Two quadrature overlapping modulations, QORC and PSKRT, are considered. Their performance is compared to QPSK and MSK. In the first system model, the quadrature overlapping modulations perform better than the conventional quadrature modulations due to their power efficiency. In the second model, they do not perform better than the conventional quadrature modulations mainly due to the ISI introduced by multipath fading.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":158681,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ICCS '94","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128548910","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Distributed computing, multimedia mail, walk through virtual reality are just a few examples of applications where the current approaches for traffic control (as foreseen by ITU-TSS) are not suitable. Traffic descriptors (other than maybe peak rates) are difficult to determine for the user. Advance reservation for the duration of a call is difficult to understand in an environment where workstations are connected continuously to a network interface and therefore approaches must be imagined which do not rely on such information.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":158681,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ICCS '94","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132210595","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This concept provides a high degree of flexibility to model protocol entities, because it allows the modeler to combine some functions needed to build a given protocol which will provide a particular level of performance. The functions of a protocol entity are structured inside a library of functions, and are mainly related by means of the precedence relation.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":158681,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ICCS '94","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134150623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The key component for an ATM LAN is an ATM adaptor for attaching a PC or workstation to an ATM switch or hub. We have made a prototype of an adaptor for ATM LANs with a data rate of 100 Mbps (ATM Forum UNI spec. V3.0). We first analyze the basic design requirements for handling ATM communication services. A frame and control structure is proposed to efficiently manage the unbalanced traffic between the uplink and downlink, and the fluctuations of the stations traffic. A prototype for a wireless LAN with a transmission rate of 1.5 Mbits/sec is suggested. It allocates slots to the stations dynamically depending on the traffic, and thus, the idle slots of the idle stations are shared with the heavy traffic stations, so the throughput is increased. As a result of an analysis, it was found that a dynamic transmission speed of between 1 kbits/sec to 1.47 Mbits/sec for each station, with a transmission delay of 0.5 seconds is possible.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":158681,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ICCS '94","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123863027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An important aspect of power combining is the combining efficiency being the ratio of the power delivered to the load to that available from the sources connected to the input. In a practical power combiner, waves incident on the input ports are scattered to all ports including the output port. The paper discusses the effects of port mismatch and finite combiner isolation on combining efficiency. For a lossless power combiner, it is shown that the efficiency may be optimised by optimising the matching at the combiner output.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":158681,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ICCS '94","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124028973","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is found that the tracking performances for both carrier tracking and bit sync depend on the amount of imbalance between +1s and -1s and data asymmetry. Additionally, the average probability of error (or bit error rate, BER) due to the presence of interfering harmonics created by the imperfect data stream is derived for both binary phase-shift-keying (BPSK) and quadri-phase-shift-keying (QPSK) receivers. The effects of imperfect data stream, imperfect data-induced carrier tracking phase error and imperfect data-induced bit timing error are considered in the evaluation of the BER.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":158681,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ICCS '94","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117258879","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
