About 30% of Indian adults have hypertension, while over one-fourth use some form of tobacco. So, the present study aimed to determine the prevalence and patterns of tobacco consumption and identify associated socio-demographic factors among hypertensive patients in urban India and also further explored patient perspectives regarding tobacco use through qualitative interviews.

Materials and methods: This mixed-method study was conducted among 305 hypertensive adults recruited from an urban tertiary hospital using interviewer-administered questionnaires. Additionally, 15 tobacco-consuming patients were purposively sampled for in-depth interviews regarding perceptions and behaviors related to tobacco. Descriptive statistics and multi-variable logistic regression models were applied for quantitative analysis and thematic analysis for qualitative data.

Results: The prevalence of ever tobacco use among hypertensive patients was 21%. Smokeless tobacco was the predominant form used. Male gender, urban locality, illiteracy, and lack of knowledge about tobacco hazards had a higher likelihood of tobacco consumption. Qualitative interviews provided complementary insights into triggers like peer influences and stress, barriers to quitting including withdrawal effects and system gaps, and participant perspectives on facilitating cessation.

Conclusion: Tobacco consumption among hypertensives is higher than national averages. Tailored educational, motivational, and policy-level interventions addressing gaps in knowledge, risk perceptions, addiction behaviors, and cessation support systems can enable the promotion of tobacco abstinence and hypertension control in this vulnerable sub-group. The multi-method data provide actionable inputs for planning targeted control and prevention strategies addressing this dual burden.
","PeriodicalId":15581,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Education and Health Promotion","volume":"13 ","pages":"380"},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2024-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC11657896/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142864305","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this research was to determine the MDS for a blockchain-based PHR system that can effectively interact with family medicine providers and collect and share qualified data. This MDS is intended to be applicable to all members of the community covered by family medicine.

Materials and methods: This applied study was conducted in 2022 in a cross-sectional and descriptive approach in three phases. In the first phase, a content analysis related to the research objectives was conducted in scientific databases, search engines, and websites of the centers and scientific research organizations with publications and policy-making in this field. Consequently, 11 studies were selected for use in the second and third phases. In the second phase, to determine information needs, a researcher-developed questionnaire including 17 classes was given to 50 people under the cover of the family medicine plan in Shiraz city. By choosing one of the two options \"Yes\" or \"No\" by them, the necessary data classes were determined. In the third phase, the second researcher-developed questionnaire was designed and administered to 100 family physicians in Shiraz city. This questionnaire included the data elements corresponding to the data classes approved in the previous phase. The family physicians were asked to rate the importance of each data element using a Likert scale with five options, ranging from \"very unimportant\" to \"very important.\" The necessary data elements were determined based on these scores.

Results: In the first questionnaire, 16 of the 17 data classes received approval from individuals covered by the family medicine plan. Consequently, a questionnaire comprising 16 classes and 105 data elements was administered to the family physicians. Ultimately, the MDS was determined to include 16 classes and 72 data elements.

Conclusions: Determining essential data elements, especially for patient/physician interaction in family medicine, should be such that they can be managed by the person while being comprehensive and providing sufficient help to the physician during the treatment process. This MDS can be used to interact with and refer PHRs to other physicians and specialists, as well as help interoperability between the PHR and other health systems, such as hospital information systems (HIS) and electronic health records (EHRs).
","PeriodicalId":15581,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Education and Health Promotion","volume":"13 ","pages":"389"},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2024-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC11657911/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142864012","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This raises a question about the caregivers' needs and concerns and the extent to which they receive medical or psychological attention during caregiving. This scoping review examines the psychosocial interventions conducted in India for caregivers of children with NDDs. The search strategy involved analyzing published literature on interventions for caregivers of children with NDDs in India from online databases from 2013 to March 2023. Sixteen intervention studies were identified and categorized into child-centric, caregiver-centric, and family-based approaches. Most studies were limited to thesis publications and lacked peer-reviewed publications. However, there has been a gradual increase in caregiver-centric intervention studies since 2019, focusing on alleviating distress and promoting caregiver well-being. Approximately 87.5% (14 out of 16 studies) adopted intervention components focusing on the caregiver's outcomes and well-being. It can be concluded from the review that more applied research on caregiver-centric interventions is needed in India, focusing on the caregivers' concerns in depth. The study will provide insights into the importance of practicing caregiver-centric interventions and recommend healthcare providers and policymakers initiate policies, provisions, and programs that benefit the caregiver community.
","PeriodicalId":15581,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Education and Health Promotion","volume":"13 ","pages":"381"},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2024-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC11657899/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142864601","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As it is a source of dangerous diseases, the handlers need to have adequate knowledge about the same.

Materials and methods: This study assessed the knowledge, attitude, and practice of biomedical waste management among healthcare workers in a Primary Health Centre and tested the association between KAP and selected variables. For this study, one PHC among six in Sikkim was purposively selected and all health providers attached with the PHC were assessed for KAP toward BMW Management. Data was summarized using SPSS version 27. Pearson's Chi-square test (or Fisher's exact test) was applied to find the association between KAP and selected variables (P < 0.05 was considered significant). Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed for the significant variables.

Results: The mean age of the study participants ranged from 36.42 ± 8.983 years. 66%, 66%, and 60% of healthcare workers had adequate knowledge scores, favorable attitude scores, and good practice scores in BMWM, respectively.

Conclusion: A knowledge gap was observed among the supportive medical staff as there was a lack of formal training in BMWM. Training of not only medical officers but also for waste handlers should be conducted at the time of appointment as well as refresher trainings should be done for the overall health and safety of all waste handlers.
","PeriodicalId":15581,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Education and Health Promotion","volume":"13 ","pages":"378"},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2024-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC11657893/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142864600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
