It leads to increase the unintentional oil spills, which may induce serious disturbances in functioning of the natural marine ecosystem, especially when it interferes with other technical activities in the marine space. That fact contributes to increase the interest in searching of new research techniques to protect the natural ecosystem. Therefore, the main task of marine international organisations concentrates on the effective and rapid detection of oil spill and on the possibility of identifying oil pollutants as well as on origin of pollution. The purpose of the study is to characterise the oil belonging to the vessel engine lubricate oils. We analyse the stage results of investigations based on one of types of fluorescence spectroscopy, namely: synchronous spectra. To characterise the oil, the Aqualog Horiba spectrofluorometer was applied, which allows performing precise measurement in a short time. Based on the measured excitation-emission spectra, total synchronous fluorescence spectra for oil were obtained using various wavelength intervals. Total synchronous fluorescence spectra of petroleum substances allow finding wavelength interval typical for particular type of oil. This approach could allow obtaining of complex mixtures, such as oils, more efficient description. We discuss the total synchronous fluorescence spectra for engine oil (Marinol type) dissolved in n-hexane in various concentrations of oil as a possible tool proposed to oil type identification. We present changes and variation of the total synchronous fluorescence spectra for oil with various oil concentrations.","PeriodicalId":165563,"journal":{"name":"Journal of KONES. Main advantages of the new safety barrier include increased resistance to corrosion as well as easy transport and assembly directly on a road section being secured. Model tests were performed on a car of 900 kg weight allowing for carrying out the TB11 tests according to the EN 1317-2 standard. LS-DYNA software was applied for modelling, using the finite element method. The work presents the numerical test results, trajectory of vehicle movement after collision as well as the concrete barrier displacement. It also includes examples of stress in steel bars and joint coupling. Detailed assessing of simulation test results were made on the basis of ASI, THIV and PHD index. They were calculated on the basis of velocity and acceleration courses of selected car bodywork points. Numerical test results confirm the fact that this system meets the normative requirements. They allow for qualifying that system for B impact severity level and W4 working width. The results presented in the paper make the initial stage of the study and further calculations will be oriented towards a possibility of meeting the requirements for higher restraint levels.","PeriodicalId":165563,"journal":{"name":"Journal of KONES. In general, the system reliability parameters are functions of operands – physical values – like time to failure, time between failures, duration times of specific reliability or operational states, number of failures in a time interval (event frequencies). These values are easier to be determined by an expert – operator with long year experience – than probabilistic model parameters. It is suggested that they be used in elicitation, for example linguistic estimates of the shares of reliability system elements in the system failure frequency. The numerical – linguistic elicitation of these opinions was carried out, which turned out to be uncorrelated and not suitable for tuning the network. Data processing method was used with the appropriate adopted analytic hierarchy process (AHP) geometric scale and matrix approximation method evaluations (logarithmic least squares method). Correlation analyses were performed for received input and output data of network and error of data processing method was determined. The results are shown in the example of elicitation and data correlation analyses for tuning the reliability neural network of the ship propulsion system.","PeriodicalId":165563,"journal":{"name":"Journal of KONES. The ring is made of INCONEL alloy 617 material, which is based on nickel-chromium-cobalt-molybdenum alloy characterized by high strength and resistance to oxidation at high temperatures as 1100-1200°C. Square bar of dimensions 50x50 roll bending at half ring with a diameter of 1500 mm, an intermediate product is prepared for machining. The forming process is divided into two operation. The first operation is to pre-bending the rod. The second operation is to roll bending to the radius determined by the deflection. The article presents the map of reduced stress of HMH for two operations, obtained from the numerical simulation based on the finite element method. It also presents the load on the tools during the entire process. Physical tests were carried out on the device for roll bending steel profiles DURMA PBH 125. The article sets out the minimum allowances technology needed to complete half of the ring. A comparison of deviations, outside diameter of the ring, was resulting from the spring back in the study of physical and numerical simulations. We also compared the flatness deviation of the ring resulting in the research. The results of theoretical research have confirmed good agreement with physical examinations. An assumption was made that the Rail R–65 and railway wheel with flats are with unevenness. The aim of this investigation is to identify the contact forces resulting from the wheel/rail contact at the various defects. Rail track dynamics is described by finite element method, while soil and wagon dynamics is described by the discrete elements. The mathematical model is to assess physical and mechanical properties, roughness