However, existing ACNP training programs, including at our institution, often lack robust relevant course content. To address this educational gap, we designed and implemented a pilot acute care radiology course, incorporating a flipped classroom approach and hands-on simulation activities led by expert faculty. Our course evaluation revealed high levels of student satisfaction, self-reported confidence, and perceived course effectiveness. The course aligns with key competencies outlined by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, demonstrating its potential to advance ACNP education in radiology content.</p>","PeriodicalId":17179,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139912872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During simulation, students may receive feedback from multiple sources, including standardized patients (SPs), faculty, peers, and themselves. Although evidence supports simulation with multisource feedback, its impact on clinical knowledge and communication has yet to be evaluated among NP students. We designed, implemented, and evaluated a preclinical simulation program with structured multisource feedback integrated into a disease management course within a Doctor of Nursing Practice curriculum. Differences in communication self-efficacy and disease management knowledge before and after participation, as well as perceptions of learning and importance of varying feedback sources, were evaluated using a single group pre-post mixed-methods design. On average, clinical communication self-efficacy was significantly higher, and disease management knowledge scores were significantly higher after participation. Learners rated feedback sources as important or very important and described varying feedback sources as complementary. Feedback from SPs, peers, learners themselves, and faculty was complementary and important to learning. This preclinical simulation program with purposeful integration of multisource feedback provides an evidence-based foundation for scaffolding multidomain competency development into curriculums to meet updated standards of advanced nursing education.</p>","PeriodicalId":17179,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2024-02-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139912873","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, few dedicated award recognition programs exist for advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), and no available literature evaluates the impact on professional practice, sense of belonging, and job retention or satisfaction. The purpose of this study was to introduce a novel award recognition program for APRNs and physician associates (PAs) in a large academic medical system and evaluate it's impact on job satisfaction, retention, and sense of belonging. Five awards were created to recognize areas of achievement for clinically practicing APRNs or PAs within an academic health system. Nomination letters were collected, deidentified, and reviewed by an award committee. Winners were announced and received a plaque. A survey was sent to employed APRNs evaluating their response to the program. The survey was sent to both APRNs (83%) and PAs (17%). Survey end points included job satisfaction, willingness to stay in role for 1 and 5 years, sense of community, something to work toward, and increasing recognition of APRNs. Results showed statistical significance in three areas. Advanced practice registered nurses or PAs who were aware of award opportunities and/or nominated for an award showed higher job satisfaction, more likely to stay in job for 1 year, and felt a greater level of recognition. Dedicated APRN award programs may have a positive impact on job satisfaction and retention. This model may be extrapolated to provide greater opportunities for meaningful recognition among clinical APRNs.</p>","PeriodicalId":17179,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2024-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138830177","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Affected individuals are unable to metabolize cholesterol due to inherited changes in the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor, which impairs the ability to metabolize cholesterol, resulting in extremely high levels of cholesterol that leads to premature coronary artery disease. Autosomal dominant FH is caused by variants in several genes, which may present as heterozygous FH (less severe) or homozygous FH (more severe). Clinical diagnosis may be more likely when there is a family history of two or more first-degree relatives with total and LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C) level elevations, a child is identified, or the affected individual or close relatives have tendon xanthomas and/or progressive atherosclerosis. This article provides an overview of autosomal dominant FH, including disease prevalence, clinical diagnostic criteria, genetic variants, diagnostic testing, pathognomonic findings, and treatment options. It also shares a brief case, which highlights challenges associated with genetic test interpretation and the importance of including experienced providers in the diagnosis and treatment of this underdiagnosed and often untreated or undertreated genetic condition.</p>","PeriodicalId":17179,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2024-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"10448246","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
