An experimental hydrostatic extrusion device is designed and constructed for that purpose. Billets of Al and Al-SiCp composites with initial diameters of 15 and 20mm and with length of 50 mm are used. Reduction ratios of 43%, 55%, and 75% are performed. The mean extrusion pressure, tensile stress, microstructure and hardness of commercially pure aluminum extrudate are evaluated, as well as, for Al-SiC composites. Microstructure has significant changes after hydrostatic extrusion. The large grains with grain size 600 μm have refined after hydrostatic extrusion for pure Al, Fine precipitate in the direction of extrusion was recognize for Al/SiCP. It is also found that the extrusion improves the mechanical properties of pure Al and Al/SiCP in terms of the tensile strength and hardness. An apparent work hardening behavior was observed in the extrudate, the improvement of mechanical properties is mainly attributed to the fine grain strengthening effects. No cracks for Al/SiCP were observed after hydrostatic extrusion in comparison to conventional method, better surface quality was obtained.","PeriodicalId":149484,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Engineering and Technology (ICET)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116820303","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, a robust algorithm with light-computational load has been developed based on features extracted from histogram of oriented gradients (HOG). A normalization scheme is proposed to obtain scale-invariant robust features using HOG algorithm. Also a novel method for shape detection is proposed using Average Magnitude Difference Function (AMDF) which leads to a rotation-invariant and computationally light shape detection method. It is shown that the proposed method is robust against noise as well. Also it is indicated that the performance of the method is highly satisfactory for implementation on real-life industrial problems.","PeriodicalId":149484,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Engineering and Technology (ICET)","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124627977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The multistandard baseband receiver section consists of two programmable gain amplifiers (PGA1 and PGA2) and a fourth-order LPF filter. The receiver is suitable for Bluetooth/UMTS/WLAN/WiMAX standards. Three different programmable OTA architectures based on second generation current conveyors (CCII) and Current Division Networks (CDNs) are discussed. The programmable OTA with the lowest power consumption, moderate area and has good linearity - better than -50dB HD3- is selected to realize the multi-standard baseband receiver chain. The power consumption of the receiver chain is 6mW. The DC gain varies over a 68dB range with 1MHz to 13.6MHz programmable bandwidth. The receiver baseband chain is realized using 90nm CMOS technology model under ±0.5V voltage supply.","PeriodicalId":149484,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Engineering and Technology (ICET)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125703975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is the case for instance in Denmark, Spain and Germany. This imposes new challenges to the transmission system operators (TSOs). New grid requirements for wind generation are needed. These requirements stipulate that wind farms should contribute to power system control, much as the conventional power stations and focus on wind farm behaviour in case of grid disturbances. Isolation of wind turbines in case of voltage dips is not allowed anymore as low voltage ride through (LVRT) capability is required. This paper will discuss the dynamic behaviour of DFIG based wind turbine under severe three phase voltage dips without and with the usage of crowbar protection system including simulation results to verify the discussion.","PeriodicalId":149484,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Engineering and Technology (ICET)","volume":"200 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115502932","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Other types of hydraulic valves, cylinders and motors can also be tested using the rig. The drive and control systems of the rig are designed so as to match almost all the prevailing types of valves of sizes up to size 32, and cylinders of diameters up to 320 mm diameter from different manufacturers. In the rig the electro hydraulic servo and proportional valves can be driven in accurate closed loop control systems, and the static and dynamic characteristics of these components can be measured and recorded. Economic considerations were taken into account during the design phase of the rig. The hydraulic tank and its accessories, of the low pressure hydraulic power supply system of the hot strip in the plant, were utilized as the tank of the hydraulic power supply unit of the rig. One main sub-plate was designed, manufactured and used for mounting and matching the porting patterns of the different valves, or the sub-plates of valves, to be tested. Special mounting stand was developed to test the cylinders under load. Results of testing some servo valves using the rig are presented.","PeriodicalId":149484,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Engineering and Technology (ICET)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114621781","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Deployment affects the coverage of the network especially in critical applications such as in radiation detection. The contributions of this paper are 1) formulating the radiation detection deployment problem in a mathematical form where optimal solutions could be obtained, 2) utilizing one of the famous heuristic algorithms such as Genetic Algorithms (GA) for large scale deployment problems, 3) due to the importance of radiation detection, the paper focus on some of the characteristics of radiation detection problem including the subareas importance and the some of the sensors characteristics such as sensors' sensing and communication, etc. and 3) introducing a GA and Fuzzy logic as a hybrid solution to the problem in order to control the GA crossover and mutation percentages. Although, the concept of the hybrid algorithm is introduced in this paper for sensor deployment, it could be used to solve many other optimization problems. Through a large set of experiments with different problem settings, the efficiency of the proposed algorithms is verified.","PeriodicalId":149484,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Engineering and Technology (ICET)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129869866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this research a new method for eliminating the Painlevé paradox is proposed. A paradox index is specified and for any specific distance between the fixed pivot and the contact surface, the index changes along a specific curve during the motion. Calculating and monitoring the index specifies how close is the robot from the paradox zone. Whenever the robot is closed enough to the paradox zone the distance between the fixed pivot and the contact surface instantaneously decreases. Hence, the robot goes away from the paradox and the index follows another curve during the subsequent motion. The same action will be repeated till the system reaches the critical height of the pivot height at which the system leaves the surface just before the paradox starts.","PeriodicalId":149484,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Engineering and Technology (ICET)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122263041","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some special cases of fractional order wave equations are shown. Studying the effect of fractional-order derivatives with respect to time on the generalized analysis and fundamentals of the rectangular waveguide is the main focus of this work. The effect of the fractional-order parameters on the waveguide properties is shown. Some of these properties are cutoff frequency and attenuation that are no longer fixed but controllable by the fractional parameters. Also, the intrinsic impedance is shown to be complex in value.
