However, conventional face detection algorithms are too costly or not robust for consumer use. Thus, in this paper, we propose a novel viewer detection algorithm for real-time viewer identification in the intelligent DTV. In the proposed algorithm, a viewer is detected by using our proposed modified codebook (MCB) method, and then the face region is extracted by using the normalized horizontal and vertical histogram from the detected person. Based on the LCRQ codes, the proposed method divides the 2-D DCT into residue-based module and quotient-based module for realizing the DCT computations. The proposed algorithm uses the Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) method on the position probability grid. In addition, the proposed algorithm detects and compensates the large RSS measurement errors by using the Min-Max algorithm in obstructed environments. The performance of the proposed system was verified with ZCPA feature, which is known to have noise robust characteristic in speech recognition application. In addition, new indexing and fast retrieval method were proposed to improve retrieval speed about 99% compare to exhaustive retrieval for large music DB.
