Combined signal processing creates a strong capture effect at a packet radio terminal by automatically steering the receive antenna pattern (AP) toward one packet and nulling other contending packets in a slot. Moreover, if in a main beam AP an one interfering packet gets, it can be suppressed by the polarization filter. Dubinko","doi":"10.1109/ICSC.1996.865392","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ICSC.1996.865392","url":null,"abstract":"The paper describes a new approach for designing navigational satellite receivers, which allows the processing of satellite signals by hardware only, without a need for any software processing, including the convolution of the Glonass satellite frequencies. On the basis of this approach a receiver was designed and manufactured, using ASIC technology - a highly specialized hardware digital satellite signal processor, which does not require software signal processing. The measured values of navigational parameters and the satellite message are fed from the ASIC output directly-to the navigational processor. The paper describes the general receiver architecture but also provides a detailed description of the following main receiver hardware units: . digital PLL; . DLL with carrier aided pseudorange measurement; . narrow space correlator. The paper demonstrates that these units function in accordance with optimal (or near optimal signal processing algorithms and have some advantages if compared with the existing traditional solutions. The major innovations obtained during this study are being patented. The series of synchronized oscillations of partial carrier frequencies is used, each of which is modulated by broadband signal with similarl communication message. Radiation and reception are executed by antenna arrays with non-equidistant located aerial elements of various frequency components. Nonequality of space delays of various frequency components is compensated by adaptive search and tracking systems. The growth of interference protection is reached at the expense of increase of signal base and use of various frequency bands. The application of narrow-band circuitry re suits in the equipment simplicity and provides high efficiency. The defect by interference or failure in operation of part of the channels slightly worsen the quality of communication messages. The recommendations on the choice of system characteristics are formulated.
