However, very few attentions have been paid on mobile Web apps. Compared to native apps, the dynamic feature of Web apps poses some challenging issues for computation offloading. To address these issues, this paper presents a systematic approach for augmenting JavaScript-based mobile Web apps. Our approach proposes a programming abstraction to extract \"offload able\" computation-intensive portions for facilitating Web developers to define when an offloading can occur. We implement a browser-based offloading runtime service and deploy it as a front-end proxy on cloud, to automatically partition the Web apps afore the mobile devices. We demonstrate the efficiency of our approach with some typical computation-intensive Web apps across various high-end and low-end hardware specifications under Wi-Fi and cellular networks.","PeriodicalId":166267,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Mobile Services","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125157114","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, it is paramount to correctly predict the future movements of vehicles. Various position based routing algorithms attempt to tackle the routing problem, however, they fail to capture the dynamic movements of vehicles. In this paper, we propose a method that selects reliable intermediate node by utilizing the mobility information included in beacons to improve the routing problem.","PeriodicalId":166267,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Mobile Services","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121704631","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such public services already exist on the web and in cloud deployments, by implementing common web service standards. However, these services are described by mark-up languages, such as XML, that cannot be comprehended by non-specialists. Furthermore, the lack of common interfaces for related services makes discovery and consumption difficult for both users and software. The problem of service description, discovery, and consumption for the mobile cloud must be addressed to allow users to benefit from these services on mobile devices. This paper introduces our work on a mobile cloud service discovery solution, which is utilised by our mobile cloud middleware, Context Aware Mobile Cloud Services (CAMCS). The aim of our approach is to remove complex mark-up languages from the description and discovery process. By means of the Cloud Personal Assistant (CPA) assigned to each user of CAMCS, relevant mobile cloud services can be discovered and consumed easily by the end user from the mobile device. We present the discovery process, the architecture of our own service registry, and service description structure. CAMCS allows services to be used from the mobile device through a user's CPA, by means of user defined tasks. We present the task model of the CPA enabled by our solution, including automatic tasks, which can perform work for the user without an explicit request.","PeriodicalId":166267,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Mobile Services","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114787561","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Users can employ a wide range of services associated with mobile apps, such as entertainment, news, travel, and social networking. Unfortunately, the retrieval of information from multiple apps, services, or local resources can be time-consuming, costly, and inconvenient. This paper proposes a novel mobile mash up approach, referred to as brick-based, state-driven mobile service composition (BSMSC) to overcome these difficulties. BSMSC comprises two primary mechanisms: (1) Android-fragment-based service bricks, and (2) a state-driven linkage for composite Restful services, which supports one-shot service flow execution as well as stateful service flow execution. The proposed BSMSC approach makes it possible to assemble fully-fledged, reconfigurable mobile mash up applications.","PeriodicalId":166267,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Mobile Services","volume":"90 29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129848757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is important for the mobile services providers and information distributors to track the public concerns in order to understand their mobile users' interests better and present them more appropriate contents. This paper presents an analysis method of public concerns for a special kind of post (expandable post) in microblogging service, which can provides sufficient background information about an event by its attachments, e.g. A Web URL. We use expandable posts to reconstruct the topic space at the sentence level. The reposts are regarded as public concerns within the space. By this means, public concern tracking problem is transformed into analyzing the relationships between the reposts and their corresponding expandable contents in the topic space. The preliminary experiments on our dataset about H7N9 bird flu collected from Weibo.com, shows the effectiveness of our method.","PeriodicalId":166267,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Mobile Services","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134542295","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we design and implement a smart home service middleware (SHSM) to support service integration and intelligent service invocation. SHSM implements a hierarchical structure and a complete service management framework which effectively integrates and operates heterogeneous service resources. SHSM constructs a rule driven application trigger scheme to automate application workflow for smart space environment. We present some use cases that show the overall utilization of the middleware and discuss the practical application scenarios.","PeriodicalId":166267,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Mobile Services","volume":"181 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133876180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Illiterate people, without the assistance of literate individuals, cannot use such platforms. Applying user-centered requirements gathered in an Ethiopian context, this paper presents the design and development of a mobile money solution that targets illiterate people. Particular emphasis is given to how illiterate users deal with cash money in their everyday life and how such practices can be mapped into financial technology design. Given the ubiquity of mobile telephony in Africa, our solution is based on the widely available, relatively inexpensive and open source Android mobile web platform. The proposed system enables illiterate individuals to count money bills, while providing the facility to accept and make payments. In so doing, we provide an example of how a pervasive technology such as smartphones can empower a hitherto often neglected user category of illiterate users.","PeriodicalId":166267,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Mobile Services","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129531846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various mechanisms and tools are proposed to detect and mitigate privacy leaks. However, they rarely consider users' preferences and expectations. Users hold various expectations towards different mobile apps. For example, users can allow a social app to access their photos rather than a game app because it is beyond users' expectation when an entertainment app gets the personal photos. Therefore, we believe it is vital to understand users' privacy expectations to various mobile apps and help them to mitigate privacy risks in the smartphone accordingly. To achieve this objective, we propose and implement PriWe, a system based on crowd sourcing driven by users who contribute privacy permission settings of their apps in smartphones. PriWe leverages the crowd sourced permission settings to understand users' privacy expectation and provides app specific recommendations to mitigate information leakage. We deployed PriWe in the real world for evaluation. According to the feedbacks of 78 users from the real world and 382 participants from Amazon Mechanical Turk, PriWe can make proper recommendations which can meet participants' privacy expectation and are mostly accepted by users, thereby help them to mitigate privacy disclosure in smartphones.","PeriodicalId":166267,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Mobile Services","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134328538","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, personalized digital health and patient empowerment can become a reality only if the complex multisensory and multimodal data is processed within the patient context. Contextual processing of patient data along with personalized medical knowledge can lead to actionable information for better and timely decisions. We present a system called kHealth capable of aggregating multisensory and multimodal data from sensors (passive sensing) and answers to questionnaire (active sensing) from patients with asthma. We present our preliminary data analysis comprising data collected from real patients highlighting the challenges in deploying such an application. The results show strong promise to derive actionable information using a combination of physiological indicators from active and passive sensors that can help doctors determine more precisely the cause, severity, and control level of asthma. Information synthesized from kHealth can be used to alert patients and caregivers for seeking timely clinical assistance to better manage asthma and improve their quality of life.","PeriodicalId":166267,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Mobile Services","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127296912","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Software testing factory cloud testing platforms have provided Android developers with application testing services. Developers can conduct compatibility tests in various Android devices only by uploading test programs and scripts to the software testing factory cloud testing platforms. When numerous tests are simultaneously undertaken, the average test completion time increases. Therefore, this study proposes a resource monitoring and management service and an automated virtual machine (VM) monitoring mechanism for an Open Stack-based cloud testing platform. Through the use of the VM management and monitoring mechanism, users can ensure that all tests are effectively allocated to the VMs. Thus, the waiting time for users running tests is reduced, and the time required for manual management also decreases.","PeriodicalId":166267,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Mobile Services","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128401191","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
