's activity indicated mild limitations with a SALSA score of 25. A seven-step process for evaluating fitness to work was conducted. These steps involved assessing the patient's medical condition, disability, job demands, risks, and tolerance to determine the appropriate work status. This patient was declared fit to work with a note as online shop warehouse staff. She must take care of herself by maintaining good personal hygiene and consulting a doctor regularly, in addition to educating other workers about her condition and avoiding stigma. Routine examinations are also an important part of treating leprosy in the workplace.</p>","PeriodicalId":17570,"journal":{"name":"Journal of UOEH","volume":"46 2","pages":"215-220"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141260375","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this study was to assess the rate of usage of the numerical rating scale (NRS), a verbal communication tool, and to identify the characteristics of patients in whom continuous assessment was impossible. We retrospectively examined electronic medical records of patients with acute vertebral fractures who had been admitted to our hospital between April 2018 and March 2020. Continuous pain assessment using the NRS was possible in 43.2% of hospitalized patients with the fractures. The factors preventing continuous pain assessment using the NRS were an advanced age and low Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) scores. Based on the receiver-operating characteristic curves, the cutoff age and MMSE score were >85.3 years and <22, respectively. Continuous NRS-based pain assessment is difficult in older adult patients or those with cognitive decline with acute vertebral fractures. In future, a simple observational assessment tool for patients with dementia should be introduced in acute medical care settings.</p>","PeriodicalId":17570,"journal":{"name":"Journal of UOEH","volume":"46 3","pages":"251-261"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142108799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We investigated whether simple stress reports and computer usage data could be useful tools for long-term assessment of stress in real life. 38 experts responded to a baseline questionnaire on need for recovery (NFR) and psychological distress (General Health Questionnaire, GHQ12). Their computer usage for work was recorded for 5 months, during which they filled in a 4-month simple diary and a 2-week detailed diary on, for example, stress and productivity. Salivary cortisol and heart rate variability were collected on 3 consecutive days. Generalized estimating equations models were used for the analyses. High NFR and GHQ12 predicted self-reported stress during work, and a decrease in (some) mouse usage features, but not keyboard usage features, over the following months. Some mouse usage features were associated with stress and productivity. The results provide some support for the usefulness of simple stress questions and mouse usage features in assessing long-term stress in real life.</p>","PeriodicalId":17570,"journal":{"name":"Journal of UOEH","volume":"46 1","pages":"103-112"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140119920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The permeation resistance of the chemical protective glove was tested using the Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) test method against twelve substances: acetone, acetonitrile, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, n-hexane, methanol, tetrahydrofuran, toluene, 2-propanol, 1-butanol, 1,4-diethylene dioxide, and ethanol. After 480 min, no substance, except for methanol and ethanol, permeated at a standard permeation rate of 0.1 μg/cm2/min. Methanol and ethanol showed permeation at 1 min and 30 min elapsed, respectively. Hence, the gloves tested in this study exhibited permeation resistance to various chemical substances, and can thus be used in many work processes. Intravenous glycerol administration is often used in Japan to treat patients with acute stroke or brain trauma, but such treatment can cause elevated lactate levels. We experienced a case of transient hyperlactatemia induced by intravenous glycerol administration in a patient with brain trauma. A 74-year-old woman underwent decompressive craniotomy because of loss of consciousness and brain edema. Glycerol was administered after the operation for management of the brain edema. Although the patient's hemodynamics remained stable, her lactate level decreased and increased repeatedly.
