This network offers educational perspectives for engineering students in their first semesters of higher education and has added recently a graduate education approach. This article describes how STS scholarship contributed a comprehensive view of technology, interdisciplinarity and development of critical thinking. Finally, it reviews STS education through active teaching and design in context, and describes the emergence of a graduate certificate program under an engineering, technology and society approach. This program combines engineering, social participation, technological assessment and STS thinking.","PeriodicalId":16005,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Higher Education, Theory, and Practice","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135437026","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The approach was quantitative, of the descriptive type of group comparison. The population consisted of 1320 students and the sample consisted of a total of 298 students who were administered the SF-36 Health Questionnaire (version 2). According to the results, the health status of university students is in the medium risk level, which could affect the quality of learning, the prevalence and affection of other possible diseases, as well as absenteeism. Likewise, through the Chi-square test, the statistical power and the effect size, it was possible to determine that the health status is similar in the groups of students conformed by gender and family dependence. However, it was evidenced that the evolution of health in the university students of the gender group is different (p<0.05; w=0.339; 1-β= 0.865).","PeriodicalId":16005,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Higher Education, Theory, and Practice","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135436848","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, SNS use sometimes risks a user’s life satisfaction. Based on the prior findings that one’s social orientation influences the impact of SNS use on life satisfaction, this study examined the pathways to explain how SNS use affects individuals’ life satisfaction through social achievement goals. A main path model and two gender-specified path models were tested using 438 Korean college student samples. The results showed that social development goals mediated the relationships between active SNS use and life satisfaction across all three path models. The social demonstration approach goal was positively predicted by active SNS use in the main model and the male model, but it did not predict life satisfaction in both models. The social demonstration-avoidance goal was positively predicted by active SNS use in the main and female models. Still, it negatively predicted life satisfaction in both models. Implications and directions for future study are discussed.","PeriodicalId":16005,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Higher Education, Theory, and Practice","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135436853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nowadays, it is possible to differentiate between two types of ERP systems: proprietary systems and open-source systems. In order to profit from the advantages of open-source systems and overcome the drawbacks of free software, lecturers of the subject Introduction to Firms Information Systems at Universitat Jaume introduced Odoo software in the practical sessions of the course. Using active methodologies, lecturers involve students in the design and implementation of an Odoo ERP for the management of a real business. In order to know the previous background, engagement, motivation, and overall satisfaction with this educational innovation, we carried out an online survey of students. The results of this survey will be presented and suggest future avenues for carrying out actions that contribute to the knowledge of the management of these ERP management systems. In addition, the main implications for business management education will be presented.","PeriodicalId":16005,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Higher Education, Theory, and Practice","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135437016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main classifications of methods are carried out, allowing the most effective help in teaching English. Language has been and will remain the key to the world of knowledge. Proficiency in multiple languages has been valued since ancient times. At each stage of the development of society, a certain language plays an essential role for all mankind. Knowledge of foreign languages opens new doors for a person to improve and expand his worldview. If earlier knowledge of the German language was required, today, English plays a prominent role. The ability to speak English competently is closely related to its teaching. The modern age requires a new approach, new methods of teaching foreign languages. The main goal of the current school is to awaken in the child's desire to learn, to acquire new knowledge and activities, while building the further direction of their own education. The students are tasked with independently studying, finding, and analyzing materials, while the main task of the teacher is the right direction. The teacher needs to logically and correctly build a lesson so that students are interested in learning English since the practice of the traditional method, forcing students to cram words and grammar in practice, did not give the desired result. The search for new teaching methods is associated with a lack of motivation among students to learn English. Very often, there is no positive motivation because when learning a foreign language, students encounter some difficulties and do not learn the material due to their psychological characteristics. Work experience shows that using various, modern, fresh sources and means provokes students' interest, increasing their motivation to study.","PeriodicalId":16005,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Higher Education, Theory, and Practice","volume":"185 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135437018","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These policies potentially protect students but also provide a means of artificially improving key funding metrics. This study uses Agency Theory to examine over 1,100 Division I, II, and III U.S. universities and compares the usage of Administrative Withdrawal Policies to state and federal funding. Results show Division II schools receiving less state funding have adopted these policies at a higher rate than Division II schools receiving more. Recommendations for future use of these policies is provided.","PeriodicalId":16005,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Higher Education, Theory, and Practice","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135437019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It uses a qualitative descriptive research method, which is a method that describes the object of research at present based on facts that appear as they should. The data collection technique used was in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Respondents came from teachers as educators, students as students, and parents of students as companions in the implementation of learning carried out by teachers and students. The study results show that the obstacles to online learning in the junior high school in Palembang city are the infrastructure facilities provided by the school. The knowledge of the technology skills used by teachers for online learning could be better. The technological facilities owned by students and the assistance provided by parents of students to accompany their children in implementing online learning at public junior high schools in Palembang could be better.","PeriodicalId":16005,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Higher Education, Theory, and Practice","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135437027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study’s sample consisted of 220 teachers randomly selected from Ajloun schools. The study's findings indicate that social values are highly regarded across various domains, except for work values, which received an average ranking. Moreover, the results reveal a statistically significant gender-based difference in the level of social values (α = 0.05), favoring females, as well as variations based on experience, favoring the “9 years or more” category. Furthermore, the study highlights a strong awareness of the interconnected requirements for sustainable development, particularly in social, environmental, and economic dimensions. The findings also demonstrate a statistically significant positive correlation (α = 0.01) between participants’ overall evaluation of social values and their comprehensive assessment of sustainable development principles. The study proposes the integration of societal ideals and sustainable development criteria into student curricula and teacher training programs. This integration aims to enhance the understanding and application of sustainable development concepts among teachers.","PeriodicalId":16005,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Higher Education, Theory, and Practice","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135436849","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There have been numerous studies on user acceptance of learning technology. However, until now, there has been no evaluation research on user satisfaction by transformational leadership as a mediator. This study evaluated user satisfaction, namely students, based on the UTAUT and Delone McLean models. The method used is random sampling as a pilot study of 2 classes at a private Islamic university in Jakarta, Indonesia. In this study, we used ten variables, namely; Performance Expectancy (PE), Effort Expectancy (EE), Social Influence (SI), Facilitating Conditions (FC), System Quality (SQ), Information Quality (IQ), Service Quality (SeQ), Transformational Leadership (TL), User Satisfaction (US). The results showed that eight hypotheses were accepted out of 6, so 75% of this pilot study was successful. We concluded that how students act significantly affects how interested they are in using the Moodle platform.","PeriodicalId":16005,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Higher Education, Theory, and Practice","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135437022","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Malaysia has committed to this target and introduced effective policies to accomplish the gaol as early as possible. This paper aimed to trace the effort made by Malaysian government in achieving gender parity. The paper used the most recent statistical data released by related higher education institutions. This coupled with the critical review and deep analysis of the documents and reports on higher education published in and out of Malaysia. The paper also employed both Gender Parity Index (GPI) and Gender Gap Global Index GGGI to measure gender parity. The findings showed that Malaysia has not only made efforts, but also achieved gender parity practically in public universities. The female gross enrolment ratio has jumped from only 10.7% in the 1950s to around (48%) of today. Despite this positive remark, gender stereotype is likely to continue taking other shapes and forms and still a room left for improvement.","PeriodicalId":16005,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Higher Education, Theory, and Practice","volume":"206 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135437023","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
