Extracting information from such data is challenging and time demanding. Important tasks, in this context, are to identify occurrences of acoustic events of interest and find out which combination of audio features are suitable for characterizing specific events or describing a particular soundscape. Researchers in soundscape ecology have been investigating approaches to accomplish such tasks effectively, and there is a demand for tools capable of assisting analysts in investigating large databases of ecological recordings. In this paper we describe a visualization framework for this purpose. The system includes multiple functionalities for soundscape analysis, comprising audio feature extraction, identification of relevant acoustic events by means of visualizations associated with audio playbacks, and event characterization by means of subspace feature analysis, also assisted by visualizations. The system implements a user-driven iterative pipeline that gives domain experts means to search for, identify and characterize acoustic events, gathering insight on which features better describe them and their originating soundscape.","PeriodicalId":144087,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Information Visualisation","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123809757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this, strategies are used such as for the reader to make decisions about which is the next chapter to read or how the story told at a certain point in the book should continue. In this article we present a software tool oriented to the edition of digital books that implements diverse functionalities to insert elements of interactive fiction following the stretchtext hypertext paradigm.","PeriodicalId":144087,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Information Visualisation","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125892478","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A spatio-temporal event is described by a geographic location, a time instant and other characterising attributes.The cartographic visualisation of spatio-temporal events remains unresolved, due to the challenges related with portraying multiple dimensions simultaneously: the spatial, the temporal and the semantic (zero or more dimensions) phenomenon's components. In this context, this article presents the Attenuation and Accumulation Maps (AA-Maps). The main idea of this visualisation analytic approach consists in showing in a map, the resulting effect of combining attenuation and accumulation, from a temporal reference of observation, given a spatio-temporal Level of Detail (LoD). Imagine the footprints of people crossing a garden in various directions. They leave different traces that summarize the cumulative effect of the footprints on the grass, which is attenuated as time goes by.AA-Maps support different combinations of attenuation and accumulation functions. In addition, this method also enables analysis with different Levels of Detail (LoD), both spatial and temporal. This allows distinct analytic perspectives of the phenomenon while promoting the search for the most suitable parametrization for its characteristics.\"","PeriodicalId":144087,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Information Visualisation","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125898389","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many of these solutions, if not most, are standalone applications with technological contributions which cannot be easily taken for: reuse in other domains, further improvement, benchmarking, or integration and deployment alongside other solutions. The latter can prove specially helpful for exploratory data analysis. This often leads researchers to re-implement solutions and thus to a suboptimal use of skills and resources. This paper discusses further the lack of off-the-shelf libraries for Visual Analytics, and proposes the creation of pluggable libraries on top of existing technologies such as Spark and Zeppelin. We provide an illustrative example of a pluggable, Visual Analytics library using these technologies.","PeriodicalId":144087,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Information Visualisation","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126236000","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Considering the cost-efficiency of construction and maintenance, the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is an effective approach for train localization systems which aim to replace the track-side Balises with on-board sensors. Thus, the accumulative error of the odometer is calibrated by the GNSS receivers and the autonomy of the on-board equipment is surely improved. In order to cope with the uncertainties in raw sensor measurements, the Bayesian filtering frame is adopted to obtain an accurate estimation of the train's state. Based on that, an enhanced particle filter solution is presented to realize iterative estimation. In this method, the cubature Kalman filter (CKF) is involved to generate the proposal distribution by using the track constraint, which indicates a modified kinematical model and an extended measurement model. The coupling of track constraint is designed to generate the importance proposal distribution for the update stage of the sequential importance sampling. Results from simulation with field data demonstrate the capability of the track-constrained particle filter for train localization using GNSS and odometer, which is with great potential for enabling the next generation GNSS-based railway systems.","PeriodicalId":144087,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Information Visualisation","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129765440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each platform offers specific features to provide further data understanding, and a system that integrates these platforms in a complementary manner is a real challenge. In this paper, we present an immersive and interactive visualization system that aims to explore data from relational databases using 3D graphs representations, where multiple simultaneous users can visualize and interact with the data through a multi-projection system and mobile devices. A single visualization application was created for both platforms using the Unity game engine, and an Unity external package for Virtual Reality applications development, that supports multi-projection system over a PC cluster and passive stereoscopy. Our visualization system aims to provide the users a better data understanding using a 3-screens multi-projection system as data overview, and mobile devices as display and interaction device for navigation and additional information visualization. We also introduce an user case, where the visualization system is used in order to support developers regarding structural problems in a large relational database.","PeriodicalId":144087,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Information Visualisation","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129332619","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From a simple monocular system, whilst the classifier system leads the robot for topological localization tasks, the neural network is applied as a short-term visual memory for internal representation of the environment.
