This belief gets even stronger since the Internet is full with answers and ready-made solutions to handle all the question viewed during the study process. Comprehension of the subject and other things become insignificant if the subject itself is considered useless. For the subject not to be absolutely rejected, each course should include the basic philosophy, structure, and the themes currently viewed in the field as well as the necessary minimum to start getting acquainted with the topicalities of the subject. It is obvious that in a STEM subject (the study courses of STEM subjects have less or almost enough information to start getting acquainted with the topicalities) the comprehension is important. If it lacks, the student starts to dislike and reject the subject. This is also true in everyday life when encountering new concepts, relations, engineer technical solutions, etc., new things. Therefore, alongside building motivation, means of gaining comprehension must be found and knowledge must be used not only in the field of the given subject. For this purpose, reverse thinking is the useful as described in this paper. If someone has the ability to reduce matters of a subject to fit other things of other persons or things previously known to him/her, it is an example of only restricted reverse thinking. If the person has the ability to do so unintentionally in any situation, it can be called reverse thinking as we understand it. Practice of creation and usage of the models in a given subject + models in other subjects and demonstration how this approach is used universally and intentionally show that this approach let you understand a lot of new things, gradually habituates to unintentional use the models and helps to “understand the idea,” and finally, leading to subconscious use of the models. Reverse thinking is one of phenomenons typical to the human brain and, as the eight years long practice shows (see http://www.goerudio.com), is actually possible. Students are able to create models that answer the question “why,” but the created model basis allows inventing or re-discovering the same thing again. This already is an experimental result and is available in the public space (see http://www.goerudio.com), showing the student models for STEM subject","PeriodicalId":159185,"journal":{"name":"US-China education review","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128532105","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Marge Piercy (1936- ), who was initially a poet then a novelist, was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1936. The main character in the novel Connie Ramos is a Mexican-American woman who is confined in a mental hospital. She is considered as mentally sick, which is an unjust treatment to her. On the other hand, Connie can communicate telepathically with the future world of Mattapoisett in 2137 via Luciente. In order to understand the unjust treatments in the protagonist Connie’s world and compare the health system in both societies, it is the author’s intention to analyze the healing process in the Woman on the Edge of Time , both in Mattapoisett and the protagonist Connie Ramos’ world. Thus, the author argues that in order to stay healthy in personal and societal level, one needs to live a holistic and egalitarian life similar to Mattapoisett, which is the antithesis of Connie’s capitalist, greedy, and conformist world. The healing process includes the health system in both societies: the asylums, hospitals, and psychiatric institutions in general. In order to analyze and compare the healing process and the health system in both societies, it will be important to look through the dynamics and norms of the society.","PeriodicalId":159185,"journal":{"name":"US-China education review","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131990080","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The use of educational games may support teachers to reach this goal. However, this strategy requires high investments. This paper proposes that a formal model and a knowledge base (KB) that can map all necessary details of an educational game, allowing the simulation in a computational environment. Also, this work shows a software able to interpret that formal model and to understand the KB by use of an inference engine. With these resources, the software simulates an educational game, offering students it on the Internet. The first step for the game creation starts with the manufacture of the formal model and the KB. This paper uses a state transition diagram (STD), which can map all possible paths in a specific game. This model mapped the dynamic of several educational games tested. Besides the STD, we used a KB to store rules used in the game control. After mapping the game, teachers must submit the model to the built program. The program reads the model and simulates the mapped game in a computational environment. It has an inference engine that controls the games’ flow by the various states of the game. The start stage is equivalent to the initial state of the STD. Users may pass to the next stage only if they fulfill the game rules. The final state of the STD is equivalent to the final stage of the game. To show a feasibility of the proposed approach, some educational games were developed and used in practical classes. The game creation is a hard task, and however, teachers may improve it indefinitely. In addition, teachers may exchange their games between them, creating a gaming base in their institution. The work conclude that objectives were reached, due to the proposed model can map all educational game figured out by participating teachers and the software is able to simulate all the games mapped in the proposed formal model.","PeriodicalId":159185,"journal":{"name":"US-China education review","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134214196","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We recruited 219 preschool teachers (90.9% are female) from different regions of Turkey via an online survey. Teachers’ age ranged from 20 to 53 years old (Mean [ M ] = 27.83, standard deviation [ SD ] = 5.66) and 57.5% of them were single. Average teaching experience was 4.62 years ( SD = 4.85), which ranged from one to 31 years. Teachers reported on their perceptions of the importance given to children’s developmental and educational experiences, and children’s learning outcomes. Results from canonical correlations showed that the importance given to educational and developmental experiences of children, and the importance to children’s learning outcomes were significantly associated. Further, the importance of the current findings in early childhood education is discussed.","PeriodicalId":159185,"journal":{"name":"US-China education review","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132438989","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Today, there is virtually a campus or an institution collaborating with a university in most urban centers. Following the promulgation of the new constitution in 2010 in Kenya, education is a basic human right. Consequently, it has continued to receive support from both the government and the private sector. Higher education has been commercialized as seen in the craze for establishment of some university campuses without sufficient learning and research facilities. What is more, individuals, parents, and benefactors are willing to go to all lengths to ensure that their children get degrees with the hope of uplifting their living standards. The Kenyan universities are graduating thousands of students each year to the job market, and hence, the huge numbers of graduates are unemployed. In the midst of all this, there is need for re-designing of the university curriculum to be more innovative and focus on meeting the government’s development agenda as envisioned in Vision 2030 and a move towards achieving the millennium development goals (MDG) of poverty eradication. The future university ought to be on the forefront by providing sustainable solutions for the many challenges we faced. This paper discusses the various strategies that institutions of higher learning can adopt in a bid to be agents of sustainable development.","PeriodicalId":159185,"journal":{"name":"US-China education review","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123324025","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
