Common trigger foods include fruits, vegetables, and nuts, and when consumed, they result in oropharyngeal pruritis, tingling, and edema. Here, we report the case of a 28-year-old female with a history of allergy and exercise-induced asthma who presented with oral urticaria, lower lip edema, and tingling of the lips, mouth, and tongue after switching her daily consumption of whole-wheat bread to sprouted-grain bread. The patient discussed the symptoms with her pharmacist, who suggested OAS as a possible diagnosis and an elimination diet as an initial treatment. She removed fruits and vegetables from her diet, but coincidentally noticed that the ingestion of sprouted-grain bread consumed only during her work week triggered the reaction. The diagnosis of OAS and the implementation of an elimination diet that excluded the spouted-grain brea...","PeriodicalId":15244,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asthma & Allergy Educators","volume":"8 1","pages":"57-59"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75543953","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These students enter the workforce starting at age 18 as young adults, and specifically in cosmetology after completing the State of New Jersey mandated 2-part licensing exam (theory and practical). The New Jersey Safe Schools Task Force 2010-2012 focused on potential safety and health (S&H) risks encountered by minors training in cosmetology. We conducted a stakeholder-driven participatory process with relevant state and federal agencies, private sector partners, teachers, administrators, and students from 1-in-3 of 21 county CTE school districts. We developed and disseminated Web pages (http://www.njsafeschools.org/Cosmetology.htm) with science-based information, materials such as “Right to Know” brochures in multiple languages (English, Spanish), and student-designed educational posters. Resources highlight S&H issues such as chemical exposures, including known environmental and occupa...","PeriodicalId":15244,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asthma & Allergy Educators","volume":"28 1","pages":"67-70"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-02-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85498979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Body distress is offered as a mind–body concept with origins in psychobiological patient characteristics that are generally not identified as contributing directly to uncontrolled asthma. Dysfunctional breathing can be viewed as a proxy for these patient variables. Effortless or relaxed breathing can be used to guide the reduction of body distress from healing sensations throughout the entire body and support a larger goal of using the least amount of medication possible.","PeriodicalId":15244,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asthma & Allergy Educators","volume":"115 1","pages":"22-27"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79315577","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
