The reaction of 2-cyno-4’-bromomethyl biphenyl with1-(4-hydroxy-phenyl)-ethanone resulted in acetophenone derivative of biphenyl-2-carbonitrile. This acetophenone derivative was condensed with substituted aromatic aldehyde in mixed solvent resulted in various substituted chalcones. These chalcones were further cyclized using hydrazine hydrate in presence of glacial acetic acid to produce titled compound derivatives. The chemical structures of synthesized compounds were elucidated by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR FT-IR and mass spectra. Synthesized compounds were screened for their antimicrobial activity by broth dilution method. Out of twelve newly synthesized compounds, eight compounds are found to be equipotent to Ampicillin.","PeriodicalId":14453,"journal":{"name":"International Letters of Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy","volume":"39 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73475659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The operating variables studied were initial biomass dose, initial dye concentration, contact time, pH and temperature. The result revealed that the amount of MB dye uptake, qe (mg/g) increased with an increase in temperature, dye concentration and contact time, but decreased with an increase in adsorbent dosage. Equilibrium data were found to obey Langmuir isotherm for both biomass, showing a monolayer adsorption mechanism. The monolayer sorption capacity of SCB and SCC for MB dye were found to be 1.282mg/g and 1.706mg/g, respectively at 303K. The thermodynamics parameters of the MB / biomass system indicate spontaneous (ΔG◦ <0) and endothermic (ΔH > 0) process. The study show that SCB and SCC which are common environmental wastes can be used for the treatment of MB dye polluted water.","PeriodicalId":14453,"journal":{"name":"International Letters of Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy","volume":"18 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83243177","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mg-Al layered double hydroxide (LDH), anionic or hydrotalcite-like clays consist of positively charged layers and exchangeable anions along with water molecules in the interlayer space were synthesized from homogeneous solution of MgCl2 and AlCl3 by urea induced co-precipitation method. A pharmaceutically important drug, cephradine was intercalated with synthesized LDH in alkali media (pH 10) by in-situ technique. Characterizations of the products were carried out using Attenuated Total Reflectance Infra-red (ATR-IR), Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy. Scanning electron morphological images envisaged a distinct crystalline and amorphous phases of Mg-Al LDH before and after modification with cephradine. Intercalation of bioactive molecules with LDH would enhance their stability providing sustained release behavior in physiological environment.","PeriodicalId":14453,"journal":{"name":"International Letters of Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy","volume":"55 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82164088","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

DR extract inhibited mild steel corrosion in both acidic environments via adsorption of the extract organic matter on the metal/solution interface. Potentiodynamic polarization results indicate that DR is a mixed type inhibitor in both acidic environments, whereas the impedance results revealed adsorption of the DR species on a corroding steel surface. Increase in inhibition efficiency was concentration dependent. The adsorption followed Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results revealed the formation of a protective layer adsorbed on a mild steel surface in the acid solutions.","PeriodicalId":14453,"journal":{"name":"International Letters of Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy","volume":"15 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88278579","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Polymerisation in liquid crystal produces polymers showing fingerprint structure through transcription of molecular aggregation in the polymerisation process. Surface structures of the polymers were observed with circular polarised differential interference contrast microscopy (C-DIM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The polymerisation reaction proceeds interface between liquid crystal and pyrite surface. The polymers thus prepared in liquid crystal on the pyrite shows fingerprint structure on steps structure of pyrite. Aluminium ion (Al3+) and nitrate ion (NO3-) were employed for adsorption test to improve coal surfaces. The effect of initial concentration, adsorbent dose and pH on dextrin adsorption onto modified coal surface was investigated. Studies concerning the adsorption equilibrium and thermodynamics are presented; the equilibrium data was modelled using Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The adsorption equilibrium data was well explained by Freundlich isotherm. The percentage removal was found to be 93.75% and 90.75% at adsorbent dose of 0.2 g for both aluminium sulphate coal bituminous (ACB) and aluminium sulphate coal lignite (ACL) respectively. There was a rapid increase in adsorption of dextrin from low pH of 2 to about pH of 4 with a plateau region from pH 4 to pH 6. Adsorption capacity of 61.25 mg/g and 55.00 mg/g was achieved at initial concentration of 200 mg/L for ACB and ACL respectively. For a better interpretation, the nature of the adsorption of dextrin on the prepared coal samples was predicted from thermodynamic point of view by estimating the thermodynamic parameters. The determination of basic thermodynamic parameters: enthalpy of adsorption, Gibb’s free energy and entropy of adsorption are important. The negative value of ∆Gad indicates the feasibility and spontaneity of the adsorption process and the magnitude is an indication of the involvement of salt link, electrostatic interaction and hydrophobic bonding in the adsorption.","PeriodicalId":14453,"journal":{"name":"International Letters of Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy","volume":"36 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79966254","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
