A good prediction mechanism of the battery performance has many advantages. For example, it increases the battery lifetime by preventing over (dis)charging the battery, it allows utilizing the entire capacity of the battery, and it offers an access to the user to know the amount of energy in the battery pack. In this paper, some battery models are derived and tested on a commercial Lithium battery cell. The results show the capabilities of these models under different tests.","PeriodicalId":159104,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115057292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such a distribution of control functionalities requires a corresponding device on the customer side that performs or mediates between the energy grid requirements and the customer infrastructure. These Smart Energy Gateways (SEGs) are owned by the energy network operator and but enforce the contracts between network operator and customer for both parties. They can also support additional value-added services. Due to the different uses, SEGs will be exposed to more and other attacks than current end-user devices such as DSL or WLAN routers. The impact of attacks to SEGs is also a peril to the overall operation of the energy grid. This paper provides an approach to the reliable identification of SEGs based on already established industry standards, namely Trusted Computing and Trusted Network Connect.","PeriodicalId":159104,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115565741","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Technological progress has made available a number of different investment alternatives, ranging e.g. from “standard” reinforcements of existing transmission capacities to the installation of Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS). This paper proposes a framework for comparing different investment alternatives. The approach relies on an optimal power flow (OPF), where system security is explicitly considered by means of a novel formulation for a security constrained optimal power flow (SC-OPF). For evaluation purposes several indicators are proposed, such as the loading of transmission lines, the total generation costs and the overall dispatch depending on different consumption levels. In a first case study the installation of shunt and in-series FACTS devices are compared. The paper is concluded with a sample valuation assessing whether to invest in a Thyristor-Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) or in a line reinforcement, i.e. additional line capacity.","PeriodicalId":159104,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116445851","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The designed station is capable to recharge PHEV batteries with capacities lower or equal to 15 kWh from a minimum of 20% to a maximum of 95% of the battery state-of-charge in a maximum duration of 15 minutes. After a battery has been charged, a waiting period (during which no cars are allowed at the charging station) of a maximum duration of 7.5 minutes is required. During this period, the storage devices are being recharged to their maximum. A scenario displaying the charging process of two different PHEV batteries is presented with the simulation results.","PeriodicalId":159104,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116526507","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed approach executes phase balancing by introducing new winding connections in the ordinary two-winding transformer and therefore it provides switch-less operation. The proposed approach is self sufficient and robust in itself such that it may relieve SCADA to take care about the phase unbalance produced in the distribution systems. The effectiveness of the proposed approach has been implemented on several load conditions. The simulation results show that the proposed approach is efficient and promising for phase balancing in distribution networks.","PeriodicalId":159104,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114572932","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, in the actual system, the failure probability has time-varying characteristic due to the influence of the internal system and the external environment. Severity indices are formed by weighting each severity in the system, and weight coefficients are selected based on different focus, with subjective and hypothetical premises. A new assessment method which uses the credibility measure to establish the probability of component failure and global fuzzy security index to measure the severity of the accident is proposed. N-1 contingencies are chosen as initiating event of cascading failure and risk ranking. The results of risk ranking of N-1 contingency analysis is regarded as initiating event of the next simulation layer to obtain collapse sequences. As a case study, RSTS six-bus system is simulated. The obtained results have shown that the proposed method is more accordant to actual power system operating states and it is with better rationality and validity.","PeriodicalId":159104,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting","volume":"228 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122103304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
