For example, machine-tomachine solutions for utility billing and management are now possible using cellular networks. With many homes now supporting different communication capabilities it has become relatively easy to deploy ubiquitous devices (sensors) and services for any number of different applications. This is already practical where probing the home network often uncovers services not necessarily known beforehand, i.e. universal plug-n-play devices like cable modems provide passive interactive services. Invisible services like these are set to accelerate as more networked devices form part ofthe home itself. Consequently, there will be a need to visualise available devices or services in order to allow users to better exploit the functions they provide. In this paper we embark on such an approach whereby a visualisation tool is placed over home networks to help achieve this. In this way devices can be seen irrespective of how invisible technology becomes, providing better exploitation of the services they provide. A successful case study is presented to demonstrate the applicability of our approach.","PeriodicalId":172400,"journal":{"name":"2010 7th IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-01-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125422888","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the usage of on-node processing, the lifetime of the sensor nodes can be extended as raw data does not need to be sent out and logged by an external device. In this paper we present our approach for on-node processing of ECG signals to signal abnormal heart rate conditions. We develop an algorithm that is significantly simpler than traditional approaches but has similar quality and that can run on sensors with very limited resources. We give results of our approach when applied to reference sequences. We also estimate the amount of information that gets transmitted over the wireless link in case of applying the on-node processing algorithm and compare it with the remote logging case. We propose fusing movement information with ECG data to provide a more accurate assessment of the patients current health.","PeriodicalId":172400,"journal":{"name":"2010 7th IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-01-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125948980","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the central limit theorem, such interference is usually (near) Gaussian distributed [1,2]. Recently, it has been shown that for frequency/time hopping CDMA with single-user demodulation/decoding at the receiver, one can intentionally create appropriate non-Gaussian multi-user interference that allows increasing the capacity up to five times when compared to CDMA with Gaussian MUI [3,4]. \u0000 \u0000This paper considers the impact of direct sequence (DS) spreading on the capacity increases for CDMA with non-Gaussian MUI. First, appropriate channel models are constructed for non-Gaussian DS CDMA when traditional single-user matched filter demodulator is used as well as when the optimal single-user CDMA receiver is used. The obtained numerical capacity results show that the non-Gaussian CDMA capacity gains can be realized with appropriate CDMA receiver.","PeriodicalId":172400,"journal":{"name":"2010 7th IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-01-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129327563","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is an important problem how to select the transmission rate so that the throughput is maximized. In a wireless mesh network (WMN), nodes are stationary placed in general. The characteristic of each link will not change significantly over relatively long time. It is effective to assign fixed transmission rate which achieves the best transmission performance at each link while link quality does not change significantly. There are two of for fixed transmission rate assignment schemes. One type assigns a transmission rate at each link (link-fixed), and the other assigns it at each node (node-fixed). In this paper, we propose a novel node-fixed transmission rate assignment scheme. Our proposed scheme tries to increase throughput on the condition that the network connectivity of all nodes in the WMN is kept. We evaluate the proposed scheme by experimental measurement using our testbed. Compared with the scheme that the same transmission rate is assigned to all nodes, our proposed scheme can improve the minimum throughput although the average throughput of both schemes is almost the same.","PeriodicalId":172400,"journal":{"name":"2010 7th IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-01-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121276565","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mobile Nodes (MNs) in the MANET employ multi-hop relaying techniques to exchange messages. These MNs are not globally reachable by nodes in the Internet. Integrating Mobile IP version 6 (MIPv6) protocol with MANETs opens the gates for providing Internet connecCivity to the MNs. Securing the integrated MANET and MIPv6 architecture is challenging. In this paper, we propose and describe a secure multi-hop MIPv6 registration schemf in the MANET -MIPv6 integrated architecture. In the mobile networking environment, a host should be able to change its locator when it moves from one network to another, while keeping the host or session ID fixed. Thus, to provide inherent mobility support in the future Internet, which we call the New Generation Network, we propose HIMALIS (Heterogeneity Inclusion and Mobility Adaptation through Locator ID Separation) architecture. HIMALIS uses separate namespaces for host IDs and locators. It includes a new naming scheme for generating host names and IDs. It uses a logical control network to store and distribute bindings among host names, IDs and locators for supporting mobility. We verify the basic functions of the architecture by implementing and testing it in a testbed system.","PeriodicalId":172400,"journal":{"name":"2010 7th IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-01-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127066537","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our protocol is an extension to our previous routeless protocol SCWRR. It uses nodes' mobility as an advantage to bypass trapped packets over networks holes. It does not require any prior knowledge of neighbors' locations. It only requires the locations sources and destinations which can be known reactively. The simulation results show that our protocol is able to avoid obstacles and holes to some extend.
