Phytossociological surveys were made in vegetation patches in the region, where a total of 332 20x20cm quadrats were launched in 10m transects. The five most frequent species in the samples were selected and their data are presented in this work. To check the most frequent species in the samples the index of ecological significance (IES) was used. The most important species were Deschampsia antarctica Desv. and Colobanthus quitensis (Kunth) Bartl the only one angiosperms occurring in Antarctica. Sanionia uncinata (Hedw.) Loeske Politrichastrum alpinum (Hedw.) G.L.Sm. and Syntrichia magellanica (Mont.) R.H. Zander. were the most representative moss species. The data of ecological significance of these species were compared to previous results in order to evaluate the changes in the vegetation in 10 year long-time monitoring.","PeriodicalId":169975,"journal":{"name":"INCT-APA Annual Activity Report","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123348685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Benthic organisms, especially of the macroand meiobenthic, constitute the associated fauna of the phytal kelps. Himantothallus grandifolius is the most prominent Antarctic kelp species. It is usually found in the Antarctic Peninsula Islands of the Maritime Antarctic region, despite the ecological importance of associated fauna. e present work has the objective to evaluate qualitatively and quantitatively the macrofauna phytal of the H. grandifolius collected in February 2011 at Mackelar inlet (Admiralty Bay), with special focus on taxonomic determination of the associated Isopods fauna. Preliminary results showed that the dominant faunal group was Amphipods (n = 1776), followed by Ectoprocta (n = 496). Isopods occurred in fewer density (n = 207 ind.) and so far have been identi ed at the following family level (Gnathiidae, Munnidae, Plakarthidae, Jaeropsidae , Sphaeromathidae and Janiridae).","PeriodicalId":169975,"journal":{"name":"INCT-APA Annual Activity Report","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116255264","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While the rst buildings constructed in Antarctica were usually used for short periods of permanence and had reduced comfort, the increased interest in the continent associated to new technologies has resulted in major improvements in the quality of housings. is advancement raised questions related to the new constructions: the concern with the environment and the consequences of the presence of man in the region. e aim of this research was to describe the architectural production in di erent periods and classify these buildings according to their speci c characteristics. Because the present work is a research typically based on literature, the methodology used sought to investigate documents, books, articles and journals and, additionally, to obtain information from the various reference Antarctic Programs. Importantly, the analysis of what is built in Antarctica represents also an assessment of the socio-political context of Nations that occupy the continent. As a result, buildings were classi ed according to the construction period and were inserted in the context of the division into historical, environmental and technological times.","PeriodicalId":169975,"journal":{"name":"INCT-APA Annual Activity Report","volume":"34 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116486375","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this report, we present the results of the 2009/2010 monitoring program regarding the phytoplankton composition during the PROANTAR XVIII operation. The community was dominated by both planktonic and benthic diatoms. A total of 140 species were found, many of them awaiting further morphological studies to determine their specific identity. A preliminary assessment of habitat preferences was made, showing that the diatoms in the Admiralty Bay came from distinct substrates like ice, rocks, sediments, plankton and macroalgae. These results indicate that benthic microalgae, particularly diatoms, play an important role in primary productivity of the pelagic community in inshore waters. The next steps will be to refine identification to analyse the whole water samples and to relate the results with the environmental and hydrographical features in Admiralty Bay.","PeriodicalId":169975,"journal":{"name":"INCT-APA Annual Activity Report","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130229186","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this scenario, the technologies employed in energy systems and sewage treatment play an important role and contribute with the development of more efficient and sustainable buildings. The aim of this research was to identify and systematize the technologies adopted by referential buildings for energy systems and wastewater treatment plants. The adopted methodology started from the previous selection of six buildings located at sites environmentally differentiated and built in the last decade. As a result, summary charts were prepared with the main features of the systems adopted, being noticeable a trend for the reuse of grey water and adoption of energy from renewable sources concomitant to traditional systems with fossil fuel generators.","PeriodicalId":169975,"journal":{"name":"INCT-APA Annual Activity Report","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133579144","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Considering this fact we studied the main vectors and pathways of potential introductions in the King George Island. ree main areas of human activities were considered: tourism, shing and scienti c research. We conducted a literature review and a survey of statistical data on sites of human activities in Antarctica. We observed that the transport of people and goods by human activities increased during the period under analysis. e places most visited by tourists on King George Island were scienti c stations. e routes taken by several types of cruises departed mainly from ports located in Chile and Argentina. So, there is a greater likelihood of possible introductions of alien species from southern South America. e scienti c stations Bellingshausen, President Eduardo Frei and Henryk Arctowski are the oldest in operation; they must be targets of investigation for a possible presence of non-native species, since time and human activities are essential factors in the processes of bioinvasion. e increase of licensed vessels and trawlers on King George Island, also enhances the risk of possible introductions of species in the marine environment. erefore, this study is important to make inferences about the presence of introduced species besides contributing to avoid possible future introductions in the Antarctic marine environment.","PeriodicalId":169975,"journal":{"name":"INCT-APA Annual Activity Report","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132405591","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Antarctic areas, the mapping gives importance to registry of the land cover of plants in ice-free areas. e maps are tools to understand the dynamics of plants in those areas. e Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is an important tool to reach this objective, such as the plotting of georeference points in any place in the world including Antarctic locations. is study aims to contribute to the research of mapping in ice-free areas making a comparison with map builds for Hennequin Point and Keller Peninsula at King George Island, Antarctica. e study was carried out using GNSS L1/L2 and L1 receivers to record points in ice-free areas with plant coverage and post processing using speci c so ware. e post processed data were exported to CAD so ware. With the points plotted, they were connected using polylines to draw the vegetation patches. e maps obtained were overlapped to identify the growth or retraction between the patches. e resulting maps are presented. e results show di erences between the patches sampled during di erent polar years. Probably, these divergences are due to the di erent methodologies used to obtain the points in these areas.
