The approaches used are Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Markov Reliability Modeling (MRM). Each method is introduced and applied to a simple system to illustrate its application procedure. Reliability parameters such as the system's mean time to failure (MTTF), component structure importance, and reliability function are evaluated using simulation models. Conventional control methods of the DAB converter may cause dc offsets in both inductor current and transformer magnetizing current in transient states. The dc offset in the inductor current introduces an excessive peak current through the switching devices. The dc offset in the magnetizing current cannot be neglected and may induce magnetic flux saturation. Conventional phase-shift control methods simultaneously turn on and off the diagonal switches in each H-bridge to produce a square-wave voltage. On the other hand, the proposed method independently controls diagonal switches to generate short zero-voltage periods in a transient state. The theoretical analysis derives the requirements of the switching angles, which enable both inductor and magnetizing currents to be settled within a half switching period without any dc offset. With measurements obtained from the proposed identification, a thermodynamics module is established for the temperature and the fault detection. Besides, the relationship between the rotor temperature and the load can be calculated. Then based on different loads, suitable ratios of voltage to frequency in different conditions can be captured. Finally, the control of the ratio enables power supply to match the oil pump output automatically. The experimental results from an ESM (12kW) in lab are shown to validate the proposed method. By studying the energy exchange process and principle between the AC side and DC side, a DC voltage control method, controlling the magnitude and direction of the current flowing into the DC side, is proposed, to keep the DC voltage stable. The influence of the load active current on the DC voltage is analyzed in detail. A new non-harmonic detection control strategy is proposed with the load active current as a perturbation. The proposed control strategy which avoids complex detection algorithm, and in turn the errors and delay caused by detection algorithm, improves dynamic response speed greatly. Operating under supervisory command, these converters have the potential to serve as a low cost alternative to conventional reactive power compensation solutions by utilizing their available capacity for reactive power support in smartgrids and microgrids. It is demonstrated that unidirectional converters are able to support their load demand while simultaneously compensating reactive power demand elsewhere in the grid. However, as the generated reactive power increases, harmonic current content is introduced in the grid. In this case, locally available photovoltaic or vehicle-to-grid bidirectional converters capable of harmonic current compensation can serve as active power filters. However, the error in the voltage modulation can be occurred when the PMSM runs at ultra-high speed (above 50krpm), that is, the ratio of the sampling frequency to the fundamental frequency (Fratio = fsamp/ffund) is small. In this paper, the realization of the six-step operation in Surface Mounted PMSM (SMPMSM) with the variable time step control is proposed. The control variable is the time step in the proposed method. The torque is controlled by manipulating the time step. By updating the inverter output voltage on every time step, beat phenomenon caused by small Fratio can be solved. The proportional and integral gains of the current controller are determined with consideration of the system stability. The torque ripples make the mechanical vibration at low speeds and the acoustic noise at high speeds. The feed-forward harmonic currents compensation may reduce the torque ripples at low speeds, but the torque ripples at high speeds can't be reduced due to the limited bandwidth of the current controller. In this paper, the torque ripple reduction algorithm for wide speed operating ranges is proposed. The harmonic currents and the harmonic voltages that cancel the 6th order torque ripples are compensated to the reference currents and reference voltages, respectively. The torque ripples at low speeds are reduced by the compensated harmonic currents, and the torque ripples at high speeds are reduced by the compensated harmonic voltages. The values of these parameters are not constant but vary with the operation condition. The stator winding resistance and rotor flux linkage are affected by the temperature. Inductances are changed according to the magnetic saturation. So each parameter need to be estimated in real time and updated to each controller. This paper enhances the accuracy of on-line parameter estimation in the low speed operation region using the proposed current shaping method. In the low speed operation region, the nonlinearity of voltage source inverter (VSI) causes estimation error. The proposed method adjusts the current reference to change rapidly at zero current region because the nonlinearity is severe at the region. By the dead time compensation and the proposed current shaping, the error caused area is reduced and estimation accuracy can be increased. However, H-Bridge power converter of the conventional BIPT systems generates highly distorted AC current which results in reduced overall system efficiency particularly in high power BIPT systems. In order to overcome this drawback, a multilevel converter (MC) with selective harmonic distortion (SHE) modulation method is presented in this paper to eliminate high order harmonic components in converter voltages at both sides of BIPT systems. The proposed MC topology is constructed using a modified H-Bridge converter with minimum number of power switches. The proposed topology is suitable for low to medium power applications. This requirement helps to support a POI voltage during a fault. However, if a fault is cleared, the POI and wind turbine generator (WTG) voltages are likely to exceed acceptable levels unless the WPP reduces the injected reactive power quickly. This might deteriorate the stability of a grid by allowing the disconnection of WTGs to avoid any damage. This paper proposes a hierarchical control scheme of a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG)-based WPP. The proposed scheme aims to improve the reactive power injecting capability during the fault and suppress the overvoltage after the fault clearance. To achieve the former, an adaptive reactive power-to-voltage scheme is implemented in each DFIG controller so that a DFIG with a larger reactive power capability will inject more reactive power. To achieve the latter, a washout filter is used to capture a high frequency component contained in the WPP voltage, which is used to remove the accumulated values in the proportional-integral controllers.
