The practical applications are many, ranging from security to network monitoring and control. We focus our investigation on approaches tailored for sliding windows, that enable continous-time measurements independently from the observation window. In particular, we show how to extend standard approaches, such as Probabilistic Counting with Stochastic Averaging (PCSA), to count over an observation window. The main idea is to modify the data structure to store a compact representation of the timestamp in the registers and to modify coherently the related algorithms. We propose a timestamp-augmented version of PCSA, denoted as TS-PCSA, and compare it with state-of-the-art solutions based on Hyper-LogLog (HLL) counters that evaluate the cardinality over a sliding window, but without storing the timestamps. We will show that TS-PCSA with a limited memory footprint is achieving a different tradeoff between memory and accuracy with respect to HLL-based solutions.","PeriodicalId":162367,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 11th IFIP International Conference on Performance Evaluation and Modeling in Wireless and Wired Networks (PEMWN)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127915106","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Exposure and violation of location privacy of road users may be more perilous than just simple case of curiosity, it can scale to tracking and cyber-stalking. Bringing the road users mental and physical harm, from targeted advertising, blackmailing to trap planning. The causalities tracking can cause to road users are fatal. Henceforth, researcher during the past 15 years have been actively looking for solutions to preserve the location privacy while maintaining the network correct functionality. Numerous researches investigating the pseudonym change strategies (PCS) as the potential most suitable solution to this issue have been published. In this paper, we review, analyze and classify the made efforts and highlight the proofing phases. This paper could serve junior researchers in this field to learn about the made efforts in a systematic organized way in order to help them carry on their research. They could benefit from their seniors' efforts and follow their proofing methodologies when proposing out-performing schemes.","PeriodicalId":162367,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 11th IFIP International Conference on Performance Evaluation and Modeling in Wireless and Wired Networks (PEMWN)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125492959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, managing these communication networks is complex and requires permanent human intervention in such inaccessible and highly variable environments. We propose a network self-management architecture based on SDN and DRL that self-adapts to operational conditions to meet the QoS demands of network services. We use a case study of QoS-aware routing optimization in a rural scenario to test our architecture.","PeriodicalId":162367,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 11th IFIP International Conference on Performance Evaluation and Modeling in Wireless and Wired Networks (PEMWN)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123988085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Considering the classic representatives of random access protocols, Slotted ALOHA and Channel Sensing Multiple Access (CSMA), we show that two operation regimes can be identified as a function of the communication link spectral efficiency. In case of high levels of spectral efficiency, multi packet reception as granted by SIC is of limited usefulness. The obtained overall sum-rate performance are dominated by the MAC protocol algorithm. On the contrary, for low spectral efficiency levels, sum-rate performance are essentially dependent on physical layer SIC capability, while the MAC protocol is of marginal. Limitations due to limited transmission power level dynamic range are shown to induce unfairness among nodes, i.e., nodes closer to the sink achieve better sum-rate and success probability performance. However, the unfairness issues fades away when the system is driven to work around the sum-rate peak achieved for low spectral efficiency communications. This is a major finding of this work: apparently, SIC can boost performance while still maintaining a fair sharing of the achieved sum-rate performance among nodes, irrespective of the quality of their respective communication channels.","PeriodicalId":162367,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 11th IFIP International Conference on Performance Evaluation and Modeling in Wireless and Wired Networks (PEMWN)","volume":"98 1-2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114116551","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper focuses on one increasingly important family of applications, UAV-assisted cattle monitoring applications where the objective is to remotely acquire some health state information from IoT nodes attached to the herding cattle. Such livestock data acquisition applications have many challenges. One of these challenges, which is the focus of this paper, is the problem that the target cattle position may not be known precisely, and might be defined with a large area. To address this issue, we design a formulation of this UAV-cattle search path problem as a mathematical optimization problem and show how it can be derived from other well-known formulation and related literature. A Mixed-Integer linear Programming (MILP) formulation is introduced to minimize the expected search time while covering all the search area to efficiently locate the animal. This formulation exploits a cattle position probability distribution map. The results show that the suggested approach yields excellent results using the existing MILP solvers.","PeriodicalId":162367,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 11th IFIP International Conference on Performance Evaluation and Modeling in Wireless and Wired Networks (PEMWN)","volume":"119 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127237053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With Release 16 of the 3GPP, finalized in 2021, a significant standardization effort has taken place for positioning in 5G networks, especially in terms of physical layer signals, measurements, schemes, and architecture to meet the requirements of a wide range of regulatory, commercial and industrial use cases. However, experimentally-driven research aiming to assess the real-world performance of 5G positioning is still lagging behind, root causes being i) the slow integration of positioning technologies in open-source 5G frameworks, ii) the complexity in setting up and properly configuring a 5G positioning testbed and iii) the cost of a multi-BS deployment. This paper sheds some light on all such aspects. After a brief overview of state of the art in 5G positioning and its support in open-source platforms based on software-defined radios, we provide advice on how to set-up positioning testbeds, and we demonstrate, via a set of real-world measurements, how to assess aspects such as reference signal configurations, localization algorithms, and network deployments, even with a cost-constrained limited-size testbed.","PeriodicalId":162367,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 11th IFIP International Conference on Performance Evaluation and Modeling in Wireless and Wired Networks (PEMWN)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132500118","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, Cloud Computing (CC) is a well-established paradigm for building service-centric farming applications. However, the huge amount of data has put an important burden on data centers and network bandwidth and pointed out issues that cloud-based applications face such as large latency, bottlenecks because of central processing, compromised security, and lack of offline processing. Fog Computing (FC) and Edge Computing (EC) are gaining exponential attention and becoming attractive solutions to bring CC processes within reach of users and address computation-intensive offloading and latency issues. These paradigms from Cloud to Edge computing are already forming a unique ecosystem with different architectures, storage, and processing capabilities. The heterogeneity of this ecosystem comes with certain limitations and challenges. This paper carries out a systematic review of the latest high-quality literatures and aims to identify similarities, differences and the main use cases in the mentioned paradigms particularly when using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).","PeriodicalId":162367,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 11th IFIP International Conference on Performance Evaluation and Modeling in Wireless and Wired Networks (PEMWN)","volume":"253 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117307799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, different paths may have different latency characteristics, which may lead to out-of-order packet delivery. This may severely impact both the end-to-end application performance and the capacity utilisation of multiaccess systems. In this paper, we show that in-network support for packet reordering for multiaccess systems that are based on multiple transport layer tunnels is beneficial for several application types. Our findings are applicable to TCP and QUIC traffic in the 3GPP ATSSS context, where we use the MP-DCCP tunneling framework with a buffer-based packet reordering approach that uses a dynamic timing threshold to cope with variation of path delays over time. We demonstrate achievable performance gains for a wide range of path latency differences and end-to-end round trip times when using different in-network reordering algorithms.","PeriodicalId":162367,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 11th IFIP International Conference on Performance Evaluation and Modeling in Wireless and Wired Networks (PEMWN)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134089173","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
