Oral cancer is the eighth most common cancer in the world. Oral cancer is a multifactorial disease- smoking, betel-nut and betel-leaf chewing habit, bad oral hygiene, and drinking alcohol are the most important factors associated with oral cancer Objectives: To identify the risk factors of oral cancer in a tertiary level hospital in Bangladesh. Methods: A total of 52 patients, aged between fifth to seventh decades, were included in this observational type of cross-sectional study. The study was conducted over the period of six months, from March to August, 2016, in the department of ENT & Head Neck surgery in Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Dhaka. Patients were randomly assigned to one of three groups by card sampling. Results: Among the 52 patients with oral cavity carcinoma, 30(57.69%) were males and 22(42.31%) females. Most patients were from rural areas (30, 57.69%), including agricultural workers 17(32.69%), daily labourers (5, 9.62%), fishermen (3, 5.77%) and others (5, 9.62%). High-risk habits were prevalent among the cases, with 24(46.14%) engaged in Pan (betel leaf) chewing and 15(28.85%) in smoking. Clinical features included ulceration, neck lump, pain, swelling, dysphagia, and bleeding. The most affected areas were buccal mucosa (19, 36.54%) and oral tongue (14, 26.92%). Histopathologically, 27(42.31%) were well-differentiated, 22(51.92%) moderately differentiated, and 3(5.77%) poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. The study provides insights into the demographics and characteristics of oral cavity carcinoma patients. Conclusion: Personal habits like pan, betel-nut, tobacco chewing, ignorance, lack of proper education of oral hygiene, lack of medical facilities and poor referral system are the common factors for aggressiveness of the disease. Among the poisonous substances, Organophosphorus compounds (OPC) poisoning is more common. Easy accessibility of the poison is the number one reason for the preference of OPCs as suicidal agents. Objective: This study was designed to find out demographic characteristics and postmortem findings related to suicide by OPC poisoning in Manikganj. Methodology: This retrospective cross-sectional study was carried out during January, 2019 to December, 2020 in the district hospital, Manikganj, Bangladesh. Results: During the study period, a total of 381 medico-legal autopsy have been done- among them, 83 (21.78%) cases were death due to OPC poisoning. Maximum (24, 28.91%) deaths were between ages of 21-30 years, among them majority were males (49, 59.03%). People of different occupations were involved in OPC poisoning- maximum of them were housewives (27, 32.53%), followed by agricultural workers (13, 15.66%). Regarding motive of poisoning, the most common was suicidal intent (58, 69.88%) among both males (22, 37.93%) and females (36, 62.07%), followed by accidental (25, 30.12%). About one third of the cases were illiterate (26, 31.33%). Financial constraint was the main cause of suicide. Conclusion: OPC poisoning is a burning problem in our health sector. Improvement of awareness, elimination of unemployment, financial stability, limiting availability and banning more toxic compounds would reduce the OPC poisoning rate to a considerable number. The situation of COVID-19 has become threatening physically for smokers as it is also a respiratory related disease and it can also help altering smoking behaviour because of perception towards this pandemic. Objective: The objectives of this study were to investigate changes in cigarette smoking behaviour during COVID-19 among the adult smokers of Bangladesh according to perception towards COVID-19, and assess association between changes in cigarette smoking behaviour and perception towards COVID-19. Methodology: An online descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted during 16 April, 2021 to 30 April, 2021 using anonymous Google form. Only adult Bangladeshi cigarette smokers were included in this study. Descriptive and co-relational analyses were conducted using SPSS-28.0. Results: Among 373 valid responses, 259(69.43%) reported change in smoking behaviour during COVID-19. Some 313(83.91%) cigarette smokers perceived risk of being infected by COVID-19 and 30(8.04%) smokers were infected by COVID-19. Many (187, 50.13%) participants perceived that smokers have higher risk of contracting infection. In addition, 292(78.28%) smokers believed that smoking can cause more complications if infected, 182(48.79%) felt worried about their smoking behaviour and 225(60.32%) participants thought of lessening smoking during COVID-19. Majority (229, 61.39%) of the respondents tried to quit smoking. Patterns of change in cigarette smoking during COVID-19 were significantly associated with both perceived risks of higher contractibility (p=.001) and higher physical complications (p=.004). Conclusion: Percentage of people with changed smoking behaviour during COVID-19 was very high. Perception towards adverse impact of COVID-19 on smoking behaviour may lead to this change.
