Good forecasting models can increase effectiveness of producers and buyers playing roles in electricity market. Price is also a very important element in investment planning process. This paper presents a forecasting technique to model day-ahead spot price using well known ARIMA model to analyze and forecast time series. The model is applied to time series consisting of day-ahead electricity prices from EPEX power exchange.","PeriodicalId":143375,"journal":{"name":"2011 8th International Conference on the European Energy Market (EEM)","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133349085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the increasing installed wind generation capacities may hamper the commercial net transfer capacities made available between countries. Through a statistical analysis using generalized additive models (GAM) on data from March 2008 to June 2010, this paper looks at the impact of the day-ahead hourly forecasts of German wind generation on the day-ahead net transfer capacities (NTCs) from Germany to France. Results are five-fold. First, the analysis shows that wind generation forecasts have a significant impact on the NTC, by explaining around 14% of the deviance. Second, this effect is negative: more the wind blows, less NTC are available. Third, German wind generation areas have different impacts. The paper shows that 50Hz and Amprion have the greatest influence. Fourth, the German consumption forecast impacts the NTC, but to a lower extent than wind generation forecasts, while the French consumption exhibits no significant effect. Last, the modeling is still incomplete and several improvements are proposed.","PeriodicalId":143375,"journal":{"name":"2011 8th International Conference on the European Energy Market (EEM)","volume":"196 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114954153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The dispositions of such agreements are preliminary in resolving this tension and, therefore, in orienting the development of electricity market's restructuring towards a competitive direction. The paper reviews a contractual model, highlighting the tension between the two opposite directions: reducing uncertainty and risk in order to attract private investment, and operating the power system efficiently and building a competitive market in Kosovo. The competitive contracting can increase efficiency pressures and, at the same time, increase the investment risk. The influence of a long term power purchase agreements, as an investment tool for generation investments, have been analyzed in the context of current and future development of Kosovo electricity market.","PeriodicalId":143375,"journal":{"name":"2011 8th International Conference on the European Energy Market (EEM)","volume":"28 12","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113937213","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Current key technology for ICES are microgrids, capable of delivering sustainable electricity, heat and cold to small communities and of working in grid-connected or islanded mode, thus adding technical, economic, environmental and social benefits to the applied population environment. Due to the abovementioned reasons, one of the current leading topics on microgrid studies is the appropriate optimization modeling for the vital purposes of designing and analyzing these systems. Additionally the consideration of full broad spectrum of Sustainability is one of the challenges in microgrid planning. An overview of the current work in Portugal and in the USA on the sustainability-sound technology choice and operation planning of integrated community-scale microgrids is done in this paper. Case-study in the Azores Archipelago is on the extent of a research project of the MIT Portugal Program, within the Green Islands flagship Project framework. Topics explored comprise objective function algorithm description, structure of the economic-environmental optimization model, case-study inputs description namely, technology database, data collection and analysis and economic environment, model general functioning explanation, scenario evaluation, interactions with battery storage and results analysis for assessment of economic and environmental cost considerations of microgrid introduction in the case-study project.","PeriodicalId":143375,"journal":{"name":"2011 8th International Conference on the European Energy Market (EEM)","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124747591","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Equilibrium models using a Conjectural Variation (CV) approach to optimize the participants' behaviors in oligopolistic and oligopsonistic market frameworks have been represented. CV will provide the constituents of an electricity market with an expectation of how their rivals will react to their behavior changes. This paper reviews the bilateral electricity market structure, such as the UK electricity market (BETTA), analyses the conjectural equilibrium formula for both generation side and demand side markets. The paper shows how the generators and suppliers can self-dispatch and manage their contracts to meet demand in a double-sided market to reach equilibrium using a hierarchical optimization method.","PeriodicalId":143375,"journal":{"name":"2011 8th International Conference on the European Energy Market (EEM)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125098213","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Croatian Electric Utility (HEP) Renewable Energy Sources with partner C.E.M.P. is developing wind farm in the region near town Knin. Wind farm will have installed capacity of 100 MW in the first phase. In the second phase additional 40 MW is planned to be installed. For the purpose of this paper, it was assumed that wind farm consist of the 50 turbine units, 2 MW each. Reliability assessment was performed, and reliability indices were computed for the case before and after construction of the wind farm. The reliability is analyzed using state enumeration method and NEPLAN software. Input data were obtained from annual reports of HEP TSO (Transmission System Operator) and statistic analysis of data was performed first. Since there are no statistical data for new cables and transformer stations that are constructed, input data for them were taken from the relevant literature. Probability of wind farm production level is taken from measured wind statistics. In reliability assessment Markov state space model of the wind generator, busbars, transformers, breakers and disconectors was used. Load is modeled at the output substation busbars with maximum active and reactive power. The simulations are performed in order to calculate reliability indices before and after the construction of wind farm. Conclusions and comments on the results are presented at the end of the paper.","PeriodicalId":143375,"journal":{"name":"2011 8th International Conference on the European Energy Market (EEM)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122284356","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to deliver electric energy reliably and efficiently to end-users, smart system has to monitor and control demand appropriately. This can be done through the use of smart meters. However, for long there has been no unique and generally accepted protocol for delivery and interpretation of meter data, what has generated many problems and difficulties for both AMI system developers and utility distributors. DLMS/COSEM is widely accepted standard-based language for meter communication, whose main goal is interoperability among metering equipment. Although it is a well-defined protocol, integrating it into a meter sets new challenges in front of a developer like resources management and compatibility with current HW and SW platform.","PeriodicalId":143375,"journal":{"name":"2011 8th International Conference on the European Energy Market (EEM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130282456","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
