In the proposed FMS, a carousel-based layout is enclosed by different manufacturing cells and assembly cells, which are equipped with multiple multipurpose machines (undergoing planned breakdowns), robots and a conveyor for the production and assembly tasks. The FMS exhibits intra and inter-cellular routing flexibility allowing the parts to adopt different routes within cells and in between cells to ensure continuous production under planned resources failure conditions. For system modeling, a comprehensive hierarchical Colored Petri net (CPN) approach is used, and the result of several input variables has been revealed on the output indicators in particular cycle time, throughput, and work-in-process (WIP). Further, the design of experiment (DoE) and response surface methods (RSM) have been employed for system optimization. The cycle time and WIP responses have been minimized and throughput has been maximized.","PeriodicalId":16024,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Industrial and Production Engineering","volume":"39 1","pages":"479 - 493"},"PeriodicalIF":4.5,"publicationDate":"2022-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46873140","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Prior studies failed to cover the aftermath of disruption in the manufacturing process in a multi-layer supply chain. Here the manufacturing system may face random disruption after a fixed period named safe period. Due to the lengthy maintenance period of the disrupted system, shortages may hamper the smooth business for both the members of the chain. The result reveals that the manufacturer-dominated scenario favours the manufacturer, while the retailer gains in the Centralized system. Also, it is obtained that the costs of the member and chain decrease with a higher value of the safe period, and they increase when the range of the maintenance period increases. This study proposes an iterative method, depending on functional values, as a solution methodology. Stacking ensemble learning is employed to predict surgery priority. The stacking algorithm is composed of K-nearest neighbor, multi-nominal logistic regression, decision tree, multi-layer perceptron, and ensemble learning. Then, the predicted priorities are fed into an optimization model. Six patient-related variables are used to predict surgery priority: surgery type, patient acuity, patient age, number of delayed days a surgery is postponed, patient age, and surgery time. The study contribution comes from integrating machine learning and optimization to propose a priority-based decision model for optimally sequencing surgeries daily. The experimental results show that the proposed approach is better than the current practice in handling unscheduled surgeries, while the scheduling cost remains nearly unchanged. We show the effectiveness of the proposed approach for handling the surgery cancellation problem in operating room systems with high surgery demands. In this paper, three maintenance policies are employed based on the maximization of machine’s reliability and availability. This problem is NP-hard. So, two hybrid optimization methods, namely variable neighborhood search together with simulated annealing algorithm, and variable neighborhood search along with tabu search algorithm, are used to find the proper job sequencing. Statistical methods are conducted based on the hypothetical testing and analysis of variance to determine the better solution method and sensitivity analysis. Also, the performances of the presented algorithms on the problems of different sizes are analyzed. Results have shown that variable neighborhood search with simulated annealing outperforms another algorithm in the quality of solutions and computational time.","PeriodicalId":16024,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Industrial and Production Engineering","volume":"39 1","pages":"494 - 503"},"PeriodicalIF":4.5,"publicationDate":"2021-12-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43953657","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is the vibration that is one of the important monitored parameters that allow obtaining initial information about the operational status of the equipment. Exceeding the preset limits adversely affects the service life and reliability of the components. The experimental part is focused on recording and analyzing the magnitude of vibration acceleration, through frequency spectrum and its comparison with the envelopes of frequency spectrums. The obtained graphical dependencies from the experiments are a suitable basis for the assessment of the objective state.","PeriodicalId":16024,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Industrial and Production Engineering","volume":"88 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":4.5,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89806554","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The titanium alloy has been increasingly used for high performance application for oil and gas, aerospace, energy, medical and automotive industries. The importance of milling strategies outgoing from their impact on the economic aspects of production, realized using CNC machines. A planar sample was designed for the purposes of the experiment, enabling finishing cutter path strategies for shaped surfaces. Three cutting strategies were involved and compared- spiral, constant Z and line feed. For assessment of the effect of the cutting strategies three different feed rate were used. Comparison of simulated cutter path strategies and machined surface were visually inspected as well as measured surface roughness were evaluated. The constant Z cutting path strategy was found as suitable cutting strategy from point of view of surface roughness.","PeriodicalId":16024,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Industrial and Production Engineering","volume":"38 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":4.5,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88600300","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Interest in this field has declined dramatically, however, since the beginning of the third millennium. Has the cutting process reached the limits of knowledge by their exhaustion or has it become inefficient for industry compared to other new processes for manufacturing metallic, non-metallic materials and composites? Why is the field no longer as attractive to researchers? Here is what this paper tries to clarify and propose to researchers in the field to reinvent the approach of the cutting process, as an incomplete explored and still excellent perspective, not only for the manufacturing industry, but also for the theoretical foundations of the cutting phenomenon.","PeriodicalId":16024,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Industrial and Production Engineering","volume":"2 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":4.5,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87108718","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Through digitalization, the companies will be able to operate and program the complex CNC machine tools that will be ready to respond more flexibly to the market demands and at the same time to boost their productivity. Work preparation and production can be breaking down further into additional process steps, ranging from tendering to quality assurance. The demand for digitalization solution can be illustrated thru the following targets and questions what every production company must define and establish: 1. How long time will be the part on the machine to be manufacturi; 2. Is that CNC machine tools (what is able and have the technical characteristics) available; 3. Are necessary new cutting tools for this new job; 4.The CNC operator is familiar with the CNC control equipment; 5. Does the workpiece tolerance correspond with the customer specifications. Is not so easy to link up all this requests and to find the best solutions in time and to have high productivity. Digital manufacturing will give us the preliminary units costs and delivery deadline that must be determined to be able to tender for a job correctly. Today, the amount of time a workpiece will require for machining can be calculated quickly reliably and very important, without trial runs, using CNC simulation solutions. This recommendations from our paper can be an answer at the production companies and the advantage of this implementations is that can be made step by step. The solution of this implementation should be in concordance with the company’s requirements and resources.","PeriodicalId":16024,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Industrial and Production Engineering","volume":"8 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":4.5,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86505532","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Machining of CPM 10V steel and finding a suitable tool is very challenging due to its physical and mechanical properties, especially since the machining of this material has not been extensively researched. The experiments were carried out using an Index GU -600 CNC lathe and the cutting forces were measured in process. A three-factorial three-level experimental design was used for the experiments. Statistical method analysis of variance (ANOVA) is applied to study the effects of cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut on cutting forces. The results of this study show that depth of cut has the most significant effect on main force and radial force, while feed rate and cutting speed have the most significant effect on feed force. The developed model can be used in the machining industry to predict and analyze cutting parameters for optimal cutting forces.","PeriodicalId":16024,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Industrial and Production Engineering","volume":"39 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":4.5,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78083197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
