Inflammatory bowel disease has a substantial impact on quality of life. It causes considerable personal, emotional, and social burdens. The impact of IBD on quality of life places a significant burden on the patient and caregivers. The study assessed the impact of inflammatory bowel disease and disease activity on quality of life of the patients. This cross-section study was conducted on 88 patients with inflammatory bowel disease who attended the IBD Clinic, Ain Shams University Hospitals. An informed consent was obtained from each patient. All patients were subjected to clinical assessment, laboratory investigations, colonoscopy, assessment of disease activity and assessment of quality of life using PCASEE score. The eighty-eight inflammatory bowel disease patients were divided into: disease group 40 (45.5%) patients, and G2: ulcerative colitis (UC) group 48 (54.5%) patients. They were 39 (44.3%) males and 49 (55.7 %) females, with ages ranged between 19 and 52 years old (mean 33). The result showed negative significant correlation between clinical and endoscopic activity in UC group measured by simple clinical colitis activity index and Mayo score respectively and quality of life scores in the patients with P <0.001. In CD, there was negative significant corre-index with P <0.001, but without endoscopic activity. There was no significant effect of inflammatory bowel disease on quality of life of the patients especially during disease activity.","PeriodicalId":17289,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Egyptian Society of Parasitology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81426127","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It causes significant economic losses due to morbidity, mortality, and therapy cost and decreased rates of development in affected calves. Multiple enteric pathogens are known to cause this disease including viruses, bacteria and parasites. Cryptosporidium spp. is a protozoan parasite usually responsible for gastrointestinal tract disease in human and calves. E. coli K99 was also in-criminated as one of the important causes of neonatal diarrhea. Corona viral infection could also cause diarrhea in newborn calves. Onehundredninety-eightfecalsamplescollectedfromdiarrhe-ic calves were tested with timmunochromatographic rapid test. Sixty one (30.8%) were po-sitive for different pathogens either as single infection or co-infection with two or more enteric pathogens. Cryptosporidium was the highest 20.2% (40/198), followed by E. coli K99 at 17.2% (34/198), then Rotavirus 9.1% (18/198) and only 2 samples were positive for Coronavirus (1%).","PeriodicalId":17289,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Egyptian Society of Parasitology","volume":"12 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86488674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

T. gondii neuro-tropic nature made it a potential causative agent for psychiatric and behavioral disorders. T. gondii uses a complicated mechanism to gain access to the brain, where it invades different brain cells, including astrocytes and neurons forming cysts. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) represents a neuropsychiatric alarm-ing concern due to its indefinite eti-opathogenesis among children. Depression as major depressive disorder (MDD) is a common and serious psychiatric illness that negatively affects feeling, thinking and acting. Owing to the high prevalence of toxoplasmosis and the increased incidence of ADHD and MDD in recent years, this review studied the relationship between toxoplasmosis and each of ADHD and MDD.","PeriodicalId":17289,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Egyptian Society of Parasitology","volume":"22 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86542863","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bacterial cholangitis is a potentially life-threatening complication. Management is based on antimicrobial therapy and surgical drainage. Bile cultures can play a role in determining the causative agent and optimizing antibiotic therapy. This study assessed the incidence of bacterial cholangitis among recipients of LDLT and evaluated the role of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in management of potential biliary infection. This study was conducted at Ain Shams Organ Transplantation Center between February 2019 and April 2022. The selected 39 LDLT recipients developed post-transplant cholangitis on top of biliary complications. Liver function tests, imaging, ERCP were performed in all patients. The results showed that incidence of biliary complications were 38.2%. Imaging and ERCP findings were consistent regarding the anastomotic stricture diagnosis. Stones were detected by ERCP in 12 patients when magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography detected them in only one patient. Significant improvement as regard inflammatory markers (CRP-Procalcitonin) ,liver enzymes and Total bilirubin before and after ERCP.","PeriodicalId":17289,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Egyptian Society of Parasitology","volume":"48 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89158030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
