The randomness and uncertain nature associated with the generation of stochastic resources further increase the complexity of the problem. In this paper, an optimal bidding strategy is developed for a Generation Company (GENCO) to participate in a day ahead electricity market, taking into account conventional and stochastic generation resources. GENCO tries to maximize the profit and minimize the risk associated with the uncertainty of stochastic generation and market price. An optimal bidding strategy is developed to participate in a day-ahead market to achieve GENCO owner maximized profit and reduced risk for the system operator. The problem is formulated as a fuzzy Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP).","PeriodicalId":156295,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128106126","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each cloud node, whether a server, or a disk array or a network element can be modeled according to a generalized single node queuing model, with appropriate parameterization and multiple job class definitions. The queuing model is solved for each node using an approximate mean value analysis technique (AMVA). The solver computes resource utilizations, response times, throughputs and delays and identifies bottlenecks. It is very fast, parametric and scalable to suit the analysis of large scale cloud infrastructures and data centers or server farms. An interactive and batch model solver and simulator have been developed to simulate job assignment and consolidation for energy efficiency, by solving the proposed model for up to 500.000 cloud nodes and several millions of jobs in a few minutes. SLAs and virtual memory restrictions are optionally considered, too. The scalability and speed of this cloud modeling technique and model solver make it a unique tool for studying problems and algorithms related to job migrations for very large cloud infrastructures. A sample set of preliminary experimental results are presented to validate the behavior of the model and the tool.","PeriodicalId":156295,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125720106","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this contribution, a Nonlinear Model Predictive Control (NMPC) approach is proposed to move the end-effector of the robot to a desired pose (3D position and orientation), along a geometric reference path or along a reference trajectory while considering obstacles. Due to the underlying general robot model, the control algorithm is applicable to both fixed and mobile manipulators, which is shown by means of simulations of a 7 DoF fixed manipulator and of a 10 DoF mobile manipulator.","PeriodicalId":156295,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131379770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The goal is to find a good scheme for an image database suitable for use in developing a system to aid breast disease diagnostics. In particular, to use infrared images in the screening and postoperative follow-up in the UFF university hospital, and to combine this with other types of image based diagnoses. Seven wavelet types (Biorthogonal, Coiflets, Daubechies, Haar, Meyer, Reverse Biorthogonal and Symmlets) with various vanishing moments (such as Symmlets, where this number goes from 2 to 28, Daubechies from 1 to 45 and Coiflets 1 to 5) comprising a total of 108 different variations of wavelet functions are compared in a denoising scheme to explore their difference with respect to image quality. Three groups of Additive White Gaussian Noise levels (σ = 5, 25 and 50) are used to evaluate the relations among the approaches to threshold the wavelet coefficient (hard or soft), and the image quality after transformation-denoising-storage-decompression. Levels of decomposition are investigated in a new thresholding scheme, where the decision about the coefficient to be eliminated considers all variation, aiming for the best quality of reconstruction. Eight images of the same type and resolution are used in order to find the mean, median, range and standard deviation of the 432 combinations for each level of noise. Moreover, three evaluators (Normalized Cross-Correlation, Signal to Noise Ratio and Root Mean Squared Error) are considered for recommendation of the best possible combination of parameters.","PeriodicalId":156295,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"157 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132460022","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is common to discuss what calibration means, techniques, and algorithms can be utilized and implemented. For cost-effective measurement units it is desirable to use calibration means and approaches which are not expensive yet capable of providing sufficient accuracy. This paper thus focuses on multi-sensor inertial measurement unit which utilizes a modified sensor frames. Unlike the common IMUs which consist of 3-axial accelerometer and gyroscope frames, the proposed concept of the multi-sensor unit consists of ten modified accelerometer frames supplemented by an unmodified gyro frame. The modified frames of accelerometers are optimized for differential analogue signal processing in order to increase signal-to-noise ratio and hence overall sensing precision. Since the proposed concept of the measurement unit includes higher number of sensing frames it is required to develop a novel “easy to do and implement” calibration method which is the contribution of this paper. The proposed calibration approach was experimentally verified and results confirmed its usability.","PeriodicalId":156295,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126573436","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed method estimates the rotor flux angle and magnitude in rotor reference frame by using measured stator currents, rotor angle and rotor time constant. The performance of the proposed method is compared to the performance of the voltage based estimator which is commonly used flux estimation method in sensorless field oriented vector control (FOC). The pure integrator in voltage based estimator is replaced by a low-pass filter with adaptive compensation and a phase locked loop (PLL) based position controller. Both methods are implemented in a digital control system and verified on the laboratory model. Experimental setup consists of a squirrel-cage induction machine (560 kW) connected to the grid via back-to-back converter and a permanent magnet machine (375 kW) driven by the industrial frequency converter and used as a wind turbine emulator. The advantages and disadvantages of the proposed method are demonstrated by experiments.","PeriodicalId":156295,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131007163","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
