This paper presents a FPGA-based digital control for a DC-DC converter. The main difference from DSP-based solution is that FPGA allows simultaneous execution of all control procedures, enabling high performance and novel control methods. The control algorithm has been developed using a VHDL language or CAD state graphical approach based on the use of logical state diagram. The FPGA switching controller has been designed as simple as possible while maintaining good accuracy and dynamic response. Because of the inimitability of the measured impedance curves, the method is based on the minimum error between the measured curves during operation and precommissioned reference curves. The method can handle alternating and rotating test signals. The capacity of the proposed method is tested on two different standard induction machines, which are not especially designed for sensorless control. This paper investigates whether a similar rationale exists within the field of oscillating water column, wave energy converters. The predicted performance of the various generator options within a typical wave regime is validated by means of a time-domain MATLAB/Simulink model. The suitability or otherwise of brushed machines in the offshore marine environment is examined in detail. This IC includes the digital pulse width modulator (DPWM) module with the dead-time programmability. The average time resolution is 1.22 ns at the clock frequency 25 MHz on 0.6 um process. This resolution is as same as that for the counter-based DPWM with the clock frequency 817 MHz. The chip adopted low impedance metal bump technology for reducing a parasitic interconnection resistance in the power stage. The fabricated chip achieves a low on resistance 9.7 mOmega in the 20 V output LDMOS (@drain current=5 A, gate voltage=5 V). The maximum efficiency is 86.4% at output current 5 A when the input voltage, the output voltage and switching frequency and the dead-time are 12 V, 1.3 V, 780 KHz and 15 ns, respectively. We examine the effects of errors on the steady-state performance of these motors in this paper. It was found that the current amplitude increases when a parameter error is given and the effect of a back EMF parameter error is especially large. We propose a new back EMF parameter adjustment method based on these results. We determined from our simulation and experimental results that the proposed method can compensate for the current increase caused by the parameter error. A theoretical analysis showed that the proposed method is affected by only the daxis inductance parameter Ld. Numerical implementation is based on the finite elements. The influence of the PID controller settings on the actuator operation is shown. In order to find optimal parameters of the system the genetic algorithm is applied. The application of motors with type of protection increased safety, marked as ldquoEEx erdquo, with and without associated safety systems, are analyzed for zone 2. Risk assessment of such applications, based on the requirements of ATEX Directive, is the main part of this paper. There is a specific example which illustrates the results of selection and application of motors with type of protection ldquoEEx erdquo without the application of additional safety systems, which is the traditional approach. Possible application, in special cases, of the mentioned motor with the application of additional safety systems, which is the new approach, is also analyzed. The concept of the new approach is used in cases where diagnostic methods have determined that the basic explosion protection of an ldquoEEx erdquo motor has been undermined. To establish the actual condition of a rotor squirrel cage, a diagnostic method based on the spectrum analysis of the stator current is used. This diagnostic test can ascertain the deteriorated condition of the rotor cage which directly affects its explosion protection. It is shown that in full overmodulation region neither PWM inverter control nor the optimization of switching angles of inverter can ensure the decrease of motor harmonic losses to acceptable values. In the first half of overmodulation region these losses permanently increase leading to considerable values. Therefore the motor voltage region above 85-87% of the inverter maximal possible value is virtually restricted at least for steady state operation. The adaptive speed controller uses fuzzy neural network equipped with additional option for on-line tuning its chosen parameters. In the paper PI-type and sliding-mode fuzzy logic controllers are used as the speed controllers, whose connective weights are trained on-line according to the error between the state variable of the plant and the reference model. The torsional vibrations dumping abilities of the two-mass drive system with the field oriented control of induction motor are tested and compared for both analyzed neuro-fuzzy adaptive controllers. It is shown that torsional oscillations can be successfully suppressed in the proposed control structures, using only one basic feedback from the motor speed.