of wheel and rail surface, and their geometry. In the mathematical model of the rail is evaluated: the impact of axial force, the initial deformation of rail, the foundation of soil, the gap between sleeper and rail. Profile of railway wheel is defined as a function of radius variable depending on the polar angle and described by Fourier series. In this mathematical model of railway wheel and rail contact area is divided into small sections, where the force is set in contact using the Hertz theory. Total system of non-linear equations of motion is solved by applying the Newton-Raphson method. The speed of the train is 100 km/h and static load on the rail is 100 kN. The flat of the wagon wh Numerical results of contact problem are obtained. Duration of contact is nearly equal to period during which the wheel set passes a half of the flat length. The contact force operating the wheelset is equal to approximately 1.0 MN. Maximum value of the sleeper acceleration is equal 410 g.","PeriodicalId":165563,"journal":{"name":"Journal of KONES. In the case where damping by selection of the masses and dimensions is not possible due to various reasons or for other reasons it was abandoned, vibration dampers are used. Minimization of adverse impact of dynamic interaction effects is an important research and technical problem. Passive energy absorbers used today (complex of bumpers, passenger lifts buffers typically allows to the safe dissipation of energy within a certain range of loads. In the case of high-impact loading variability is desirable to use an adaptive energy absorption system capable of rapid change their dynamic characteristics. The main issue in the analysis of interactions impact of dynamic loads on objects is dispersion (dissipation) of kinetic energy during impact. In constructions of polymer composite structures the sources of energy dissipation are: matrix of polystructural viscoelasticity, morphology of material, defect of structure, thermoplastic and viscoplastic dumping. In construction of machines more and more often be practical used materials name hyper-elastic. It is focused on selected failures (fouling) of braking systems that are typical during motor cars operation. Simulation testing regarding effect of selected failures (fouling) of braking system elements on braking force and braking efficiency were performed. In order to perform such testing, author of the paper worked out the methodology of testing which is also described here. The test results (partial) are displayed as tables and charts. The negative effect of selected failures on braking force and braking efficiency index is influencing directly on motor cars driving safety. It is also emphasized that it is important to maintain and observe automotive manufacturers’ technical requirements regarding braking system elements such as tyre pressure, tyre tread condition, brake shoes wear, etc. Basing on the test results it is found that excessive wear of tyres and brake shoes wear could be the reason of significant WSH index decrease resulting in faulty car. This can be visible through lower than allowable level of braking efficiency index WSH, which is the basic legal diagnostic parameter of break system condition assessment. Replacing such elements significantly improves braking efficiency index WSH.","PeriodicalId":165563,"journal":{"name":"Journal of KONES. Calculations were done that made it possible to quantify this hazard, which is chiefly caused by the traffic of goods vehicles. The importance of this problem is increasing in the situation of persisting strong and steady upward trend in the traffic of goods vehicles. In a recent period of 10 years, the rate of growth of the traffic of goods vehicles was almost twice as high as that of the traffic of passenger cars. The hazard and fatality risk indicator values were estimated by analysing an isolated set of accident data. The period covered by the analysis of the events that occurred in the road transport of goods extended for the years from 2002 to 2011 and the numerical values have been specified in relation to repeatable week-long periods and to four road categories. The calculated hazard indicator values have been compared with the share of goods vehicles in the whole motor vehicle market, road traffic, and goods transport.","PeriodicalId":165563,"journal":{"name":"Journal of KONES. Oil products enter marine environment on daily basis in the form of fuels, engine oils or crude oils. Each of them have a significant impact on marine life and the coastal water management. Oil content influences many environmental factors, like water quality and bio-optical parameters (e.g. water-leaving radiance, inherent optical properties, seawater fluorescence). It should be measured on regular basis to avoid over or underestimation of those parameters. Currently there are several methods used to estimate the total hydrocarbon content in seawater, mostly based on fluorescence measurements. We present a unique method suitable to determine the concentration of oil products in two forms: the amount of dissolved oil and the amount of oil-in-water emulsion. The method consist of several steps: seawater sampling, vacuum filtering, extracting of oil in n-hexane, fluorescence measurements and calculation of oil concentration in comparison to the reference samples, i.e. the solutions of different types of crude oil in n-hexane. The results have been measured for the samples collected in Southern Baltic Sea during several ship cruises in 2012. We discuss the advantages and disadvantages of presented method in the context of radiative transfer modelling and potential remote detection of dispersed oil.","PeriodicalId":165563,"journal":{"name":"Journal of KONES.
