Past studies on road-crossing decision-making mostly focus on the increased risk in older pedestrians due to diminished cognitive functions but often overlooked the impact of providing information about time. Therefore, this study examined the effects of assistive systems providing two different types of time information, namely, remaining time and arriving time, on road-crossing in older pedestrians under different traffic situations. The results showed that both assistive systems reduced the road-crossing response time and collision rate in older adults. In general, the “remaining time system” was more effective, especially in the combination of short vehicle gap and high vehicle speed. Remaining time was found to be more intuitive for road-crossing decision-making. These findings contribute to effective ways to reduce the risk of road crossing in elderly pedestrians.","PeriodicalId":16024,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Industrial and Production Engineering","volume":"40 1","pages":"117 - 125"},"PeriodicalIF":4.5,"publicationDate":"2022-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43088437","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This limits use of simple analytical functions for job shop manufacturing due date assigning, especially when dealing with orders involving multiple-resource manufacturing systems in receipt of random orders of different process plans. Our approach involves developing a Support Vector Machine classifier to articulate job shop manufacturing due date assigning in heterogeneous manufacturing environments. The emergent model allows not only for the complex relationships between flowtimes and manufacturing system status, but also for the prediction of random order flowtime of manufacturing systems with multiple resources. Our findings also suggest that service levels play a major role in negotiated due dates and eventual customer propensity to place manufacturing orders. In emphasizing negotiated due dates as against exogenous assigned due dates, the study focuses scholarly attention toward the need for participative, open and inclusive due date assignments. Workers engaged in CNS task commonly operate pedal-operated cashew nut sheller (CNSR) in awkward standing posture that can contribute to work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). However, investigations from an ergonomics perspective have barely been conducted in Indian small-scale cashew nut processing industries. Therefore, the present study aims to evaluate the postural workload in CNS task to propose an ergonomic design intervention in small-scale cashew nut processing industries. A combination of methods, including posture recording, postural assessment, interviews, questionnaire study, virtual prototyping, and digital human modeling and simulation, were used. Using the pedal-operated CNSR resulted in high-risk postures of MSDs. Based on these preliminary findings, a simple, improved, and adjustable hand-operated CNSR was designed and evaluated ergonomically. It was found that newly designed CNSR improved postures noticeably and provided comfort for workers.","PeriodicalId":16024,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Industrial and Production Engineering","volume":"39 1","pages":"629 - 643"},"PeriodicalIF":4.5,"publicationDate":"2022-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42527960","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to develop a fully polynomial-time approximation scheme (FPTAS), a solution method which has been neglected in past studies, to solve the studied problem. The FPTAS, which is based on a dynamic programming algorithm is developed by applying a trimming-the-state-space approach. Theoretical proofs of the error bound and the time complexity for the proposed FPTAS are also provided. The computational results indicate that the proposed FPTAS performs more efficiently than a dynamic programming algorithm in terms of both run time and problem size. The error bound of the FPTAS is demonstrated to be within the pre-specified error bound.","PeriodicalId":16024,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Industrial and Production Engineering","volume":"40 1","pages":"54 - 67"},"PeriodicalIF":4.5,"publicationDate":"2022-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44624242","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unlike prior studies, different game structures are considered to study the interaction between supply chain players. The models are formulated using nonlinear optimization. To maximize supply chain players’ total profit, an analytical and closed-form approach is applied to determine the best service price and environmental investment. The numerical illustration confirms that investment in environmental factors increases the total profit of supply chain partners and an optimal extent exists. Medical waste generators are also willing to pay more to firms that incorporate environmental aspects into their disposal operations. Furthermore, according to the sensitivity analysis, the decision-making power of the contractor has no significant impact on its profitability. Although food supply chain is urged to become sustainable, there is a lack of a systematic data-driven describing the most appropriate indicators to advance both Halal and non-Halal sustainable food supply chain. With an aim of analyzing up-to-date sustainable food supply chain, a combination of content analysis, fuzzy Delphi method, fuzzy decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory is presented. The results show that the most significant indicators for non-Halal sustainable food supply chain are food consumption, food safety, food security, resilience, food waste management. The most crucial indicators of Halal sustainable food supply chain consist of Halal certification, Halal supply chain trust, Islamic values, Halal food safety. A contemporary sustainable food supply chain is presented and future trends, challenges, and opportunities are determined.","PeriodicalId":16024,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Industrial and Production Engineering","volume":"39 1","pages":"430 - 457"},"PeriodicalIF":4.5,"publicationDate":"2022-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42374646","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In many cases, the data might be stochastic. In the current study, using stochastic data envelopment analysis model, we present a new approach to categorize inventory items given stochastic data and nature of criteria. Then, a new stochastic mixed integer programming model is proposed to forecast classes of the new inventory items. The proposed stochastic mixed integer programming model does not impose subjective judgment on the classification of inventory items and can be used for multi-group classification. The developed approach can classify inventory items and forecast the class of new items with both qualitative and quantitative criteria. The applicability of developed stochastic data envelopment analysis and stochastic mixed integer programming models is demonstrated by a case study.","PeriodicalId":16024,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Industrial and Production Engineering","volume":"39 1","pages":"415 - 429"},"PeriodicalIF":4.5,"publicationDate":"2022-03-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45745923","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Difficulties arise when the existing methods cannot be applied due to some hypotheses, leading to wrong inventory levels, and , higher holding costs . In this paper, a methodological framework, based on the Zero-Inflated Poisson regression, and called Spare Part Oriented ZIP Approach (SPOZA) is developed. It aims to simplify the inventory-level evaluation procedure when items have an irregular demand pattern The SPOZA output is the evaluation of the optimal theoretical protection level to fulfil to reduce inventory total costs as a percentage value. Aiming to evaluate the benefits of applying SPOZA, a real-case application is presented. Several scenarios are analyzed, and comparisons with standard forecasting methods are conducted. Results are very promising since SPOZA leads to an inventory costs reduction and performs better than other approaches, especially when the items demand increases. A systematic literature review (SLR) approach was used, which provides an evidence-based scientific method of searching and analyzing the literature. The study covered 101 relevant articles from 2010 to 2021. The study identified 36 LM tools impacting manufacturing sustainability and recognized the top 10 tools, such as six sigma and kaizen. Twenty sustainability metrics were also identified, such as eight wastes and air emissions. The greatest impact of LM tools was on the economic aspect, such as reducing costs. There is still a need to discover how LM tools can negatively affect sustainability. The findings will open up new avenues for researchers and manufacturers to support the effects of LM tools on sustainability.","PeriodicalId":16024,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Industrial and Production Engineering","volume":"39 1","pages":"552 - 571"},"PeriodicalIF":4.5,"publicationDate":"2022-02-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43580600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
