This article examines its vulnerability and governmental responses to hurricanes. The study focuses on analyzing resilience in adversity through the case of Acapulco after Hurricane Otis category 5 from October 25, 2023. The objectives were to synthesize vulnerability and governmental responses to natural events in Acapulco, emphasizing the importance of sustainability and resilience. The methodology involved collection official data on climatic events, economic losses, and governmental responses. The evolution of the population and affected infrastructure was analyzed, focusing on specific cases such as Hurricane Otis. The results reveal an increase in vulnerability due to population growth and urban development without considering climatic risks. Despite governmental efforts in hurricane response, a lack of preparedness and risk communication impacted the city’s resilience. Therefore, the study will aim to extract lessons learned from the experience of Acapulco to provide practical recommendations for enhancing resilience in other communities facing similar disasters. Conclusions are as follows: 1) Acapulco’s vulnerability is heightened by growth without considering climatic risks; 2) governmental responses, though coordinated, need improvement in preparedness and risk communication; and 3) the key to sustainability lies in joining efforts, reducing vulnerability, and promoting resilience to extreme climatic events and 4) informing about the future strategy for disaster management and reconstruction in affected communities.","PeriodicalId":162253,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Journal of Social Studies and Economics","volume":"8 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139149992","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among the check-and-balance mechanisms include the degree of separation of powers, the degree of equity checks-and-balances, the ratio of independent directors, and duality. Based on the empirical results, two conclusions of this paper are summarized: 1. The degree of separation of powers has a positive moderating effect on the degree of strategic activism and investment efficiency, especially when the degree of separation of powers is at a low to medium level. 2. When the general manager and the chairman of the board of directors are the same person, there is a negative moderating effect between the degree of strategic aggressiveness and investment efficiency. The higher the degree of strategic aggressiveness, the investment efficiency will be significantly reduced if the chairman and general manager are combined into one person. Based on the above research results, this paper puts forward corresponding suggestions for enterprises.","PeriodicalId":162253,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Journal of Social Studies and Economics","volume":"8 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139007684","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Malappuram district, located in the southern Indian state of Kerala, is known for its distinctive features that encompass cultural, historical, and demographic aspects. Employing statistical tools such as Correlation, multiple regression, ANOVA, and chi-square, the research scrutinizes and quantifies these relationships. Notable findings underscore the prioritization of food and education in household budgets, emphasizing their pivotal role. The strong connection between education level and marital status unveils the interdependence of these decisions, reflecting societal norms. Financial implications of educational achievement shed light on how education acts as a mitigator of economic inequality by exposing income disparities. The correlation between total expenditure and education is positive, indicating that household spending plays a crucial role in achieving educational goals. The impact of food and medical expenses in affecting educational status is further highlighted by the regression analysis. When taken as a whole, these results add to a more sophisticated picture of the relationship between spending patterns and academic achievement. In the particular context of the Malappuram district, this knowledge provides insightful information for policymakers and programmes aiming to improve economic prosperity and educational accomplishment at the same time.","PeriodicalId":162253,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Journal of Social Studies and Economics","volume":"9 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139198105","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This activity focuses on empowering women bag artisans who are there. In total, 30 bag confectionery women are members of the Forway brand MSME Bag employees. These women still need to be fostered with more incentives, especially in product marketing, because they are currently still using traditional marketing techniques, namely relying on subscribed wholesale buyers. The service team takes a sociopreneurship approach, namely entrepreneurship, whose primary goal is not for personal profit alone but for the benefit of the wider community. So, in their activities, these bag tailors are taught to market bag products through digital marketing such as TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Shopee, and whatsapp. With this activity, it is hoped that these bag-sewing women will not only be tailors but also be more empowered to become product marketers. In addition, the SMEs that host it are expected to get a significant increase in profit from this training activity.","PeriodicalId":162253,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Journal of Social Studies and Economics","volume":"118 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139244673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, the study examined polygamy, early marriage and family conflict among the respondents which influence child labour practices in small scale gold mining (SSGM) in Geita region. Furthermore, the study used the case of Nyang’hwale district which is one of the districts in Geita region where SSGM activities are rampant compared to the rest of the districts. The study used a cross-sectional survey researches design. The primary data were collected by using questionnaires from 209 individuals who were randomly sampled from Nyang’hwale district in Geita region. Moreover, the study applied a newly developed method of measuring the age risk of children working under 18 years known as Eta Value. The researcher analyzed the data using the Structural Equation Modeling Partial Least Square (SEM PLS) with a combination of analytic techniques - statistics and artificial intelligence software. The study found that the child labour determinants under socio-cultural factors were polygamy, early marriage and family conflict. Moreover, the researcher found that micro-sociology focuses on the individual's micro aspects – polygamy, early marriage and family conflicts which are socio-cultural oriented. The study concludes that the fundamental sociocultural determinants are polygamy, early marriage and family conflict. Therefore the study recommends that the polygamy, early marriage and family conflict are significant sociocultural factors that contribute to the child labour practices in Geita.","PeriodicalId":162253,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Journal of Social Studies and Economics","volume":"53 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139266246","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
