This work tries to be an introductory self-contained tutorial, explaining the stages involved in the derivation of the impedance model in the dq-domain of electronic converters. The method is revised with depth, showing the highlights thoroughly to obtain the analytical model. In order to validate the model, the numerical identification is also addressed, which is a second approach to compute the impedance using measurements of the system. A test system (a power converter interconnected to the grid) is used to illustrate the concepts, and simulations in the frequency domain show the match between the two approaches.","PeriodicalId":174166,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125405987","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work proposes a new non-linear index based on the combination of statistical indices, principal component analysis, and Mahalanobis distance for detecting and quantifying the level of severity of fatigue cracks in a four-story building subjected to forced excitations. To evaluate the proposed vibration-based Structural Health Monitoring (SHM), elements with different levels of fatigue cracks, which are generated artificially, are introduced into the building. They represent light, moderate, and severe damage, i.e., 25%, 50%, and 75% of loss in a cross-sectional area of a beam, respectively. Results show that the proposal can make a reliable evaluation of the building condition. It can be considered a methodology with low complexity, low computational load, and reduced processing time. These conditions allow obtaining an early diagnosis, generating timely assignments for maintenance processes.","PeriodicalId":174166,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126847324","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The connection of renewable generation units implies the use of power electronics creating an interface between the grid and the mechanical system, unlike conventional generation, the grid electrical frequency depends directly on the rotor frequency. In wind power generation, the power electronic converter decouples the mechanical speed from the grid's electrical frequency. In this paper, an evaluation of a virtual inertia control scheme for a variable wind speed turbine that simulates the inertia of a conventional generator supporting frequency extracting the inertia of the rotating turbine to improve the early transient response of the synchronous generators is presented. The speed deviation of a synchronous generator is used as a reference signal to feed the torque control on the wind turbine to level the output power as the synchronous generator finds a steady state speed after a disturbance.","PeriodicalId":174166,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115574877","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The models obtained are based on the determination of discrete differential equations through the numerical integration of the trapezoidal rule (TR), which correspond to Norton equivalent discrete models. The solution is obtained by nodal analysis in an LU decomposition process. In general terms, this application is suitable for the study and evaluation of adverse effects of power quality, such as voltage sags/swells, faults, harmonic distortion, among others. The case studies under consideration show the simplicity of the CCA method. Within the most used algorithms are the naive Bayesian classifier, K- nearest neighbors or vector support machines. An area of potential application is behavioral pharmacology, that evaluates the behavior of experimental subjects injected with different substances to identify beneficial or toxic effects. Present study, classical statistical and machine learning techniques were used to evaluate the effect of progesterone (0.5 and 2 mg / kg) in the raised arms and open field maze. The results were compared between both data analysis approaches, identifying an anxiolytic-like effect of the 2 mg / kg dose of progesterone, similar to that produced by diazepam. The results of the analysis using classical statistical techniques show an anxiolytic-like effect of progesterone at a dose of 2 mg / kg. Consistently the machine learning techniques identified this effect, and further allowed generating predictive models with a reduced number of variables. This enabled automatically identify the variables that provide more information to differentiate the experimental groups.","PeriodicalId":174166,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114127571","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main purpose of the control scheme is to keep the load voltage constant through precise current regulation. As a result, two feedback loops are used for this purpose: a non-linear inner (current) loop that uses the passive features of the system for current tracking and an outer (voltage) loop that generates the current reference through a proportional integral action over the output voltage. Additionally, an adaptation law is designed employing the immersion-invariance (I&I) scheme to enhance the robustness of the inner current loop with respect to load uncertainty. Hence, an adaptive energy-based controller with asymptotic stability is achieved. Simulations are performed with the aim to assess the controller performance. Is is observed that the output voltage regulation is robust in terms of load variation and unregulated DC voltage from the fuel-cell stack.","PeriodicalId":174166,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"125 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121939188","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, a low-power thermoelectric energy harvesting system composed of different TEG devices has been studied and analyzed. For this, non-uniform temperature conditions have been considered in each of the modules. The objective has been to reach the maximum power point (MPPT algorithm) in each module, and consequently, increase the overall efficiency of the energy harvesting system. The design, analysis, and development proposed in this paper can also be applied in photovoltaic systems or fuel cells with unbalanced power modules. The proposed Differential-Power Processing architecture uses a small Cuk converter, applied on each TEG module, in order to reduce power mismatches caused by non-uniform temperature conditions. Thus, the power flow through this Cuk converter is only a fraction of the total power flow of the system. The control algorithm used in the Cuk converter is oriented to achieve that each TEG device reaches its optimum operating point, which provides an active balance between the multiple devices, regardless of the temperature supported by each module. This method provides an efficient solution and thus allows us to increase the overall performance in the TEG devices structure. Matlab-Simulink has been the software used to study the TEG module array, as well as to support the previous analysis. The simulation results obtained have been satisfactory and are shown in this paper.","PeriodicalId":174166,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133761559","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The battery charger is composed by a cascade connection of two power converters; the first one is based on the traditional H-bridge converter topology that performs the rectification function and the second one is a bidirectional DC-DC converter that behaves as a buck converter to charge a battery bank. The proposed control methodology for the battery charger is composed of three loops, referred as power factor correction loop performed by a proportional-resonant controller that guarantees the tracking of a desired grid current reference. A voltage regulation loop conformed by a PI controller is proposed to regulate the DC-Link, which is the middle stage that links the PFC and DC-DC stage. For the battery charging stage, a PI controller is implemented to guarantee a constant input current to the battery bank. Also, an external control loop to generate the current reference on the constant voltage mode is designed. Numerical simulations are performed to evaluate the performance of the proposed control strategy.","PeriodicalId":174166,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"150 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126923064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
