In these systems when a node is failed to retain the previous reliability a newcomer is connected to existing nodes and downloads the same amount of information as the damage node. Thus, a great deal of data transferring, called the repair bandwidth, is imposed to the system. Recently, regenerating codes are introduced to reduce the repair bandwidth through using the notion of network coding. Furthermore, in [1] the generalized regenerating codes are proposed which is an extension of regenerating codes for the case of having different download cost from surviving nodes. The current paper provides a real world example to explain the main difference between regenerating codes and generalized regenerating codes.","PeriodicalId":165367,"journal":{"name":"2010 3rd International Symposium on Applied Sciences in Biomedical and Communication Technologies (ISABEL 2010)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124732455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using tools of analysis (wavelet analysis) and classification (support vector machines) for signal processing. The purpose of the decomposition is to obtain the largest number of MUAPs and their features to evaluate the performance of the muscle. It has healthy intramuscular records, sampled at 10 kHz for 10 seconds. The MUAP are selected by calculating the wavelet transform. With the help of the sampling rate and the duration of potentials, some MUAPs are selected to serve as patterns of each family in the classification. Using support vector machines the MUAPs are classified in the different families resulting from the previous step. Finally, firing rates are calculated for each family","PeriodicalId":165367,"journal":{"name":"2010 3rd International Symposium on Applied Sciences in Biomedical and Communication Technologies (ISABEL 2010)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125083966","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cost effective and low maintenance wearable sensors are needed in this field. The goal of this paper was to produce wearable strain sensors based on UHF RFID technology and the behavior of the materials which were utilized in prototypes. Two tag geometries were compared. Polymer thick film silver ink was used as the conductive medium. The tags were fabricated by screen printing the ink on stretchable PVC and on fabric substrates. Performance of the tags and the effect of mechanical straining on tag functioning was examined. The prototypes tolerated large strain levels. The results showed that the behavior of the UHF RFID tag strain sensor is dependent on the material behavior under strain as well as the tag antenna geometry. These offer various possibilities in strain measuring.","PeriodicalId":165367,"journal":{"name":"2010 3rd International Symposium on Applied Sciences in Biomedical and Communication Technologies (ISABEL 2010)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129466525","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To produce an SSVEP response, a visual stimulus must be presented to the user. This stimulus can be a light that flickers at a particular frequency. Classical SSVEP-BCIs consider a frequency for each BCI command. One problem for an SSVEP based BCI can be the number of simultaneous flickering stimuli. It is difficult to render many flashing boxes with as many frequencies as boxes, due to hardware constraint like the vertical refresh rate of a screen. As an alternative to the common paradigm that assigns one command to each frequency, we propose to classify different type of SSVEP responses based on the duty cycle of the flickering lights, the frequency being the same for evoking SSVEP responses. Three paradigms based on different duty cycles over six subjects are compared. The offline classification of the obtained SSVEP responses is performed with spatial filters combined with a Bayesian Linear Discriminant Analysis classifier. The results show that it is possible to efficiently discriminate SSVEP responses given by visual stimuli at the same frequency but with different duty cycles.","PeriodicalId":165367,"journal":{"name":"2010 3rd International Symposium on Applied Sciences in Biomedical and Communication Technologies (ISABEL 2010)","volume":"514 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130146909","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Information dynamics (ID) is a new concept introduced by Ohya to construct a theory under the ID's framework by synthesizing these investigating schemes. In ID, a complexity of state describing system itself and a transmitted complexity between two systems are used. One of the example of these complexities are the Shannon's entropy and the mutual entropy (information) in classical entropy theory. In quantum entropy theory, it was known that the von Neumann entropy and the Ohya mutual entropy relate to these complexities. Recently, several mutual entropy type measures (the Lindblad-Nielsen entropy and the Coherent entropy) were proposed by means of the entropy exchange for an input state and a channel. The quantum capacity is defined by taking the supremum for the Ohya mutual entropy. The main purpose of this paper is to compare with these mutual entropy type complexities in order to find most congruous one for studying the quantum communication process. In this paper, we calculate the quantum capacity for some simple models for discussing the information transmission for OOK and PSK modulations.","PeriodicalId":165367,"journal":{"name":"2010 3rd International Symposium on Applied Sciences in Biomedical and Communication Technologies (ISABEL 2010)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130914927","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The instrumented nail enables the surgeon to perform stiffness measurements of the bone/implant system in vivo. Various techniques have been developed in the past to measure the stiffness of the callus, but little research has been done on fractures treated with nails. The presented system consists of a passive measuring module, which is located inside the nail. Power and data are transmitted wirelessly by a low-frequent inductive link between the passive module and a reader unit located outside the body. The conductive material of the implant and the distance between implant and reader unit make the design of this telemetric system ambitious.","PeriodicalId":165367,"journal":{"name":"2010 3rd International Symposium on Applied Sciences in Biomedical and Communication Technologies (ISABEL 2010)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129247757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But the service quality is never a grantee due to the nature of wireless communication. This not only degrades the utility of customers but also reduces the revenue of service provider. To overcome such predicament, the overlay macrocell-femtocell system is introduced to enhance the service quality by reutilize spectrum with cognitive operations. We propose a novel wireless service revenue framework to investigate the effect of overlay system in increasing revenue. The optimal incentive compatible contract designs in different scenarios are investigated. Numerical results show that optimal contracts extract more revenue than traditional fixed-price contract in both single cell and overlay system.","PeriodicalId":165367,"journal":{"name":"2010 3rd International Symposium on Applied Sciences in Biomedical and Communication Technologies (ISABEL 2010)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131517934","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
