DSME facilitates increasing the knowledge and skills of people with diabetes to be able to manage diabetes care independently. This study is to analyze differences in knowledge, physical activity, and dietary compliance with the provision of Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME). A pre-experimental study with one group pretest-posttest design was conducted on 23 patients with type 2 DM, was carried out at a special DM clinic at Fatmawati Hospital, Jakarta. Subjects were selected by consecutive sampling and received an education with the DSME method 6 times for 6 weeks. Data were analyzed by paired t-test to determine the difference between the mean of variables. There were significant differences before and after the DSME intervention in knowledge (p =0.000), physical activity (p= 0.001) , and diet compliance (0.000). This study showed that there was a significant increase in outcome data of patients who have been given the intervention of the Diabetes Educator team. To increase access to DSME for patients, family support and motivation from the Diabetes Educator team are needed.","PeriodicalId":153750,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Social Determinants of Health","volume":"440 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115635340","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ferdina, Wulan Sari Rasna Giri Sembiring","doi":"10.5220/0010759900003235","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5220/0010759900003235","url":null,"abstract":": There has been evolving evidence that waist-to-height ratio (WtHR) may be a better obesity index compared to body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC). We would like to compare the performance of those indices in identifying the risk of several chronic diseases among the adult population in Kalimantan, Indonesia. This is a cross-sectional study using data from the latest Basic Health Research (Riskesdas). Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to investigate the odds ratios (OR) relating three obesity indices (BMI, WC, and WtHR) to diabetes mellitus (DM), heart disease, chronic kidney disease (CKD), and high blood pressure (HBP). High WtHR (>0.5) was found to have significant relationships with the aforementioned diseases. Among the investigated indices, high WtHR had the highest OR in relation to DM (3.365; 95% CI 2.707-4.182), CKD (1.935; 95% CI 1.309-2.861), and HBP (2.008; 95% CI 1.866-2.160). Its OR for heart disease (1.549; 95% CI 1.247-1924) was just slightly lower than the OR of high WC (1.589; 95% CI 1.277-1.979). Meanwhile, BMI was significant only for DM and HBP. High BMI consistently showed the lowest OR values among the three indices. These results suggest that chronic diseases can be predicted better by the measurement of WtHR.","PeriodicalId":153750,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Social Determinants of Health","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125717227","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The traditional herbal is a product of traditional Indonesian ingredients that have been developed in the community and used from generation to generation. Meanwhile, the infused water is water in which there are pieces of fruits, vegetables, or spices so that the water has a distinctive aroma, flavour, and colour according to the ingredients infused in the water. The efficacy of using turmeric-tamarind infused water and traditional herbal still largely based on empirical data. Several studies related to the antioxidant activity of turmerictamarind infused water and traditional herbal are still limited. This study aimed to determine the antioxidant activity of turmeric tamarind in infused water and traditional herbal products using the DPPH method. The percentage of inhibition and IC50 were measured. The results showed that turmeric-tamarind traditional herbal was known to be a strong antioxidant (IC50 value of 94.21 ppm), and turmeric-tamarind infused water was included in the moderate antioxidant group (IC50 value 142,08 ppm). Based on the statistical test, it can be concluded that there was a significant difference in IC50 value between turmerictamarind traditional herb and turmeric-tamarind infused water.","PeriodicalId":153750,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Social Determinants of Health","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122840724","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
