With rapid development of construction content and scale for China grid and with frequent appearance for worse severe weather in recent years, galloping accidents of iced conductors are becoming more frequent in China, which has caused severe economic losses and social impacts. The statistic data is collected based on historical records about galloping accidents in nearly 20 years in China. And the statistic results are presented by probability statistic methods, which includes statistical characteristics of structural parameters for transmission lines,different ices coated on the conductors, different meteorological conditions (wind, rain, snow, temperature and humidity etc.) and different damages caused by galloping when galloping accidents take place. Using dimensional analysis, the major parameters to influence galloping accidents occurrence are proposed and the statistic relations between relevant parameters and galloping occurrence are derived. And based on the new characteristics, changes for galloping accidents occurrence in time domain and areal distribution are proposed to obtain the new trend for transmission lines galloping in China. The results and conclusions in this paper can provide a research direction and data support for galloping theoretical analyses and anti-galloping design.","PeriodicalId":169553,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Power System Technology","volume":"22 8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129184746","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among various controllable reactor schemes, the magnetic saturation type controllable reactor is remarkable for its low cost and low footprint. According to the direction of flux, which is generated by control winding, the magnetic saturation type controllable reactor can be categorized into two types: Magnetically Controlled Reactor (MCR) and orthogonal-flux type controllable reactor. In this paper, the orthogonal flux controllable reactor will be presented. Firstly, the basic concept of orthogonal flux type controllable reactor is introduced and the magnetizing behaviors under different DC magnetizing strength are deduced. Secondly, the mathematic model of the orthogonal flux controllable reactor is established by using Matlab/Simulink. Finally, the performance of the designed controllable reactor is analyzed based on the model.","PeriodicalId":169553,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Power System Technology","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125343307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the Penghu system represents a weak-grid characteristic, and the reactive power produced by the 59-km submarine cable connecting Taiwan and Penghu is high, which brings a severe challenge on the wind power integration. Therefore, in the initial planning phase, it is necessary to perform various system impact analyses, including the computations on steady-state power flows, fault currents, and transient stability. In terms of the stability analyses, this paper has focused on the impact of system faults on wind farms, the effects of wind speed fluctuation and wind farm trips on the system. This study utilized PSS/E software as a simulation tool. The results would provide significant references to the Penghu offshore wind farm project.","PeriodicalId":169553,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Power System Technology","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126234821","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Interval Programming method has its unique advantage in uncertainty problem which caused by the volatile nature of wind power generation. The bounds of uncertainty parameters are the only information needed which could be acquired conveniently. A day-ahead unit commitment mathematical model is established by interval mixed-integer programming method, in which the uncertainty wind power generation is represented by a functional interval. In the process of solving interval mixed-integer programming problem, the optimal model is firstly divided into two deterministic mix-integer programming sub-problems with the parameters expressed as constants. These two sub-problems are solved in turn. Then, the interval solutions of the model can be constructed by the solutions of two sub- problems. The case based on IEEE 30-bus system is studied. It can be proved that the model proposed in this paper is universally adaptable in day-ahead generation scheduling, and it shows that the algorithm is effective and the result is feasible.","PeriodicalId":169553,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Power System Technology","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121441878","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The energy storage used in this paper is a battery bank. It comprises a combination between shunt and series battery cells in order to implement a sufficient battery storage system. To verify the simulated battery storage system, one day operation of an electric power distribution system was tested. This simulation was performed using MATLAB software in order to support and also to balance the energy exchange between the generation (drawn from both substation and renewable energy plants) and the power demand of the entire system. With the energy storage plant of battery banks, a simple 6-bus test system with a total power generation of 6 MW is situated for test. Considering of four test cases (case 1: without energy storage installation and neglecting power losses, case 2: without energy storage installation but considering power losses, case 3: with energy storage installation but power losses neglected, case 4: with energy storage installation and also considering power losses). Power transmission losses used in this paper can be determined by using Newton-Raphson power flow solution method. The simulation of the test system was carried out by performing one day simulation with energy storage and energizing stored energy by using an appropriate algorithm. The results showed that the system with energy storage can lead to efficient energy usage and power loss reduction.","PeriodicalId":169553,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Power System Technology","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116089957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The thyristor control unit (TCU) and snubber circuit are optimized for a high reliability and low loss of thyristor valves. Two 12-pulse converters are connected in series as one converter per pole. The converters use a double valve MVU structure. A careful designed rigorous type test program has been followed to verify the valve and converter design. A single valve is comprehensively dielectric type tested and operational type tested. High voltage valve hanging structure, low voltage valve hanging structure and MVU, plus the series connected valve simulator, are valve supporting structure dielectric tested and MVU dielectric tested. And then describes the two inverter control methods including the voltage source inverter control method and the power type PWM inverter control method which are common used at present. Based on the above two kinds of inverter control methods, the second step is to present an improved PWM inverter control system that can be applied in grid-connected PV generation. Finally, it constructs a single-phase grid-connected PV generation system, and uses MATLAB/Simulink software to simulate and analyze.
