The disease has been rarely documented in non-human primates. This report details a disseminated and fatal case of PCM caused by <em>Paracoccidioides brasiliensis</em> in a western black-handed tamarin (<em>Saguinus niger</em>) under human care. Histopathological examination revealed extensive pyogranulomatous inflammation in the lungs, spleen, liver, lymph nodes, kidneys, epididymis, right testicle, heart, adrenal gland and intestines, associated with characteristic yeast forms consistent with <em>Paracoccidioides</em> spp and confirmed by immunohistochemistry. Molecular analysis indicated a high nucleotide similarity with <em>P. brasiliensis</em> sequences for both the <em>18S</em> rRNA and <em>gp43</em> genes. Computed tomography revealed a cranial mediastinal mass, osteolysis of the right second rib and second thoracic vertebra, tracheobronchial and mesenteric lymph node enlargement, pneumonia and pleural effusion. Magnetic resonance imaging detected lesions in the white matter of the right frontal lobe and left cerebral hemisphere with contrast-enhanced T1-weighted images showing demarcated enhancement. On cut section, the surface of the right cerebral frontal lobe and left cerebral hemisphere corticomedullary junctions were indistinct and the white matter was discoloured. Microscopically, multicentric granulomatous inflammation was seen in the brain, cranial mediastinal mass, masses on the right second rib, tracheobronchial and mesenteric lymph nodes, heart, kidneys, lungs and oesophagus. Necrosis and hyaline fungal structures were frequently observed in the centre of the granulomas. These fungi had septae, Y-shaped branching and were 2–3 μm in width. Sequence analysis of DNA from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded samples identified the fungi as <em>Schizophyllum commune</em>. Based on these findings, this case was diagnosed as disseminated <em>S. commune</em> infection. The purpose of this study is to help researchers clarify the research direction and prospects of the CAM model. A bibliometric analysis was conducted on the top 100 most cited articles on use of the CAM model in tumour research, retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. Tools such as Bibliometrix, VOSviewer, CiteSpace and Excel were utilized for the visualization network analysis. The 100 articles analysed were mainly from the USA, China and European countries such as Germany and France. Tumour research involving CAM model experiments demonstrated reliability and scientific rigor (average citation count = 156.2). The analysis of keywords, topics and subject areas revealed that the applications of this model ranged from the biological characteristics of tumours to molecular mechanisms and signaling pathways, to recent developments in nanotechnology and clinical applications. Additionally, nude mouse experiments have been more frequently performed in recent years. We conclude that the CAM model is efficient, simple and cost-effective, and has irreplaceable value in various aspects of cancer research. The main types of tumours diagnosed in the bull penis are fibropapilloma and squamous cell carcinoma. The aim of this study was to characterize a case of a tumour in the glans penis of a bull from a dairy farm in Santa Fe, Argentina. The neoplastic tissue was stained with haematoxylin and eosin and then analysed by immunohistochemistry to reveal its characteristic phenotype. Results showed positivity to vimentin, neuron specific enolase, proliferating cell nuclear antigen, S100 and glial fibrillary acidic protein. We carried out a retrospective and comparative analysis of the incidence of reproductive tract and mammary tumours and tumour-like lesions collected from 103 pet rabbits, 75 pet rats, 71 guinea pigs, 12 mice, 11 hamsters, eight African pygmy hedgehogs, four ferrets and two chinchillas. The results indicate that uterine tumours and tumour-like lesions are common in pet rabbits, guinea pigs and African pygmy hedgehogs. In pet rabbits, the most common uterine tumour was endometrial adenocarcinoma, while in guinea pigs benign lesions predominated (ie, leiomyoma, endometrial adenoma, cystic endometrial hyperplasia and deciduoma). Uterine tumours in African pygmy hedgehogs included adenosarcomas and endometrial polyps. Ovarian lesions were found only in guinea pigs (ovarian rete adenomas, rete cysts) and African pygmy hedgehogs (mostly granulosa cell tumours), while testicular tumours were diagnosed in pet rabbits, one pet rat and one guinea pig. Mammary tumours were common in pet rabbits, pet rats, guinea pigs, mice, hamsters and African pygmy hedgehogs. In pet rats, the most common mammary tumour was fibroadenoma, while in other animals carcinomas predominated. In guinea pigs and, to a lesser extent, in pet rats, a significant percentage of mammary tumours occurred in males. Guinea pigs seem to be predisposed to mammary tumours of ductal origin. Computed tomography identified a mass in the right nasal cavity. Histologically, the mass was composed of sheets and indistinct clusters of predominantly clear or vacuolated round to polygonal cells; periodic acid–Schiff staining revealed glycogen granules within some tumour cells. Immunohistochemical labelling