From a transiently unstable operating point for a given contingency scenario, a multiobjective transient stability-constrained optimal power flow is proposed to obtain a transiently stable operating point, where the total transfer capability is maximized. The stabilization process is performed by sequentially solving the optimization and the transient stability problems until a suitable generation dispatch is obtained. At the resulting operating point, the system is able to withstand the specified contingency. In this proposal, the multiobjective optimization problem is formulated by using the physical programming method, which allows prioritizing the different objective functions according to the operational needs of the system. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated on the WSCC 3-machine-9 bus test system.","PeriodicalId":174166,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116776946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Resonant DC-DC converters are increasingly used in applications that require high-power density and high-efficiency. At the same time, a control system for the series-resonant converter is introduced in order to reduce the switching power losses. The main advantage of resonant converters is their soft-switching which solves the problem of high-frequency operation. The resonant load topology is also studied and applied. In this way, zero-voltage switching (ZVS) is achieved in the H-bridge converter. This control algorithm aims to achieve its optimum operating point. In this case, the operating frequency in the resonant converter can vary over a wide range during the melting cycle in the induction furnace. The resonant converter has variable frequency control and phase-shift modulation so that the LLC resonant tank can operate at the resonance point in the load. Matlab-Simulink has been the software used to develop the high-power resonant converter, as well as to support the previous analysis. The simulation results obtained are shown in the paper.","PeriodicalId":174166,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128209343","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Identification of two-phase flow patterns is a complicated task due to the diversity of factors on which these flow patterns depend. The performance of the process of training, validation, and classification tests of images of two-phase flow patterns using convolutional neural networks is presented. In order to carry out this procedure, series of frames were extracted from experimental videos. Afterwards, an image catalog with samples of representative flow patterns with the types of slug, annular, semi-annular, and dispersed annular flow was defined, in addition a category of superior annular was included, described by presenting the annular flow pattern in the upper section while the appearance of disturbances at the bottom of the image, this last category represents a transition process between the annular flow and another flow pattern. The pattern identification effectiveness obtained with the proposed scheme was greater than 90%, for the five flow patterns used, demonstrating that convolutional neural networks can perform two-phase flow regimes identification.","PeriodicalId":174166,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"06 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127201470","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a Regula Falsi method used to calculate the voltage at the Maximum Power Point (MPP) in a PV panel. The proposed method is compared through simulations against the Perturb and Observe (P&O) method, which is typically used in the literature because of its simplicity, precision, and fast implementation. The results obtained show that the proposed method calculates the MPP with good accuracy and in shorter simulation times than the P&O method, even with changes in the weather, such as changes in the solar radiation and the temperature.","PeriodicalId":174166,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127266244","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An incipient isolation fault between two adjacent turns of the rotor winding of one phase afterward provokes a great number of Inter-turn short-circuits (ITSCs) due to the vibration produced by this unbalance between the three rotor phases. For this purpose, an early diagnosis of any incipient ITSC at different loads is prominent to get rid of subsequent degradation and minimize the maintenance costs. The monitoring condition (CM) system, based on the association of the Hilbert Transform (HT), Time-Synchronous-Averaging (TSA), and Motor Current Signature Analysis (MCSA), is elaborated. The proposed methodology has been built and verified using Matlab/Simulink. The obtained outcomes indicate that the developed technique can extract a small percentage of shorted turns in the rotor winding of the wound rotor machine even under low or no-load.","PeriodicalId":174166,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133445540","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The use of this implementation technique allows the development of an efficient, decentralized and embedded system with high scalability and robustness, in addition to providing it with an effective and easy-to-use interface. The hardware components of the system implement the evolutionary process and the software elements perform image pre-processing tasks and provide the user interface. The SoPC was implemented on a Zybo-Z7 development board equipped with a Xilinx Zynq-7000 family device and it has been numerically validated on synthetic and real images. Detection rates obtained for both types of images demonstrate the suitability of this proposal to design embedded systems with size, resources and power consumption limitations for applications in Industry 4.0 and other related paradigms.","PeriodicalId":174166,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131186243","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This behavior has been explained as the result of unmodelled dynamics in imperfect switching without regarding the intrinsic dynamics excited by a finite time transition in discontinuous control. In this paper, in order to provide a better understanding of the dynamics involved in the switching control, the author presents a model of fast switching transitions introducing the neglected dynamics of a almost instantaneous change, and analyses its effects on the natural dynamics of the plant using, as generic case of study, a second order linear plant. The analysis first recalls some basics differential equations concerning their general solution as the addition of both, the forced solution induced by the control input, and the homogeneous one of the free dynamics of the plant; then, introduces a switching model of the fast dynamic changes of a almost instantaneous transition to determine the excited free dynamic response, considering a second order linear system as a plant. Finally, discusses about its effects into the general dynamics of the plant inducing the oscillatory behavior observed in the state variables.","PeriodicalId":174166,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128405012","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
