The output part of the unit is composed of a four-leg three-phase voltage source inverter and a sinusoidal filter. The output part of the power supply unit with help of proposed control system allows to create three-phase symmetrical sinusoidal output voltage under arbitrary load condition (1-phase, 3-phase, linear, non-linear, symmetrical, unsymmetrical) with minimum output voltage distortion. The employed control is based on a set of proportional-resonant (PR) controllers. The method is useful for designing high power density converters utilizing Si-IGBT/SiC-Shottky-barrier-diode (SiC-SBD) or high voltage Si-IEGT/SiC-PiN-diode hybrid pairs. For the exact power loss calculation, an empirical method to extract device model parameters is introduced. The calculation results of the power loss are compared with experimental results, and the good agreements are confirmed. The power converter usually coupled with the fuel cell is used to perform the diagnosis strategy. The main interest of the method presented in this paper is to simultaneously optimize the performances, the cost and the size of the Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC). In this work, we focus on a system including a fuel cell stack coupled with an isolated DC/DC power converter and controlled by a Digital Signal Processor (DSP). These elements associated with measurement sensors and adequate programmings allow the control of the power conversion and the determination of fuel cell health at the same time. The fuel cell harmonic impedance is measured using spectroscopy method for a large frequency range. Using some resonant components, the circuit can be achieved the soft switching capability. Each of the switches in the proposed circuit performs ZV (zero voltage) or ZC (zero current) switching. Thus, the high efficiency characteristic can also be obtained, and then the size of the total system can be reduced. The operational modes of the proposed converter are explained in detail. This control approach permits each H-bridge module supply different power levels, allowing an independent maximum power point tracking of each photovoltaic (PV) panel. Since no intermediate stages such boost DC-DC converters are needed, a high efficient solution is obtained compared to the standard PV converter systems. Additionally, this topology offers other advantages such as the operation at lower switching frequency and low current ripple. The field model consists of: (a) finite element (FE) equations for the magnetic field, (b) equations describing eddy-currents and (c) equations, which describe the currents in the machinepsilas windings. Moreover the FE equations are coupled by the electromagnetic torque to the differential equations of motion. In the presented field-circuit model the flux linkages with the windings are expressed by two components. One component with inductances and the other described by edge or nodal values of the magnetic potential. The FE equations are derived by using the notation of circuit theory. A main objective of the proposed technique is to generate high voltage and control capacitors voltages in all operational conditions. For this purpose, principals of optimized harmonic elimination technique with and without considering switching time are described by mathematical analysis and simulation results. Then, a hysteresis voltage control is analyzed in detail to control capacitors voltages when load impedance changes significantly due to nonlinearity of load such as a plasma reactor. This is shown experimentally in this paper with the help of a 3 kW laboratory test bench able to emulate a hybrid wind/hydro power system. The test bench is equipped of a doubly fed induction generator based small hydro power plant emulator associated with a fixed-speed wind generator emulator. This kind of wind generator is often used in small or medium power isolated networks. The paper gives the theoretical background concerning Power Quality, describes the compensation method and the active filter, the example loads which are compensated and the learning objectives for the students and engineers. Based on understanding Power Quality and its implications the possibilities, limitations and side effects of a shunt active filter, featuring extended static compensator (STATCOM) functionality, are discussed.
