Depending on the interactions between the DG's control modes and the feeder's step voltage regulators (SVRs), abnormal situations such as the phenomenon known as reverse power tap changer runaway condition may occur. This paper investigates the impact of DG on a distribution network with two cascaded SVRs, both operating in bidirectional mode. Tests were performed using two different control modes of the DG: unity power factor control, which is typically employed, and voltage control. The results obtained from time series power flow simulations show the behaviour of the cascaded SVRs and their effects on the feeder voltage profile. The application of a series resonant converter in a SST allows improvement of its efficiency, through soft switching of the power switches. The present paper proposes a bidirectional topology capable of receiving an AC voltage in its input, and delivers the same AC voltage on its output through a series resonant converter and a push-pull AC-AC converter, with all switches operating with soft switching. The converter has three different switching elements and is capable of adjusting the output voltage level by changing the switching frequency. In this paper, the description of the converter’s operation and simulation results are presented. Moreover, this paper highlights the YPFD efficacy of each luminaire, by reviewing the phytometric concepts in comparison with generic quantic, photometric and typical radiometric systems. This method consists of breaking a pencil lead which has its size and thickness determined carefully in a certain angle in a surface. This break releases energy in the form of elastic stress waves which propagate through the structure and are captured and converted into electrical signals by a sensor fixed to the workpiece surface. The PLB method is very efficient in the characterization of acoustic emission sensors. In this paper, the effect of temperature variation in the acoustic emission sensor response was investigated through the PLB method and digital signal processing. The results show that in the frequency response not only the temperature but also the analyzed frequency bands are factors that influence the amplitude of the signals. The proposed architecture employs two distinct power sources i.e. photovoltaic (PV) modules and the ac utility grid. If rated power is required by the loads i.e. batteries, both sources are responsible for supplying them. Otherwise, if the demanded power is less than that generated by the PV source, the 3LSNPC inverter is responsible for injecting the exceeding amount into the grid. The following advantages can be addressed to the proposed topology: a three-level voltage waveform exists across each leg and the neutral point, while filtering requirements are reduced; the voltage stresses on all semiconductors are equal to half of the total dc-link voltage; power factor is nearly unity in any operation mode; and the voltages across the dc-link capacitors are balanced. However, it aggregates regarding the existence of 18 switches, while the peak input voltage must be less than or equal to half of the total output voltage so that high power factor is obtained. In order to verify the operating principle of the converter, the current and voltage control loops are properly designed according with the following specifications: rms input voltage of 220 V; total output voltage of 800 V, power processed of 15 kW; and grid frequency of 60 Hz. However, the presence of the distributed generation can degrade the precision of this kind of procedure. To get superior quality results, one can do the analysis using the electromagnetic transients of current or voltage since they are less affected by the presence of distributed generation. The electromagnetic time reversal method is more used in non-homogeneous environments to emphasize a wave at a point with excellent precision and locate sources that produce perturbations in a specific domain. The basic idea of the electromagnetic time reversal is to use the property of time reversibility of the wave equation. This property allows a reversion in the time domain of the transients, observed in strategic points of the system, to evidence the location of the related electromagnetic energy. This work presents an evaluation of the electromagnetic time reversal method (EMTR) for locating faults in underground distribution networks. Teodorescu","doi":"10.1109/INDUSCON.2018.8627199","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/INDUSCON.2018.8627199","url":null,"abstract":"The modular multilevel converters (MMCs) have shown great emphasis in academic studies of the last decades, specially applied in renewable energy systems, HVDC systems, energy storage, electrical drives and STATCOMs. In STATCOM applications, in particular, the Double Star (DS) configuration has several operating advantages, mainly related to its ability to compensate negative sequence components and unbalanced currents. Considering the advantage of these topologies in STATCOM application, it is proposed in this work a comparison of two DS topologies: Double Star Chopper-Cell (DSCC) and Double Star Bridge-Cell (DSBC). These topologies are compared in terms of steady-state operation, power losses and costs. In addition, two variations of DSBC topology are approached: DSBC-2L, which employs 2-level modulation and DSBC-3L, which employs 3-level modulation. The three MMC topologies are designed based on a 15 MVA STATCOM connected in a 13.8 kV grid.
