This document is a milestone on the path to a Eurocode for membrane structures. First time it provides unified design rules harmonized among many experts in the field across Europe. It covers coated and uncoated fabrics as well as foils, mechanically as well as pneumatically prestressed structures. Ultimate and serviceability limit state approaches are based on the concepts of EN 1990. The new standard gives the frame for materials and their requirements, static verification of materials and connections, and it defines required experimental tests. It is also planned to provide execution rules together with the design rules in order to ensure reliable and safe membrane structures. This contribution gives an overview of the new standard and shows the approaches by means of examples.","PeriodicalId":168532,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Symposium, Prague 2022: Challenges for Existing and Oncoming Structures","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131516614","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All members were subjected to compression and major axis bending induced by an eccentricity of the compressive load. The loading eccentricities for the tests varied to provide a wide range of bending moment-to-axial load ratios. The experimental program covers ordinary-welded and laser-welded I-section specimens made of stainless steel. Material tensile coupon tests and initial geometric imperfection measurements are also described in detail. Measurements of initial imperfections were performed using two different methods, using a mechanical dial and laser scanning. The test results were subsequently used for a validation of a finite element (FE) model, developed in ABAQUS software to replicate the beam-column behaviour. The accuracy of the models with the two combinations of local and global imperfections were evaluated by comparison with the test results.","PeriodicalId":168532,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Symposium, Prague 2022: Challenges for Existing and Oncoming Structures","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131553894","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The correlation between punching and flexural-punching failure modes is examined. The models are calibrated to simulate the punching shear failure of reinforced concrete flat slabs under vertical monotonic loading and a constant gravity load in combination with monotonic unbalanced moment using a smeared concrete model, denoted as Concrete Damage Plasticity (CDP). In this regard, previously tested slab-column connections with various reinforcement ratios are selected from literature. The numerical outcomes are validated in terms of load-deflection (or moment-deflection) curves. The comparison between test and numerical results shows that the numerical analyses using the CDP model can accurately predict the rotation and punching capacity along with the failure mode of the slabs. As a parametric investigation, the FEM is utilised to characterise further the failure process of slabs with reinforcing ratios varied from 0.2% to 2%. The numerical results are compared with predictions from the design code ACI 318-19 and the Critical Shear Crack Theory.","PeriodicalId":168532,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Symposium, Prague 2022: Challenges for Existing and Oncoming Structures","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132885560","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, a large number of continuous bridge deck structures appear in practiacl bridge engineering. Prominent problems such as vulnerability and poor durability restrict its further promotion and application, and some even turn to \"first structure is simply supported, then structure is continuous\", which increases a large number of on-site construction and reduces the efficiency of prefabrication; especially when used in composite structure bridges. It also causes the problem of cracking control of the bridge slab concrete in the negative bending moment area of the continuous beam. Aiming at this engineering pain point, this paper proposes a new type of continuous structure of simply supported steel-concrete composite beam bridge deck. In order to study the static performance of the continuous bridge deck structure, this research designs a full- scale I-shaped segment test model and conducts a numerical analysis on it. The calculation results are compared with the full bridge model to verify its feasibility, preparing for a follow-up test.","PeriodicalId":168532,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Symposium, Prague 2022: Challenges for Existing and Oncoming Structures","volume":"160 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133136938","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sets generated are used as seismic input to bidirectional inelastic time history analyses of circular cross-section reinforced concrete single column piers. It is shown that the traditional approach of separately matching each horizontal component to the target RotD100 generate peak inelastic and total strain energy demands that are substantially larger than the demands imposed by sets of amplitude-scaled records. However, the sets generated by simultaneously modifying both components to direct match RotD100 provoked mean peak inelastic responses closer to the amplitude-scaled sets while reducing the variability in the estimates.","PeriodicalId":168532,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Symposium, Prague 2022: Challenges for Existing and Oncoming Structures","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127197981","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These systems are devoid of location details of distress and are reactive in regard to deterioration and risk models as they rely on such changes in ratings for interventions. Incorporating photogrammetric geospatial 3D drawing/model will bring critical hereto missing data to enhance effectiveness and efficiency of IBMS/UBMS. This paper is aimed to present a concept for adding geospatial details to IBMS/UBMS. This incorporation enables the usage of AI and machine learning for improved decision making and reporting. A large part of the public road network in old city centres is still formed by masonry arch bridges. The general question of the local authorities is “can masonry arch bridges withstand motorised traffic including busses and occasionally heavy trucks?” Nonlinear finite element analysis in PLAXIS is applied for the assessment of the failure behaviour of the structure and its limits related to cracking and failure loading. A proof-loading of a real bridge increased the reliability of the calculation methodology. To assess a large group of single span masonry arch bridges, suggestions for a risk-based approach are made.","PeriodicalId":168532,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Symposium, Prague 2022: Challenges for Existing and Oncoming Structures","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125851786","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A design of the heat sink unit of thermoelectric energy harvesters was parametrically analyzed using FE models. Prototype thermoelectric energy harvesters were fabricated and tested in a simple wind tunnel. The experiment was carried out on a concrete bridge. The concrete bridge accumulated thermal energy from sunlight, and the temperature difference with the air occurred. The thermal energy was harvested especially in daytimes. On the other hand, electric power was less generated at night-times than expected. The harvesting energy would be significantly improved if the problem is solved.","PeriodicalId":168532,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Symposium, Prague 2022: Challenges for Existing and Oncoming Structures","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125930670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
