We first investigate the multiplexing gain of such channel when users have perfect channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT) by exploiting an interference alignment scheme. In addition, we propose a quantized transmit beamforming vector feedback method for the interference alignment in the limited feedback system. On the basis of the proposed feedback framework, we analyze the rate gap loss and it is shown that in order to keep the same multiplexing gain with the case of perfect CSIT, the number of feedback bits per receiver should be increased linearly with the SNR in dB scale. Throughout the simulation results, it is shown that the sum-rate performance coincides with the derived results.","PeriodicalId":167119,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132737782","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The UHF EPC Class-1 Generation-2 (Gen2) protocol only specifies algorithms to avoid the collisions but makes no provision for their resolution. In this paper, performance enhancement of the RFID EPC Gen2 protocol exploiting Tag collision recovery is demonstrated, for the first time, in real time with measurements. Two simple and effective approaches to handle successful Tag acknowledgments of recovered collided packets are proposed and implemented on a software-defined Reader and programmable Tags. The overall throughput per time slot is increased by 72% over the standard Gen2 MAC scheme. The validity of such result is confirmed by the good agreement with simulations reported in the literature.","PeriodicalId":167119,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131410598","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The PU leases a portion of its spectrum to the SU to obtain revenue when its QoS is guaranteed, and the SU rents the spectrum to achieve its target data rate. This cooperative spectrum leasing problem is formulated as a Stackelberg game. The optimal strategy for the PU and SU on the pricing and spectrum renting is analyzed. Under this cooperative spectrum leasing scheme, both the PU and the SU improve their individual utility. This cooperative spectrum leasing scheme is a promising paradigm for both the PU and SU for its mutual benefit in cognitive radio systems.","PeriodicalId":167119,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115540668","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed method is applicable when some of the instantaneous channel state information (CSI) feedback between the user equipment and the respective BSs is missing if the path loss between the user equipment and BS is higher than a predetermined threshold. The proposed method alleviates the loss in the transmitter diversity (beam forming) gain caused by the perfect nulling of inter-user interference in BD. By allowing the inter-user interference from a link that has a high average path loss, the overall throughput performance of simple BD is enhanced. We show that the combination of layered transmission that restricts the set of BSs used for the signal transmission and adaptive control of interference admission significantly increases the throughput of BS cooperative multiuser MIMO with partial CSI feedback.","PeriodicalId":167119,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124181879","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Reliable position information, obtained with a reasonable complexity overhead and possibly low energy consumption, is necessary for a successful operation of these networks. The paper regards the analysis of the performance bounds of an approach for improving the trade-off between energy consumption and performance in a localization and tracking process. A set of fixed beacons is used for localizing a target that is moving in a limited environment and tracking is realized by mixing active signal transmissions, which allow using standard techniques for deriving distances and locations, as well as passive signal receptions, which exploit scattering caused by the target during signal propagation. Obviously, when the beacons exploit passive signal reflections, the target does not consume energy, differently from the steps characterized by the active exchange of radio signals. In the paper we present the analysis of the posterior Cramer-Rao Bound of this technique for a general scenario, highlighting the trade-offs between the energy savings and the performance costs in terms of localization error.","PeriodicalId":167119,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114902756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All automation requirements on network configuration, optimisation, and failure recovery are subsumed under the term Self-Organising Networks (SON). Within a SON a potentially larger number of SON-Functions individually perform specific management tasks. To prevent conflicting behaviour among different SON-Functions a SON-Coordinator is used that has to consider a variety of conflict types and the spatial and temporal impact of the SON-Functions. The Impact-time concept is composed of a set of time intervals describing the pair-wise temporal interdependency of SON-Functions, and also expressing restrictions in the availability of performance data. An experimental validation of the concept is presented.","PeriodicalId":167119,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116333724","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Even though analytical models are accurate, they often lack tractability and do not shed much light on the interplay between channel conditions, network parameters and transceiver characteristics. This paper exploits a recently introduced technique, which uses signal-to-noise ratios to characterise the modulation and coding scheme of transceivers for Rayleigh fading channels. Based on this technique, which allows decoupling of error probability analysis and radio specifications, we derive conditions on the adopted transmission scheme to ensure that cooperation improves the outage probability of each user in decode-and-forward networks with statistically similar or dissimilar uplink channels.","PeriodicalId":167119,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125937479","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the presence of frequency-selective channels, orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) is typically used to deal with the multipath nature of the channel. While IA techniques can be applied in a per-subcarrier basis (post-FFT), the existence of symbol timing offsets (STOs) between the desired and the interfering OFDM symbols decreases the system performance dramatically. To solve this problem, we design pre-FFT precoders and decoders for single-beam MIMO IFCs for OFDM transmissions. Since the IA decoders operate before the FFT, they mitigate the interference before synchronization takes place. We show that our proposed scheme improves the system performance when STOs occur, in comparison with traditional post-FFT IA techniques. We provide simulation results to compare post and pre-FFT beamforming techniques and to illustrate the performance of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":167119,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126133548","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
