For this aim, an item pool consisted of 50-item was prepared for the study. These scale items were reduced to 29 items after expert review and pilot implementation. This preliminary form was applied to 178 science teachers working in secondary schools in Izmir, Turkey. Validity and reliability studies have been done and Cronbach's Alpha internal consistency coefficient was calculated as .82. The scale is four-dimensional and reveals 67.4% of the total variance. The scale has four sub-scales (Professional Autonomy, Process Autonomy, Assessment Autonomy, and Planning Autonomy). Confirmatory factor analysis results support that the scale consisted of four subscales (RMSEA= .05, CFI= .98, AGFI= .89, RMR= .05, GFI= .93, SRMR= .06).","PeriodicalId":149650,"journal":{"name":"Uluslararası Eğitim Programları ve Öğretim Çalışmaları Dergisi","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128812825","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The translational simultaneous mixed method was used. This study in which quantitative and qualitative methods used together, firstly survey was applied and the semi-structured interviews was done. Data obtained by these data collection tools were analysed simultenously. The participants of this study are 360 parents who are parents of students studying in 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades at a secondary school in İstanbul. Semi-structured interviews were realized with 43 parents chosen from these participants. The questionnaire consists of three dimensions and 66 items. In the analysis of quantitative data percentage, frequency, arithmetic means and one-way variance analysis (ANOVA) were used. Descriptive analysis was used for analysing qualitative data. According to data obtained from the research, parents realized the activities which are related to motivate their children to learning and the activities that parents do with the other education stakeholders more than the activities that parents do for helping their children’s lessons. The academical supporting activities parents do are mostly general ones. The general academical supporting activities parents stated that they do generally are following their children’s homeworks/examinations, encouraging them for studying, researching form different learning sources, doing test, providing appropriate learning environments at home, sending their children to school courses and following their academic scores. The motivational supporting activities parents stated that they do mostly are praising their children when they achieve something, encouraging them when they couldn’t be successful in their lessons and talking about what they do at school. The activities mostly stated by parents that they realized collaboratively with other people and insititutions which are related to their children’s learning are attending parents’ meeting and speaking out their negative and positive thoughts about school and teachers. Parents’ opinions about the supporting activities they realised don’t differ according to their educational levels and occupations but they differ according to their ages. It can be said that younger parents (ages between 20 and 30) do supporting activities more than others.","PeriodicalId":149650,"journal":{"name":"Uluslararası Eğitim Programları ve Öğretim Çalışmaları Dergisi","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114953760","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, convergent parallel mixed methods design comprising both qualitative and quantitative data collection is used. In the qualitative aspect of the needs analysis, in-depth interviews with eight primary school teachers who taught or have been teaching the “Human Rights, Citizenship and Democracy” course in the fourth year of the primary school, three instructors from Department of Classroom Teaching at the Faculty of Education who are teaching a course with similar content and six teacher candidates registered at the 4th grade of the same department were counducted. Based on the interview results, a “Needs Analysis Questionnaire” was developed by the researchers and used for the quantitative dimension. The questionnaire is applied to 80 teacher candidates who are 3rd and 4th grade classroom teacher candidates in a a state university in Istanbul. Qualitative data were analyzed through the content analysis carried out by using NVivo11 analysis software. In the analysis of the quantitative data, a descriptive analysis was made by using SPSS.20 software package. According to results, It is seen that the teacher candidates are barely knowledgeable about the child rights; and that the teacher candidates appreciate the learning outcomes of the course design, and yet they consider themselves quite incompetent for these learning outcomes. Additionaly, the results demonstrated that an education programme on human rights, citizenship and democracy should be offered to the teacher candidates as a must course. In line with the results of the needs analysis, an education programme design model on human rights, citizenship, democracy and child rights is proposed.","PeriodicalId":149650,"journal":{"name":"Uluslararası Eğitim Programları ve Öğretim Çalışmaları Dergisi","volume":"156 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126755702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
