Vitelline bundles were enveloped with fine fibrous layer surrounded with separ-ated circular muscle bands. Ultrastructural study showed that vitellocyte maturation comprised of increased extension of parallel cisternae of GER, increase in cell size and in the different phases increased numbers of pellets aggregation in clusters during vitellogenesis. In mature vitel-locytes, there were large numbers of various aggregations such as aggregation of pellets in clusters; the important portion in construction of egg shell and a number of unsaturated lipid droplets. This agreed with different phases of oocyte development in parasitic Platyhelminthes.","PeriodicalId":17289,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Egyptian Society of Parasitology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139192300","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Diagnosis cannot be completely confirmed by imaging and operative exploration. Endoscopic ultrasound elastography (EUS-EG) has a marked role in assessment of lymph nodes in HCC patients and optimizing their management accordingly. This study assessed diagnostic accuracy of EUS-EG in suspected lymph nodes in HCC potential candidates for living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) and identifued its role in diagnosis and staging of hepatocellular carcinoma. The study was conducted at the Tropical Medicine department, Ain Shams University, Ain Shams Center of Organ Transplantation (ASCOT) and Endoscopy Unit, Theodor Bilharz Research Institute between July 2018 & May2023. The patients 24 with HCC and abdominal lymphadenopathy were prepared for LDLT. Liver function tests, Positron emission tomography (PET) scan, EUS-EG, EUS-guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA). The results showed the prevalence of metastatic lymph nodes by EUS-FNA was 41.7%. EUS-EG and PET scan had same sensitivity of 80.0% in detecting metastatic lymph nodes. But, EUS-EG had a higher specificity 85.7% compared to 57.1% specificity of PET scan.","PeriodicalId":17289,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Egyptian Society of Parasitology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139194585","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study compared between growth patterns of different symptomatic Blastocystis subtypes. Morphometric measures of the vacuolar form of STs isolated from acute GIT symptomatic patients showed that major diversity in size ranged from 4.928±1.77 among ST4 to 70.54±29.66 among wild ST3. Size in chronic group was 4±0.816 in ST-4 and 40.83±7.359 in heterozygous ST3, and in intermittent group ranged from 5.5±0.707 in ST4 to 47.5±6.45 in heterozygous ST3 with significant differences. Phenotypic variations were commonly among inter-subtypes of ST3. Generation patterns in re-culturing were 24.1% of isolates at 5 th re-culturing and the 29.6% at 6 th re-culturing loss of 90% viable vacuolar form numbers compared to that on first culture. Low percenta ge (9.3%) reached to 9 th re-culture. Majority of ST-1 (40%) was lost at the 5 th re-culture while 58.8% of wild ST-3 was lost in the 7 th & 8 th , respectively, with 29.4% per each. Meanwhile, 66.6% of ST-4 was lost in the 5 th & 6 th , respectively, with 33.3% per each, but without significant difference. As to metronidazole ® susceptibility, the majority of ST1, wild ST3, heterozygous ST3 and ST4 isolates gave 60%, 58.7%, 57.2% & 79.9% sensitivity.","PeriodicalId":17289,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Egyptian Society of Parasitology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139189375","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dog feces can be a source of intestinal parasites. This study investigated the prevalence of Toxocara canis infection in stray dogs in the Tabuk Region in northwest Saudi Arabia. Eggs were discovered using the sedimentation flotation method in the feces of stray dogs, and they were recognized using DNA sequencing and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Out of the 200 fecal samples that were randomly obtained from public places, the Tabuk region's west (an agricultural area) showed the highest prevalence of eggs (7.5%). The molecular approaches for identification of this parasite are sensitive sufficient to distinguish be-tween the various T. canis in feces and to detect low parasite levels. Due to Saudi Arabia's ineffective environmental hygiene controls, the comparatively high prevalence of this parasite may continue to rise. This study accurately identified T. canis in dogs in Tabuk Region by a new technique, eliminating the possibility of misdiagnosis by traditional fecal microscopy.","PeriodicalId":17289,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Egyptian Society of Parasitology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139189951","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study evaluated the effect of an-educational program on knowledge and practice of nurses caring for nephritis children. A quasi-experimental design was utilized on 57 pediatric nurses caring for nephritis syndrome children. Two tools were utilized for data collection; self-administered questionnaire sheet included personal characteristics of pediatric nurses, knowledge, and observational checklist for evaluation the nursing practices of children. The results showed that majority of them had unsatisfactory knowledge and inadequate practice about nephritis syndrome before program implementation. This was significantly improved in immediate and 3 months after program implementation, with a positive correlation between nurses' knowledge, age and years of experience, also between nurses' practice, age, pediatric year and general experience.","PeriodicalId":17289,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Egyptian Society of Parasitology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139194664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The incomplete efficacy of the approved drugs for the chronic Toxoplasma gondii infections endangers one-third of the global humans and animals with reactivation. This is due to the risky complications chronic toxoplasmosis causes. This study evaluated the TLRs 7/8 agonist, Resiquimod ® for treating chronic toxoplasmosis in BALB/c mice infected with the ME49 strain of T. gondii as compared the traditionally used Py-rimethamine ® & Sulphadiazine ® . This was judged by the number of brain cysts, the histpatholo-gical degrees in the brain and retina, expression of the apoptotic marker, caspase-3 compared to negative and positive controls. The results showed a statistically significant decrease in the number of brain cysts in resiq-uimod-treated mice correlated with the histopathological improvement of brain and retina and apoptosis.","PeriodicalId":17289,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Egyptian Society of Parasitology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139194848","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
