Effective control of ride quality and handling performance are challenges for active vehicle suspension systems, particularly for road with irregularities. Generally a bumpy road creates discomfort to the human beings in the vehicle and damages to the vehicle's electronic and mechanical components. Hence a well-tuned suspension system is more important to enhance the comfort of the passengers. The PID and ANFIS controllers have been designed and implemented to the real time setup through the LabVIEW software. Comparison between the time responses with both the controllers has been carried out and it shows that, the system with ANFIS gives significant reduction of the sprung mass displacement and body acceleration and thus improves the vehicle ride comfort.","PeriodicalId":161131,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Robotics, Automation, Control and Embedded Systems (RACE)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127138911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Flow dependent temperature control has become vital in different industries like pharmaceuticals, drying, material processing and petroleum industries. This paper aims at nonlinear modeling, identification and control of a temperature-flow cascaded control system. The experimentally obtained open loop models are used to design conventional controllers for primary and secondary loops using Cohen-Coon tuning method. Both flow and temperature processes have also been modeled stochastically and with the help of ANN technique which have been validated with experimental data. The parameters of the model are estimated using Auto Regressive eXogenous (ARX) identification techniques. The conventional PI controller response is compared with Internal Model Control (IMC). Further the Integral Absolute Error (IAE) is computed separately for the conventional controller and the IMC controller to select better performance of controller. In the cascade loop, temperature process is kept in primary loop and flow is considered in the secondary loop. Results indicate that it can be implemented in commercial. Changes in the inlet flow of water to the heating tank affect the temperature of the process fluid directly and hence it is important to control the nonlinear behavior of the flow process in order to control the temperature process.","PeriodicalId":161131,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Robotics, Automation, Control and Embedded Systems (RACE)","volume":"322 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123930535","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A decision based switching median filter (DBSMF) to restore images corrupted with high density impulse noise is proposed in this paper. The global use of standard median filters for impulse noise removal from corrupted images provide good results but the filtering operation may affect fine pixels in addition to noisy pixels which leaves a blurred effect on the filtered image. In order to address this issue the proposed algorithm makes use of an efficient detection scheme to identify the noise pixels and noise free pixels. The detection algorithm clusters the pixels in the corrupted image so as to fall under three categories which states whether the pixels are corrupted or uncorrupted. The proposed switching median filter processes only on those pixels that are classified as corrupted and replaces the processing pixel by the median value. Under high noise densities the filtering window consists of more number of corrupted pixels. For such cases, the proposed algorithm restricts certain conditions on the expansion of the filtering window size to effectively choose the median value. The performance of this decision based algorithm is tested against four noise models for different levels of noise densities and is evaluated in terms of performance metrics which include Peak Signal to Noise ratio (PSNR) and Image Enhancement Factor (IEF). It gives better results for images that are extremely corrupted up to 90% noise density and outperforms classic filters in terms of handling image corruption.","PeriodicalId":161131,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Robotics, Automation, Control and Embedded Systems (RACE)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122880292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Vision sensors attached with the autonomous underwater vehicles, themselves cause light dispersion and shadows in the ocean floor. Although, several computer vision algorithms have been developed, effective analysis of the algorithms both quantitatively and qualitatively have not been done. This paper analyses the existing methods for the inherent problems and provides a framework for underwater image processing. Initially, for non-uniform illumination correction, homomorphic, anisotropic and bilateral filtering techniques are compared for contrast equalization. Contrast enhancement is done using contrast limited adaptive histogram equalization (CLAHE) with adaptive histogram clip. Finally, Haar wavelet and Symlet are compared for adaptive smoothing, elimination of remaining noise and for improving edge detection. Performance is assessed by computing peak signal noise ratio (PSNR), contrast to noise ratio (CNR), image enhancement metric (IEM), and absolute mean brightness error (AMBE). Histograms are computed before and after applying pre-processing filters, for evaluating the proposed methodology. A combination of homomorphic filtering, CLAHE and haar wavelet denoising provides better results over other methods for underwater images.","PeriodicalId":161131,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Robotics, Automation, Control and Embedded Systems (RACE)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123327397","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposes Artificial Neural Network (ANN) based approach for accurate RUL prediction of high speed milling cutters. Developed ANN model uses time and statistical features, selected through stepwise regression feature subset selection technique, as input. By doing this, the strong correlation model is achieved and the performance of cutting tool prognosis is enhanced. An examination is carried out in this work on functioning of distinctive models established with same data. For small installation split air conditioners with high sensible heat factors are selected with n number of units along with standby units according to the heat load. The selection of number of units for the particular time is determined by human. If the cooling is insufficient then more number of units were switched on manually There is no monitoring system for the air conditioner to determine their efficiency. This results the following problem (1) wastage of energy due to random number selection of air conditioner (2) non uniform hour operation of the air conditioner. This paper aims to address the above issues by (1)selecting the number of units optimally according to the room temperature by embedded controller designed for this purpose and also (2)the run hour of all air conditioner are made equally made by introducing run hour equalizing algorithm. Offline handwritten recognition is a major application of pattern recognition. Self-Organizing Feature Map or Kohonen map is a data visualization method which can decrease the dimensions of data by clustering the similar data. A new dynamic SOFM classification process is used in the proposed system. It can be used as a character classification process before the conversion of the handwritten image into machine readable format. The classification of input data is performed by unsupervised learning. The proposed dynamic DSOFM increases the convergence speed about 2 times as much as the speed of ordinary SOFM method. The comparison of performance analysis of DSOFM and ordinary SOFM shows that the proposed method is efficient in terms of time consumption for character classification.","PeriodicalId":161131,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Robotics, Automation, Control and Embedded Systems (RACE)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129137907","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The overall survival rate of lung cancer patients is only 14%. Lives of cancer patients can be saved if the cancer is detected in the initial stages. Positron Emission Tomography / Computed Tomography (PET/CT) is the preferred imaging modality in cancer detection with improved diagnostic accuracy due to the integration of functional (PET) and anatomical (CT) information into a single scan. Although PET/CT is advantageous over other modalities, visual inspection of these images may be an error prone task, as it is difficult to distinguish between background tissues and lung nodules and subject to inter and intra observer variability. Therefore, computational systems are essential to assist radiologists in the elucidation of images and accurate diagnosis. This paper aims at developing a methodology for automatic detection of lung cancer from PET/CT images. Image pre-processing methods such as Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) and Wiener filtering were performed to remove the artifacts due to contrast variations and noise. Lung region of interest (ROI) were extracted from images using morphological operators. Haralick statistical texture features were preferred as they extract more texture information from the cancer regions than the visual assessment. Fuzzy C means (FCM) clustering was used to classify the regions as normal or abnormal. The proposed method was carried out using PET/CT images of lung cancer patients and implemented using MATLAB. The performance of the proposed methodology was evaluated using Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) curve. The proposed method provides better classification and cancer detection with an overall accuracy of 92.67%.","PeriodicalId":161131,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Robotics, Automation, Control and Embedded Systems (RACE)","volume":"125 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114610867","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To reduce loss, structures are tested for their resistance to earthquake. However, a 6-DOF seismic simulator (UPS-leg) having the existing design of eight actuators (four vertical actuators, two actuators each along X and Y axes) is very costly to afford. In this paper, an alternate design of shake table (3-legged RPRS 6-DOF, by 6 active actuators) is proposed for investigation having better motion capability, higher payload carrying capacity, ease in control, redundant, decoupled motion and at lower cost. To make a meaningful comparison between the two manipulators we choose stiffness parameters.","PeriodicalId":161131,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Robotics, Automation, Control and Embedded Systems (RACE)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133798017","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
