So, a field trial was conducted to assess the potential of seaweed extract (SWE) as a natural substitute for CPPU in compensating for its role. Foliar spraying with both SWE (0, 2, and 4 mg L -1 ) and CPPU (0, 50, and 100 mg L -1 ) was carried out either individually or in all combination. The evaluation included the assessment of vegetative growth performance, flowering traits, yield, and fruit quality. Results indicated that spraying SWE at the highest concentration (4 mg L -1 ) demonstrated significant positive effects in all the studied characteristics. Similarly, CPPU at the highest concentration (100 mg L -1 ) when applied as a foliar spray individually exhibited significant positive impacts on all studied traits. Furthermore, combining SWE at 4 mg L -1 with CPPU at 100 mg L -1 resulted in significant increases in most of the studied parameters. In conclusion, the findings suggest the potential use of foliar spraying with SWE as an effective alternative to CPPU for enhancing squash growth performance and yield in arid regions.","PeriodicalId":16839,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Plant Production","volume":"308 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140458524","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The monogenic lines were evaluated at Sakha, Kafrelhamam and Sids Stations while parents, F 1 and F 2 were evaluated at Sakha. The results showed that genotypes carrying Yr5, Yr8, Yr10, Yr15, Yr27, Yr33, Yr37, Yr51, Yr57 , YrKK and YrALD yellow rust resistance genes recorded resistance to Puccinia striiformis tritici pathotypes at all locations. All the crosses between the monogenic lines carrying Yr8, Yr15 and Yr27 genes recorded resistant field response while, most crosses including Yr34 and Yr57 showed susceptibility. High estimates for genetic variance and broad sense heritability were obtained for all crosses indicating that selection to yellow resistance would be practiced in segregating generations. The highest number of resistant F 2 plants was recorded in crosses of Yr15 to any of the four susceptible wheat cultivars. Based on this study, the efficiency of genes can be arranged in the order of Yr15 ˃ Yr8 ˃ Yr27 ˃ Yr57 with Misr-1 and Misr-2 background and Yr15 ˃ Yr27 ˃ Yr8 ˃ Yr57 ˃ Yr34 with Gemmeiza-11 and Shandaweel-1 background. Therefore, it is recommended to introduce and pyramid Yr8 , Yr15 , Yr27 and Yr57 yellow rust resistance genes in the national wheat breeding program for yellow rust genetic control. The selected F 2 plants from this study can be used to create genetic diversity and obtain high yielding wheat germplasm carrying these effective genes.","PeriodicalId":16839,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Plant Production","volume":"237 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140468001","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Four replications of a split-plot design were carried out, the main plots were included three irrigation intervals i.e. , irrigation every 20, 30 and 40 days and the ten bread wheat cultivars i.e. , Giza171, Sakha 95, Sids14, Misr 3, Giza 168, Misr 2, Gemmeiza 11, Sakha 94, Shandweel 1 and Gemmeiza 12 were placed in sub-plots. Irrigation intervals every 20 days recorded the highest significant values of all the studied characters except for grain protein percentage and water use efficiency that recorded highest values by irrigation intervals every 40 days in the two growing seasons. Misr 3 cultivar recorded the highest 1000-grain weight, number of spikes/m 2 , grain weight/spike, grain and biological yields/fad in the two seasons. While, Gemmeiza 11 generated the tallest spike and the highest protein content in the grain during the two seasons. Irrigation Misr 3 every 20 days produced the highest spike/m 2 , biological yields and grain yield per fad in the second season. While irrigating Gemmeiza 11 and Shandweel 1 every 20 days resulted in the best water consumption use in the two seasons. Finally, a positive correlation and significant relationships were detected between grain yield/fad and all yield attributes. It could be concluded that growing Misr 3 cultivar with irrigation every 20 days can achieve high grain yield and water use efficiency under middle delta zone conditions.","PeriodicalId":16839,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Plant Production","volume":"155 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140469960","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
