The principle idea is to modify the extrinsic information between the component decoders to eliminate the effect of error propagation between the decoders, depending on the channel conditions between the source, the relay and the destination nodes in terms of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) per bit. The performance of this decoder is compared with the performance of an iterative decoder proposed in the literature which is called normal iterative decoder (NID) in this paper and does not take into account the decoding errors at the relay, by simulation. The comparison shows that the IID outperforms the NID when the source-relay channel is bad with low SNR, thus yielding lots of decoding errors at the relay.","PeriodicalId":167119,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125676718","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While LMMSE-IC can be rigorously derived and analyzed when it is based on LEXTPRs, things become more complicated when it relies on LAPPRs. The aim of this paper is twofold: (1) Emphasize the underlying assumptions needed for the derivation of (iterative) LAPPR based LMMSE-IC, (2) Propose an improved performance prediction method (or physical layer abstraction) robust when these assumptions do not hold. The latter contribution is a cornerstone for cross-layer design and optimization in presence of advanced turbo receivers in 3GPP.","PeriodicalId":167119,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127940044","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For such systems to be economically practical, each node participating in the large-scale link likely has limited transmit power capability, and therefore properly limiting the per-node transmit power must be incorporated into the signal processing algorithm. This work generalizes an iterative beamforming algorithm for multiuser MIMO signaling, subject to such a per-node power constraint, that can accommodate nonlinear precoding and detection. Simulations using the algorithm for large-scale MIMO systems reveal that the approach can offer performance similar to that obtained with a more traditional sum-power constraint without the wide range of per-antenna transmit power distribution typical of such a constraint.","PeriodicalId":167119,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"09 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130458839","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Generalized-K channel is versatile model which is capable of representing different levels of shadowing and multipath fading effects in the wireless environment. In this paper, we investigate outage and symbol error rate performance of the PLNC system consisting of two sources and one relay with one transmit/receive antenna in each node. Amplify and forward relaying method is used at the relay. More specifically, we utilize the moment generating function of the SNR which is obtained by the Padé approximation to evaluate the system performance. We also investigate the energy allocation problem to improve the system error performance by allocating the total energy optimally among the sources and the relay in different channel conditions. The analytical results are verified by Monte Carlo simulations.","PeriodicalId":167119,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133975618","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the prominently theoretical works on this topic are based on several crucial assumptions about the wireless channel which have not been sufficiently validated by measurements. In this paper, we report on an outdoor measurement campaign with a scalable virtual antenna array consisting of up to 112 elements. The large amount of acquired data allows us to study several important aspects of large-scale MIMO systems. For example, we partially confirm the theoretical results based on uncorrelated channels which predict that the channels at different positions become more and more orthogonal as the number of antennas grows. However, for the measured channels, the marginal gain of an additional antenna quickly diminishes. Nevertheless, our results indicate that most of the theoretical benefits of large-scale MIMO could be realized also over the measured channels.","PeriodicalId":167119,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134178399","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Indeed, the transmitted data symbols in FBMC are OQAM (Offset QAM) modulated, and the received data symbols are corrupted by inherent interference terms which complicate the detection in a maximum likelihood (ML) sense in the spatial multiplexing scheme. Detection schemes with ISI estimation and cancellation are not always effective due to the error propagation. We propose in this paper to modify the conventional FBMC system by transmitting QAM data symbols instead of OQAM ones in order to reduce the inherent interference. Then, we propose a receiver based on ISI estimation and cancellation. A simple tentative detector is first used to attempt to cancel the ISI before applying the ML detection. We show by simulation that with the proposed FBMC/QAM system, the ISI cancellation is effective and the performance converges to the optimum one.","PeriodicalId":167119,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127587908","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The testbed uses XTend RF Modules at 900MHz, with 1 mW transmission power, and covers an area of 11,000 m2. Results show that the testbed has propagation characteristics difficult to reproduce in testbeds present in the literature. Experiments demonstrate testbed performance regarding path loss, average packet loss and number of duplicates. Despite poor performance of links in the network, percentage of successful packet reception in the sink node was 70%, using a controlled flooding protocol with 8 nodes. Testbed implemented is a real scenario for WSN applications where nodes are deployed randomly to cover a determined area. Given the radio employed, the testbed has the possibility of extending experiments to long range applications.","PeriodicalId":167119,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126586628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The focus of this investigation is on the downlink and the purpose of the cell association is to achieve better user fairness, in other words, to increase the minimum average user throughput (worst user throughput). In the proposed method, an appropriate cell association for all users within a cell is achieved in an iterative manner based on the feedback information of each individual user assisted by a small amount of broadcast information from the respective BSs. The proposed method does not require cooperation between BSs. Furthermore, the proposed method is applicable to cases of inter-cell interference coordination (ICIC) between macro and pico/femto BSs through the use of protected radio resources exclusively used by the pico/femto BSs. Based on numerical results, we show that the proposed method adaptively achieves better cell association for all users according to the user location distributions compared to the conventional cell range expansion (CRE) method. The advantage of the proposed method over the CRE is further enhanced in an ICIC scenario.","PeriodicalId":167119,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131097086","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It aims at providing a continuity of the positioning service through the use of GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems) signals, thus leading to a single technological mean, the GNSS receiver, for both outdoors and indoors. A few error sources have to be dealt with in order to reach sub-meter accuracy, among which one has to cite multipath and near-far effects. The goal of this paper is to describe the way we envisaged to reach an indoor sub-meter accuracy and the real implementation of the system. A few positioning results are also provided.","PeriodicalId":167119,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132925044","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
