One of the most abnormal conditions in a generator is loss of excitation (LOE) which is harmful to both the generator and the power system. This condition should be detected and the generator isolated from the system to avoid generator damage as well as power system instability. \u0000This work presents an experimental study and comparison of the two conventional LOE protection schemes, negative-offset and positive-offset mho element under different conditions. The results show that the two schemes can detect LOE fault under total or partial LOE conditions, however in terms of speed (fault detection time) the positive offset scheme is faster than the negative offset scheme under all loading conditions. Besides, the two LOE protection schemes are reliable and do not operate under power swing disturbances caused by any type of external faults.

In order to improve system stability, these devices can be deployed along the feeder to reduce, or even eliminate, the uncertainty about the fault location. The number and location of FPIs affects the network reliability that can lead to extra charge on the distribution companies as well as the consumers. In this work, the optimal number and location of fault passage indicators in Power Distribution Networks (PDN) are determined. The problem is cast as an optimization task with a special economical combined objective function and solved using the genetic algorithms. In order to attain the rated service life and the longest possible run time of a battery, it is necessary to be monitored and maintained. This needs for an effective real-time characterization platform. Therefore, this paper presents a new frame work of a real-time battery monitoring system that will be able to provide the user with battery parameters as well as a recording file of the instantaneous variables values. To perform this task, a PC based platform associated with acquisition board is developed to automate the battery characterization system. \u0000A graphical user interface (GUI) that allows users to read the Open Circuit Voltage (OCV), current, and ambient temperature of the battery during its charging or discharging is developed using Labview software. It is easy and possible for data to be recorded, including voltage, current, during both charging and discharging process. These recording experimental data can be used for a precise and efficient estimation of the state of charge as well as for aging study.

The attitude control requirements as well as the pointing accuracy must be maintained during the station-keeping maneuver in order to assure the mission services. The propulsion system (chemical thrusters) is used to control both the orbit control (station keeping) and the attitude control where the ON/OFF thrusters pulses are managed using Bang-Bang controller with dead-band technique. A composite control scheme is designed by combining a composite disturbance observer (CDO) with feed-forward controller. First, a CDO is constructed to estimate the lumped disturbances, where the lumped disturbances in the system are equivalent into two parts: a slow varying disturbance and periodic disturbance. Then a PD controller is adopted to stabilize the system and restrain the residue disturbance. Finally, the simulation results for flexible satellite verify that the proposed method can make the satellite asymptotically stable and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Nevertheless, this type of control has an essential inconvenience, which is the chattering phenomenon caused by the discontinuous control part. In order to reduce the effects of the chattering phenomenon, second order sliding mode (SOSM) seems to be a very attractive solution. To eliminate the remains of chattering phenomenon, a new control scheme based on fuzzy second order sliding mode control (FSOSMC) is proposed in this paper. This fuzzy second order sliding mode controller is destined to the speed control of doubly fed induction motor (DFIM) which is based on the decoupling control to enhance robustness under different operating conditions such as load torque and in the presence of parameters variation. \u0000The simulation results for various scenarios show the performances of the proposed control in terms of, precision, rapidity and stability for the high powers DFIM operating at variable speeds.

Solar radiation data plays a major role in the expansion of this energy. However, the unavailability of these data due to the reduced number of meteorological stations has imposed the use of various solar radiation estimation and prediction models. Moreover, the geostrategic location of Algeria, its enormous area and its huge solar potential places it among the promising solar energy countries. The main objective of this part is to review the studies done upon estimation and assessment of solar radiation for Algerian sites. Different techniques are proposed including semi-empirical models, satellite imaging and solar maps.
