The switch module considered has n inputs and m outputs. A packet destined for a particular output address (out of g) needs to access only one of the r available physical output ports; m=gr. The motivation for the study of these switch modules is that they are the key building blocks in many huge multistage switch architectures. A combination of exact derivation and numerical analysis yields the saturation throughput of input buffered switch modules for a wide range of traffic nonuniformity factors and burstiness. Results show a degradation in the maximum throughput as the average burst length increases and this is found to be true for any traffic nonuniformity factor. Throughput degradation due to head-of-line blocking is found to be the largest when switch modules are symmetric (gr=n). Thus, asymmetric switches tend to diminish the throughput advantage of output-buffered switch modules over input-buffered switch modules and this is true for any combination of input/output traffic imbalance and burst length. Our results also indicate that increasing the number of output ports per output address can significantly improve the switch performance, especially when traffic is highly nonuniform and bursty.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":158681,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ICCS '94","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121121766","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The multi-level domain approach has been adopted for efficient management. This scheme makes it easy to manage a very large communication network. We have introduced the object view interface (OVI) to support the overlapped domain management. The domain interface protocol (DIP) has been defined for the distributed management scheme. The integration of different networks which have different network management scheme can be achieved with the distributed network management system. We have almost finished the implementation of the system and are in the design stage of next version including group communication facility.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":158681,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ICCS '94","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122341924","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, we explore the effect of non-uniform sampling on the spectra of the sampled signals. We then show how non-uniform sampling affects the spectral estimation, when conventional methods are used. Finally, we present an effective neural network scheme and report on some simulation results. The results show that the instantaneous frequency content of the narrow-band signals may be estimated effectively, using low rate non-uniform sampling and the proposed neural network frequency estimation method. One important application of the proposed method is in unambiguous Doppler estimation of target echoes in long range radar with staggered pulse repetition frequency.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":158681,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ICCS '94","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125245424","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Adaptive 2-layered coding, two-step detection, and a two-step recovery with macroblock-based error concealment are proposed to keep the picture quality high by compensating for cell loss. The simulation performance of the proposed system, which includes DCT-based layered coding with temporal error concealment, is compared with 1-layered and fixed 2-layered coding techniques. It is shown that good resilience and SNR improvement can be achieved even at quite high error rates by this system in particular for video sequences with high activity content.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":158681,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ICCS '94","volume":"38 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124385616","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It employs a subband analysis technique to first split the video signal into four temporal subbands. Motion detection is performed to classify the co-sited macroblocks of the subbands into temporal activity (TA) macroblocks or no temporal activity (NTA) macroblocks. The base temporal subband is coded using a H.261-like (European COST 211 ter SIM3) coder with the motion estimation replaced by a reduced-motion search algorithm. The higher temporal subbands are vector-quantized. The NTA-macroblocks (except in the baseband) are not coded at all. Simulation results are presented at 9.6 kbits/s at five frames per second for a typical videoconferencing sequence. Comparisons are made with results obtained by the SIM3 coder.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":158681,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ICCS '94","volume":"75 1-4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132654739","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to guarantee a fair sharing of the extra capacity created by erased slots, a special protocol called reuse protocol should be considered. An efficient reuse protocol for DQDB slot reuse is proposed. Based on computer simulation, it is observed that this new reuse protocol can efficiently transfer the extra capacity from downstream nodes to upstream nodes, which results in a fair sharing of the extra resources and provides a good performance in access delay as well as slot throughput.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":158681,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ICCS '94","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133544840","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Present network evaluation methods remains almost at the level of qualitative evaluation, because many evaluation elements can not be quantified. An integrated computer network evaluation algorithm is presented. It is based on three mathematical models, and is suitable for the multilevel, multitype and no-definition characteristics of network evaluation. The HGF algorithm is based on the analytic hierarchy process, Grey system theory and fuzzy mathematics.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":158681,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ICCS '94","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130522722","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, the authors propose a low-delay multiple access scheme, called shared time-division duplexing (STDD), which allows both the uplink and downlink traffic to share a common channel, thereby achieving high statistical multiplexing gain even with a low population of simultaneous conversations. Typically with a total capacity of 1 Mbaud, 2 ms frame and 8 kbaud speech rate, low delay STDD is able to support 48 pairs of users compared to 38, 35 and 16 for TDMA with speech activity detection, basic TDMA and PRMA respectively. This corresponds to respective gains of 26%, 37% and 200%.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":158681,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ICCS '94","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116679747","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But their near white spectra cannot precisely describe the harmonic characteristics of excitation, especially when dealing with instrumental music. The paper explores the benefits of sinusoidal representation for excitation in the design of analysis-by-synthesis predictive coders. Furthermore, an efficient parameter extraction algorithm has also been developed to identify the associated parameters of the sinusoidal components. Simulation results indicate that the proposed multi-sinusoid excitation model allows the implementation of an LPC-based audio coder which delivers near toll quality at the rate of 92.61 kbps.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":158681,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of ICCS '94","volume":"109 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128412115","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