revealed that the tumour cells were immunopositive for vimentin and S100 and negative for pancytokeratin, Melan-A and PNL2, supporting a diagnosis of a clear cell variant of chondrosarcoma (CCC). Although the dog was treated with meloxicam, the owners opted for euthanasia 9 days after presentation. The aims of this investigation were to characterize malignant skin neoplasms in adult goats reared in Sicily, Italy, and to evaluate potential correlations between gross and histopathology features of the tumours and signalment, tumour location and/or viral infections. A total of 75 malignant skin masses were examined. In selected animals with perineal masses (n = 28) virological and serological investigations on tissues and blood were also conducted. According to the histological features, the lesions were classified as 67 squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) (of which 65 were located in the perineum), six melanomas and two fibrosarcomas. In three cases, neoplasms at the base of the horn were associated with nasal polyps. Among the selected perineal SCCs, papillomaviruses (PVs), caprine herpesvirus 1 and parapoxvirus were not detected on polymerase chain reaction or on serological examination. On clinical examination, the animal was much smaller than expected and had hair similar to that of puppies and areas of hyperpigmentation on the head and dorsocervical and dorsothoracic cranial regions. Radiographic examination revealed fractures in both femurs and severe generalized osteoporosis. Given the unfavourable prognosis, the animal was euthanized. Necropsy revealed generalized pallor, muscular atrophy of the pelvic limbs and little reserve of subcutaneous adipose tissue. Both femurs had complete and closed diaphyseal fractures. The second lumbar vertebra was severely reduced in length as a result of a fracture, with dorsal displacement of the vertebral body towards the vertebral canal and compression of the spinal cord. Long bones and vertebrae had severe cortical thinning, enlargement of the medullary canal and reduced resistance. The thyroid gland was not in its normal anatomical location. A pale red nodule (1.0 × 0.4 cm) in the serosa of the middle third of the trachea, close to the thoracic entrance, was confirmed as ectopic thyroid tissue. Microscopically, the bones had evidence of growth arrest and severe osteoporosis. The ectopic thyroid nodule was hyperplastic with severe hypertrophy of follicular cells. The spinal cord was compressed by vertebral fractures and had focally extensive and severe myelomalacia. Treatment strategies based on the suppression of this pathway are possible for tumours expressing PD-1/PD-L1. In this context, FISSs were histologically classified, the grade of sarcoma and the intensity of lymphocyte infiltration determined and PD-1 and PD-L1 expression evaluated in tumours of different grade. Tumours were immunolabelled for vimentin, S100, smooth muscle actin and sarcomeric actin. Fibrosarcoma was diagnosed in eight cases, undifferentiated sarcoma in one case, liposarcoma in one case and rhabdomyosarcoma in one case. PD-1 expression was found mainly in lymphoid infiltrations and macrophage-like cells, while PD-L1 was found primarily in tumour cells and infiltrated macrophage-like cells. By Pearson correlation analysis, tumour differentiation was found to have a moderate correlation with PD-1 (<em>P</em> &lt;0.05) and a high correlation with PD-L1 (<em>P</em> &lt;0.01). Tumour grade had a low correlation with PD-1 and a moderate correlation with PD-L1 (<em>P</em> &gt;0.05). A moderate correlation was also detected between PD-1 and PD-L1 (<em>P</em> &lt;0.05). However, little is known about immunophenotypes and the importance of inflammation as prognostic factors in these neoplasms. The objective of the present study was to characterize the immunophenotype and degree of inflammation in the solid type of canine mammary neoplasm and to investigate their association with metastasis, Ki-67 index, tumour size, necrosis and survival. Sixty-five carcinomas with solid pattern, basaloid carcinomas, solid papillary carcinomas, malignant adenomyoepitheliomas (MAMEs) or malignant myoepitheliomas (MMEs) were investigated. Luminal A, luminal B HER2 negative and HER2 positive, HER2 overexpressed and triple negative immunophenotypes were immunolabelled as were Ki-67 protein and cyclooxygenase-2 (Cox-2). Histological peritumoural and intratumoural inflammatory infiltrates were graded (distribution × intensity) and the presence of necrosis identified. We found a statistical difference between histological types and immunophenotypes, with MME and MAME having a higher occurrence of luminal A, whereas most neoplasms had the luminal B HER-negative immunophenotype. There was no correlation between immunophenotype and degree of peri- and intratumoural inflammation, nodal metastasis, necrosis or tumour size. An increased degree of peri- and intratumoural inflammation was significantly associated with lymph node metastasis, and more severe intratumoural inflammation was associated with the presence of tumour necrosis. Tumour size, Ki-67 index and Cox-2 score were not associated with inflammation in either peri- or intratumoural regions.
